Chapter 103: [103 – The Light In Her Dark World]
“Hey, baby! Are you okay? What happened? Why are you not saying anything? Sera, are you alright?” Elijah’s concerned voice snapped her out of her thoughts and Seraphina quickly recovered and responded.
“I am absolutely fine, there is nothing to be worried about.” she giggled, acted like she was doing it on purpose, “I was just troubling my husband to be.” she smiled and added, “But no matter what you say, I am not opening the door right now. You will only get to see me directly at the marriage registrar’s office.”
Elijah sighed, relieved that there was nothing wrong with Seraphina and that she was only teasing him. A serene and sweet smile curved upon his lips as he leaned against the door to Seraphina’s room and said, “Fine, I will wait for you.”
Seraphina’s heart fluttered and she suddenly started feeling warm and fuzzy. This was the first time that she had been been feeling so peaceful and so warm at heart that she could not say anything. She just wanted to revel in that feeling that had been unknow to her before Elijah entered her life.
He was her Eli.
A really good guy, a gentleman who was not tainted by his family’s malicious intents and sins. He was a pure soul and now he was going to be hers.
“I will wait for you too.” she found herself speaking without thinking about it. Her eyes widened and hand raised to cover her mouth as she realized what she had said. The words though were not a part of a great confession or hinted at anything like that but they were so genuine in kind and straight from her heart.
Elijah chuckled softly at her response, though it was not something unexpected, Seraphina always had the cutest and most romantic words to say to him but it still felt so good that he could not describe.
His voice warm and affectionate when he said, “Then we’ll wait together.” he spoke in a gentle tone, his tone filled with the kind of tender promise that made Seraphina’s heart skip a beat.
She could almost picture his smile on the other side of the door, and for a brief moment, she allowed herself to imagine a life with him. It might be an unattainable dream for her but there was no harm in imagining a better life for oneself.
She could picture both of them living a life free from the shadows of her past, from the shadows of his family’s sins and crimes. Living at a place where they would be only the two of them, far away from anybody they know, friend or foe. Somewhere where her heart could heal and learn to love again.
Somewhere where they could have a family of their own and grown old together. But the image was fleeting, quickly replaced by the grim reminder of why she was there in the first place.
Seraphina stepped closer to the door, pressing her back against it as she tried to steady her breathing. Her emotions were betraying her, pulling her in two different directions. She now realized why Asher was always against her idea of using Elijah in this game, against her plan of making the eldest Grayson fall in love with her and then manipulate him in doing her bidding.
Ever since she had gotten to know about Elijah being completely innocent and since Asher conveyed to her that Blake had confessed that he was the one to trap Elijah in every case and all of them being nothing but a false claim, Seraphina had felt so guilty that in her guilt she crossed the boundaries that she would not have otherwise and shouldn’t have given their circumstances.
She allowed him to come too close to her, let him close to the boundary walls that she had built around her heart. Hs every action, every reaction, and every word that he said was like a sledgehammer hitting those walls, breaking them brick by brick.
Somehow, she does not know when and how, but Elijah had become an unexpected balm to her wounded soul. Seraphina did not know when it started but he started healing her wounds that he did not even give her.
But she could not afford to lose sight of her mission. No matter how much dear Elijah had become to her, no matter how much intense and protective feelings she has towards him, she would not family and stray from her path. The stakes were too high, and the people who had destroyed her life were still out there, unsuspecting, living their lives without a care in the world.
Though Elijah was the only light in the darkness that she had surrounded herself with, he was still not as important as her revenge. The destruction of those three enemies of hers was her number one priority, closely tied with it is the safety of the ones she was now responsible for and the ones that are her family.
Her second priority lies with those whom she had promised vengeance, those who also faced destruction at the hands of these three criminal and sinful families.
Elijah, ranked third on her priority list. He was important to her and the thought of using him, of deceiving him as part of her plan, made her feel more conflicted than she ever imagined. Yet, there was no turning back now. What’s done is done, and she would not take a step back from this.
This was her final choice, she made this choice after thinking about everything. She knows that Elijah would hate her and it’s alright, she would let him hate her. let him destroy her if he wanted but only after she destroys the illusion that his family and his so called family friend have created around him.
She would destroy them all before giving Elijah a chance to do the same. He had all the right to hurt her, kill her, destroy her and she would let him do it as a way of apologizing to him. After all, no mater how bad the people around him are, they are still his family.
And though Marcus is not a good man, in fact he is a demon straight from the depths of hell, he loves his family, he loves Elijah and she was going to snatch that from him. That is why she decided to let Elijah do whatever he wanted to do after her truth would be out.
She could at least let him do that in return of being the light in her dark world, for being her hope and healing her, soothing her.
Seraphina felt at peace after making this final choice. She no longer felt the troublesome questions bother her. “Hey!” she said, resting her cheek against the door to which Elijah responded with a soft, “Hi!”
Closing her eyes she smiled. The silence stretched between them, comfortable yet charged with unspoken words. Seraphina let herself bask in the warmth of this feeling that Elijah always evoked inside her. He was her light, he was her courage, he was hers and she promised to be his till the time he would have her.
She vowed to herself that she would not let any harm come to this man and keep him safe. She promised herself that in her way to realize her aim she would stay by his side comforting him at every step. She would let him see the truth and help him recover.
She would hold his hand and break all the illusions that surrounded him, piece by piece. She would make him see the reality while he will always be her dream. Only a dream.
“I will see you soon.” Elijah said softly, this time his tone had a finality to it, “.I love you, Sera. And I promise to love you for our entire lives. There would be never an end to the love that I have for you. I promise you that I would be yours and only yours. But also, you can only be mine.” he chuckled and his words were gentle, but they were almost like a vow, and they hung in the air long after he had walked away.
As the sound of his footsteps faded, Seraphina leaned her head back against the door and slid down on the floor. Pulling her legs up to her chest, she hugged them and rested her head on her knees, her resolve unwavering. The warmth Elijah brought into her life was undeniable, it was a warmth that she was going to truly and fully embrace.
