Chapter 102: [102 – Confusions and Resolves]
“Why did you rush up the timeline, Sera? Now, do not tell me that you have lost interest in toying with them because I know that you have not. I know that you have not strayed from your path, that you still want revenge and would always want that. But my question is, why so soon?”
“Are you in love with Elijah? Is this why you want to finish up things rather quickly?”
Both the questions kept on swirling inside her mind, repeating like a sacred mantra. Even though her conference call with Asher and Madison ended 15 minutes ago, without coming to any conclusion, without getting a response from Seraphina, she could not let it go.
She knew that by preponing her plans, she was only making sure that she gets her revenge faster and be able to enjoy it from the front seat. But the questions that she was trying to avoid, that she was trying to pretend that they do not even exist in first place, those questions made it unable for her to think about anything else.
After her conference call with Asher and Madison ended rather abruptly, Seraphina could not help but sit there silently for a few minutes pondering about the answers to the questions that they asked her.
Did she have feelings for Elijah? Yes, of course, and she had accepted that as well. She liked him, and he was a good guy. Any person who does not like him is a fool.
But, did she love him?
Seraphina did not know if she capable to loving someone that way. She had too many wounds and many of them were given to her by her soon to be father-in-law. Marcus did not only murder her whole family with the help of his friends and accomplices but he also destroyed her life and the lives of many others.
You fall in love with a person with whom you think you can a future with, with whom you plan to spend the rest of your life with. The happily ever after, right?
But that was not going to happen with Seraphina and Elijah. There case was happy for a while only, and not a happily ever after one. They were just a temporary couple, where one loved the other deeply but was going to face the most hurtful betrayal later and be heartbroken, while the other one, the who is going to betray, is just their for her own selfish purposes.
This is not love, right?
Love can never be selfish.
And then there was the third question, was she doing this for Elijah?
Seraphina did not have the right answer for this question as well. Yes, her decision of getting married to him will enable her to protect him more closely but she surely did not rush up her plans just for Elijah’s sake.
It just was not possible that she made the decision to not draw out the sufferings of her enemy just for the sake of her enemy’s son. That is totally ridiculous and absurd, nobody would believe it. Even Seraphina was having a hard time believing that she would go this far for Elijah.
No, that was for her. That was for her mission.
She just wanted to bring justice to her family and put an end to this game. So many years have passed and now, she was beginning to lose patience. Her never ending nightmares, her own suffering, and the desire to get back everything that belongs to her was prominent and of greater priority than anybody.
Even Elijah was not that dear to her that she would do something like that for him. Right? Yes, right.
Seraphina shook her head as if by doing that she would able to get rid of the thoughts and questions that were troubling her. She stood up and went to stand in front of the vanity mirror and plugged in the blow dryer.
She put all her focus on blow drying her hair but was distracted by a knock at her door, “Hey, there, my wife to be! Will you please open the door for me?”
The sweet voice of Elijah distracted her from her focus and caused her heart to flutter, skipping a beat in the process. The change of expression on her face was instant and no, she was not pretending.
The smile that curved upon her lips, the twinkle that entered her eyes, and the face her face just brightened up hearing his wife and hearing him call her his wife to be, that was all genuine.
Seraphina went to open the door but just as her hand went around the door knob, she stopped. “Sera, you in there?” Elijah asked on getting no response from Seraphina.
“What do you need?” asked Seraphina, the smile on her face intact.
She heard him sigh before he said, “I just wanted to see my beautiful bride before leaving to fetch a nice suit to get married in and also gather my identification proofs that are right now sitting in the drawer of a cabinet in my closet back home.”
“Tsk, tsk” Seraphina tsked and leaned against the door, talking a little louder than usual, “Do you not know about the tradition that you cannot see you wife before the wedding?”
“I thought it was about the dress.” Elijah commented back with a chuckle.
“Well, my wedding, my rules. So, you would not even get a sneak peak at this beautiful bride before she gets dressed up like a bride and meets you at the altar or in our case, at the registrar office.” responded Seraphina. She covered her mouth with her hand to muffle her giggles.
“That’s not fair.” claimed Elijah and Seraphina was about to reply to him with that age old saying ‘Everything is fair in love and war’ but she stopped before the words came out of her mouth.
Love?

War, she knew. War, it was. But love? That word was not in her dictionary, not for someone else other than her family at least. Then from where did these feelings come? Were Asher and Madison right in believing that she has fallen in love with Elijah.
That couldn’t be right. Not when she knows that there is no destination for this relationship and that it is bound to end in misery and leave Elijah heartbroken and perhaps make him unable to trust and love someone in his life again.
Suddenly, Seraphina felt a lot gloomier. She could not help but worry about the repercussions of her decision. She knew that she was not doing the right thing with Elijah, she knew that she was going to hurt the only person who loved her truly and with such depth that is unmeasurable.
Even the fact that he is her enemy’s son did not stop her from having feelings for him and that too in such a short period of time. How was she going to spend the next days of her life, the next weeks and probably months of her life, living with him, while destroying his family and all the illusions that they have created, and just not feel bad for this man.
Would she be even able to make the right decisions and keep working for her revenge. She worried that her resolve to end the Grayson, Sullivan, and Thompson families would not be able to stand high and tall, still and powerful against the feelings that she was beginning to have for Elijah.
What was this? Why was this happening to her. Is this what Asher had always been afraid of?
Love?
Was she falling in love with Elijah, or had she already fallen?
Seraphina’s breathing grew shallow as more and more questions registered their presence in her mind creating doubts within her that this was perhaps not he right decision to make. That she had taken one of the worst decisions in her life and this would only end up creating more troubles for her instead of solving any of her issues.
Seraphina gulped hard and almost slid down on the floor, feeling weak in her knees but then came Elijah’s voice, cutting through the haze that had surrounded her momentarily, “Hey, baby! Are you okay? What happened? Why are you not saying anything?”
Hearing the worry and concern in his voice, Seraphina felt the fog surrounding her disappear, the questions in her mind to vanish, and her heart to melt at the thought that now she had someone who loved and cared for her openly and without any care in the world.
He was marrying her. She was getting married to Elijah Grayson.
He loved her. She was going to protect him as much as she could and take her revenge while trying to help him through this heartbreak.
He was her dream, the one that was impossible to attain. She was his reality, that he would have to face one day or the other.
They might not be a match and their marriage might not last long but Seraphina was going to cherish it and steal these moments for herself by going against the logics of her brain. She did not know if she loved him, or if she was falling for him. But she knew one thing, that she wanted both.
Her revenge, and her Elijah.
They were hers.
And she was theirs.
