THE HEIRESS VOW - Chapter 35
Chapter 35: The Greater Threat
Ava’s estate, once a haven of serenity, now buzzed with tension. The grand study, with its mahogany shelves lined with ancient tomes and strategic maps, had become the war room. Ava stood at the head of the massive table, her eyes scanning the faces of her trusted allies. Each carried the weight of the recent turmoil, the bruises of battle still fresh on their minds.
“We can’t afford any mistakes,” Ava said, her voice steady yet laden with underlying fear. “Liam’s life depends on this, but so does the future of our legacy.”
Ethan, her loyal confidant, leaned forward, his brows knitted in concern. “Ava, we’ve strengthened our defenses, but this new threat… it’s like nothing we’ve faced before. They know our weaknesses.”
Ava clenched her fists, the frustration bubbling beneath her calm exterior. “And that’s exactly why we must outsmart them. They might know our vulnerabilities, but they don’t know our resolve.”
The room fell silent as Ava’s words sank in. Her determination was a beacon, guiding them through the darkness. She turned to the large map pinned on the wall, marked with red circles indicating recent attacks.
“These are not random,” she continued, pointing to the clusters. “They’re strategic, aimed at our critical points. Whoever is behind this has a deep understanding of our operations.”
Sophia, the tech genius, typed furiously on her laptop, her eyes narrowing as new data streamed in. “I’ve traced some of the attacks back to a competitor. They’ve been discreet, covering their tracks, but there are traces… enough to connect the dots.”
Ava’s heart raced. “Who are we dealing with?”
Sophia took a deep breath. “It’s Orion Enterprises. They’ve been silently acquiring our smaller partners, gaining control from within. They’re exploiting our vulnerabilities, planning a hostile takeover.”
The revelation hit like a punch to the gut. Orion Enterprises was a name that commanded power and fear in equal measure. Ava’s mind raced, piecing together the implications.
“Orion’s CEO, Marcus Thorne, he’s ruthless,” Ethan muttered, shaking his head. “He won’t stop until he has everything.”
Ava’s eyes blazed with a mixture of fear and defiance. “Then we’ll give him nothing. We protect what’s ours, and we fight back.”
Suddenly, the door burst open, and a breathless messenger stumbled in, clutching a sealed envelope. “Miss Ava, this just arrived. It’s urgent.”
Ava took the envelope, her fingers trembling slightly. She tore it open, revealing a single photograph and a note. The photograph showed Liam, tied and bruised, a grim expression on his face. The note was brief: “You have 48 hours. Surrender or lose everything.”
Her vision blurred as tears threatened to spill. She quickly composed herself, holding the photograph tightly. “They’re using Liam to force my hand. They want me to surrender the estate, the business… everything.”
Ethan stood, his face hardening. “We won’t let that happen. We need a plan, Ava.”
She nodded, her resolve steeling. “We’ll need to act swiftly and decisively. We can’t let them think they have the upper hand.”
The next few hours were a whirlwind of strategy and preparation. Ava delegated tasks with precision, her mind a flurry of contingency plans and countermeasures. Every move was calculated, every decision weighed against the potential risks.
As night fell, the estate was shrouded in an uneasy calm. Ava found herself alone in the study, the weight of the day pressing down on her. She stared at Liam’s photograph, her heart aching with the fear of losing him.
A soft knock interrupted her thoughts. It was Sophia, her eyes tired but determined. “Ava, I found something. In the last data stream, there was an encrypted file. It took a while, but I managed to crack it.”
Ava’s pulse quickened. “What did you find?”
Sophia handed her a dossier, the pages filled with detailed reports and incriminating information about Marcus Thorne and Orion Enterprises. “This dossier… it reveals everything. Illegal dealings, coercion, even ties to organized crime. If we can use this, we might be able to turn the tide.”
Ava’s eyes scanned the pages, each revelation a dagger in the heart of their enemy. “This… this could be our chance.”
Sophia nodded. “But we need to be careful. If Thorne finds out we have this, he’ll come at us with everything he has.”
Ava’s mind raced, the stakes higher than ever. She knew they had to act quickly, but the path ahead was fraught with danger. She placed the dossier on the table, her decision made.
“We’ll use this, but not recklessly. We need to plan our next move carefully. The safety of everyone here depends on it.”
Sophia placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “We’ll get through this, Ava. Together.”
As the night deepened, Ava remained in the study, the dossier a constant reminder of the battle ahead. She felt a mixture of hope and dread, knowing that the coming days would test them like never before.
Just as she began to formulate their next steps, a shadow moved outside the window. Ava’s heart skipped a beat. She reached for the hidden compartment in her desk, pulling out a small, sleek pistol.
“Who’s there?” she called out, her voice firm.

The figure stepped into the light, revealing a face she recognized all too well. It was Marcus Thorne himself, a sinister smile playing on his lips.
“Good evening, Ava,” he said, his voice dripping with malice. “I see you’ve found my little gift.”
Ava’s grip tightened on the pistol. “What do you want, Thorne?”
He chuckled, a sound that sent chills down her spine. “I want what’s rightfully mine. And I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get it.”
Ava’s eyes narrowed. “You won’t win, Thorne. We have the dossier. We know everything.”
Thorne’s smile faltered for a moment, but then he regained his composure. “Then it seems we’re at an impasse. But let me make one thing clear, Ava. This is far from over.”
