THE HEIRESS VOW - Chapter 39
Chapter 39: The War Room
The dimly lit war room buzzed with tension as Ava stood at the head of a long table, maps and documents spread before her. Her eyes, sharp and unwavering, scanned the faces of her allies. Liam stood beside her, his presence a pillar of support.
“Alright, everyone, listen up,” Ava began, her voice cutting through the murmurs. “We’ve defended our estate, but this is far from over. Our competitor thinks they can crush us. They’re wrong.”
She pointed to a large map of their territory. “We need to hit them where it hurts. Our first target is their supply routes. Without resources, their forces will crumble.”
“How do we know which routes to target?” Malcolm, a seasoned strategist, asked.
Liam stepped forward, his confidence evident. “We’ve intercepted some of their communications. They’re heavily relying on the eastern pass and the river route. We set traps there, we cripple their supply chain.”
Ava nodded. “Exactly. But we can’t just rely on traps. We need to gather intel and resources. Amelia, you’ll lead a reconnaissance team. Find out their exact movements.”
Amelia, a sharp-eyed scout, gave a firm nod. “Consider it done.”
“Good. Now, about the traps,” Ava continued, glancing at Liam. “We need something that will cause maximum disruption with minimal risk to our people.”
Liam’s eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief. “I’ve been working on something. It’s a bit unconventional, but it’ll do the trick. We use smoke bombs and flash grenades. Cause chaos, confuse their ranks, and then we hit them hard.”
Ava’s lips curved into a small smile. “I like it. Let’s make it happen.”
As the meeting progressed, the camaraderie and trust between Ava and Liam became increasingly evident. They moved in sync, anticipating each other’s thoughts and actions. It was clear to everyone in the room: their bond was forged in the fire of shared struggle.
Hours passed, and the plan solidified. Everyone knew their role, their purpose. The war room became a hive of activity, each member focused on their tasks.
Later, as the room emptied, Ava and Liam lingered. The weight of the situation pressed heavily on their shoulders, but they found solace in each other’s presence.
“Are you alright?” Liam asked softly, his hand brushing against Ava’s.
She sighed, her tough exterior momentarily slipping. “It’s just… a lot. But we’ll get through this. Together.”
Liam’s grip tightened, a silent promise of unwavering support. “We will.”
Just as Ava was about to respond, a messenger burst into the room, out of breath and clutching a sealed envelope.
“Lady Ava, this just arrived. It’s from the competitor.”
Ava took the envelope, her brow furrowing as she broke the seal. She read the message quickly, her expression darkening with each word.
“What is it?” Liam asked, concern etching his features.
Ava handed him the letter, her jaw clenched. “They’re offering a truce.”
Liam read the message aloud. “To Lady Ava, in light of recent events, we propose a truce. Let us discuss terms and avoid further bloodshed. Signed, your competitor.”
He looked up, disbelief in his eyes. “This has to be a trap.”
Ava nodded slowly. “It’s too convenient. They’re up to something.”
“But what if they’re serious? What if this is a chance to end things without more loss?” Liam’s voice held a flicker of hope.
Ava’s gaze hardened. “We can’t afford to be naive, Liam. We need to be prepared for anything.”
The room fell silent as they pondered their next move. The weight of the decision loomed over them, each option fraught with peril.
Finally, Ava straightened, determination burning in her eyes. “We’ll meet with them, but on our terms. We’ll set the location and ensure we have the upper hand.”
Liam nodded. “Agreed. We’ll be ready for whatever they throw at us.”
