Chapter 101: [101 – The Question: Why?]
Stepping out of the shower stall, Seraphina went to stand in front of the wash basin and stared at her reflection in the mirror while toweling her body dry. Slowly, a smirk curled upon her lips as she thought about the sudden opportunity that she had created for herself.
She really had not planned on asking Elijah to marry her. It was only because of the dream that she saw and her own conflicting thoughts regarding Elijah that she ended up asking him if he would marry her.
Seeing how serious his face had turned and how panicked he looked, she had tried lighten the mood by lying to him that this was her way to distract herself. But who knew that her lie would work this way. She had an idea that Elijah had deep and very genuine feelings for her but she did not know the truth depth of his feelings.
He took her by surprise when he confessed to her and Seraphina, who had started feeling for him could not help but make a confession as well. She wanted him, kind of needed him in her life to provide the love, comfort, and stability that she yearns for.
It isn’t that she doesn’t have people whom she can still trust, people who truly love and care for her, they are even helping her in taking revenge. But she could not be with them freely. It is not possible for her to openly care for her loved ones for they all are undercover and working towards one single purpose.
Revenge.
But everybody needs a person like Elijah in their lives. The devil too needs some love after all. And now that Seraphina had one, she was not letting him go that easily.
In her dream world, they all were happy, her family was still alive, Elijah was with her too and he had proposed to her. Seraphina knew that dream could not be true, not all of it to be precise but she could still have Elijah.
She would have him till she could, till she fulfils her dream of taking revenge and bringing justice to her families, till her truth comes out in front of Elijah. She was being selfish, she knows and it was a little bit risky for their plans as well. Any emotion with an extreme range is always troublesome for carefully plotted plans and the liking, adoration, and compassion that she had for Elijah might also create some troubles for them in future.
But Seraphina decided to follow the come what may policy and simply solve the issue when it rises instead of hiding away like a coward. She was not that kind of a person.
Also, getting married to Elijah came with its own list of benefits. As his wife, she would be able to stay with him without any questions asked and keep him safe from his past enemies like Blake. Considering how naive and innocent her to be husband can be, and how he had not figured out about his family even after so many years, she wondered if he had any other hidden enemy like Blake, somewhere out in the world.
Secondly, being his wife and being a part of Grayson family would provide her with more opportunities to toy with not only the Grayson’s but enjoy troubling the Sullivan’s and Thompson’s as well.
Third, staying at the Grayson mansion would give her the opportunity to stage better revelations and enjoy them directly, like by actually being there and watch her enemies crumble and destroy themselves with their own lies and crimes.
It was a win and only win situation for her and that way, she would be able to make some of her plans a little more convincing, especially the ones that she had in mind regarding Ethan.
Throwing the towel away, Seraphina chose to apply the shimmer body butter that she had recently bought and applied a generous amount of it all over her body. It not only soothed her skin but also added a subtle shimmer to it.
She wore her undergarments and then a bathrobe over it before stepping out of the washroom. She had the perfect dress available for today’s special event. It was not exactly a wedding dress but it gave a similar feel to it.
Picking up her cell phone, Seraphina gave a call to Gina and told her to arrange for that dress to be delivered at her place. After ending the call, she had just placed her cell phone back on the table and was about to blow dry her hair but stopped when her cell phone began ringing.
Seeing Madison’s name flashing across her screen, Seraphina frowned at first but then her eyes widened realizing that she had taken such an important decision of her life and had not even informed Madison or Asher.
“Hello.” Seraphina felt nervous, just like Madison had once felt years ago when Chris had taken her to visit his family, “Hi, Maddy, what’s up?!” she did not know what to say.
“You are getting married?” the cell phone almost slipped out of Seraphina’s hold when she heard Madison yell at her. She felt a little scared because over the years Madison had become an over protective, elder sister of hers who was no less than a strict mother.
“How did you know?” asked Seraphina, smiling sheepishly as she scratched the back of her neck.
“That is not the -” Madison stopped mid sentence and did not speak for a few seconds before she added, “Asher is requesting for a conference call. I am adding him, wait.”
Seraphina’s eyes widened like big saucer plates and she stumbled, almost falling down but managed to stabilize her footing and sit down on the bed. Asher was no less than Madison, and his protective streak ran a mile extra than Madison’s.
“What the hell?” was how Asher greeted them, “Is what Maddy told me true, Sera? You are getting married, and not just ‘I got proposed and I have decided to marry’ but actually get married today? Like today, on this date, as in right now?”
“Was my message not clear?” asked Madison before Seraphina could say anything, “I told you that she is getting married, that she has decided to get married to Elijah, today within in the next5 hours as per the appointment that my boss, Elijah Grayson, who also happens to be groom, told me!”
“Your message was clear, Maddy, but that is not the point!” Asher countered, “Sera, what do you think you are doing? I know that this marriage was in on our plans, but today? So early, this was not what we had decided, right?”
Seraphina sighed and opened her mouth to speak but Madison spoke before her, “Why are you not saying anything now? There is no need to stay silent and act like this is not happening because we know it is. Elijah told me, your bloody groom told me to fix an appointment for yours and his marriage. So just tell us the truth, Sera.”
“I would only be able to tell you anything if you would let me speak!” Seraphina yelled making sure that she was not loud enough to alert Elijah. She stood up and went to close the door, locking it so that Elijah would not be able to come unannounced.
“Listen, yes, I am getting married.” Seraphina announced trying her best to keep her voice firm and determined, “Yes, I am getting married to Elijah. It was I whom proposed. Yes, I am well aware that this marriage was not in our timeline for a little while and that we have other plans to focus onto put I thought of changing the plans a little bit. That’s it.”
“Sera,” Asher tried to say something but Seraphina cut him off and said, “Listen, I know that you both are doubtful of what I am doing but this is best idea I have had, trust me. This way I will be able to -”

This time Asher was the one who interrupted her, cutting her mid sentence and said, “We know what this plan will enable, that is why we all agreed on this at the first hand. But Sera, did you not want to draw out their sufferings for a long time before you smack them down for ultimate destruction?”
“Was it not you who said that we need to take things slow at the start because you wanted to watch them all live in the fear of what is going to happen next and not be able to rest in peace wondering that a new problem would arise from somewhere at any point?” pointed out Madison silencing Seraphina.
“I -” Seraphina had no words to justify her decision. She had a list of how marrying Elijah would help them but did not think of the answer to the question ‘Why so soon?’
“Why did you rush up the timeline, Sera? Now, do not tell me that you have lost interest in toying with them because I know that you have not. I know that you have not strayed from your path, that you still want revenge and would always want that. But my question is, why so soon?” asked Asher.
“Are you in love with Elijah? Is this why you want to finish up things rather quickly?” asked Madison and Seraphina had no answer to any of those questions.
