Chapter 106: [106 – Husband & Wife]
After grabbing their marriage certificated, the official, Mr. and Mrs. Grayson, Elijah Grayson and his wife Seraphina Elijah Grayson, shared a brief, close mouthed kiss in front of the registrar, Marcus, Katherine, Gina, and Jaxon. Seraphina pretended to be shy while Elijah was actually being shy, for this time he was not kissing his girlfriend, but his wife.
The small crowd of friends and family continued to cheer, their joy echoing in the small room. Seraphina held onto Elijah’s hand, her smile unwavering as she led him out of the marriage registrar’s office.
She could feel Gina and Jaxon’s gaze on her, steady and supportive. They trusted her, they knew that what she was doing was only for their ultimate goal and they supported her, slightly conditional because so far she has also helped them in their own personal vengeance. They exchanged a quick glance, and Seraphina knew it was time to move forward with the next part of their plan.
She was officially a Grayson now which marks the end of the Grayson family. The Thompson’s were barely a threat. She knew that Daniel had been planning her demise, but he was not that big of threat. The Sullivans would not be a problem for now, not at least Ethan and Caroline’s wedding which was only a few weeks away.
Seraphina could not hold in her chuckle that escaped at the thought of what she was going to put on display at Caroline and Ethan’s wedding. She was excited to be able to watch every person’s reaction and be a part of the family discussion that will follow. Oh, she was going to enjoy watching it live and in person but she would miss her bucket of popcorn though.
Nevertheless, she was excited of how she was going to toy with each of her enemy using this marriage to be a part of them and destroy them from within like how termites consume woods from the inside out.
Seraphina snapped out of her thoughts when Elijah’s parents, Marcus and Katherine, approached with wide grins, pulling the couple into a warm embrace. “We’re so proud and happy for both of you!” Katherine said, tears glistening in her eyes. “May you have a lifetime of happiness together.”
Seraphina was having a hard time controlling her laughter, she did not know if this was just the excitement over the fact that her enemies were wishing her luck, happiness, and prosperity or was this excitement mixed with a certain level of happiness that she was feeling at getting married to Elijah.
“Thank you,” Elijah responded earnestly, squeezing Seraphina’s hand who also responded with a small, “Thanks” and smiled widely. Elijah watched with fond eyes as how well Seraphina gelled with his parents and that his family accepted her as their own.
Seraphina’s expressions were soft and innocent as she shook hands with Marcus, “Thank you,” she echoed, her voice gentle. “We couldn’t be happier.”
But inside, her thoughts were far from gentle. The time had come for her to put the rest of her carefully laid plans into motion. After talking for a little while, Marcus and Katherine went back, Gina and Jaxon too left leaving Elijah and Seraphina alone.
As it was time for lunch, the newly wedded couple decided to go out for lunch and celebrate. Just the two of them. He did not want to rush her into anything. Especially not after they suddenly and impulsively got married.
Seraphina and Elijah chose a quaint little bistro tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, with soft jazz playing in the background and the scent of freshly baked bread filling the air. As they settled into a secluded booth, Seraphina couldn’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and satisfaction. She had just taken another significant step toward her ultimate goal, and now, she had Elijah all to herself as well.
Oh, how she wished she could keep with her forever. He was a nice influence and such a good person. She wished to protect his innocence and this positivity that runs through his veins like blood. If there was a perfect world, then the only thing that she wanted was to have her revenge, destroy everything and then have Elijah as well.
Could she do things in a way that Elijah would never be able to know that it was her who was his family and family friends’ enemy all along? She continued to contemplate about ways that she could protect her true identity from Elijah as she kept on staring at her husband.
Oh, wow!
Husband!
Elijah, still flushed with the excitement of their wedding turned red like a ripe tomato at being subjected to his wife’s constant stare. He looked back at Seraphina with a soft, affectionate gaze and whispered in a soft voice, “I can’t believe we are married. I did not wake up today knowing that I would become your husband and that too a legal one.” he said, his voice filled with awe. “It feels like a dream, doesn’t it?”
Seraphina chuckled because of the words that Elijah had used. She reached across the table to take his hand. “It does,” she replied, her voice tender. “A beautiful dream.” But as she looked into Elijah’s eyes, she felt a pang of guilt tugging at her conscience. He was so genuinely happy, so oblivious to the storm that was brewing around him. For a brief moment, she wondered if she was doing the right thing.
But then she remembered why she was doing all this in the first place. The Grayson name had caused her and her family, and her allies so much pain, and she had vowed to end their reign of power and deceit. So she had to do this, she had to, there was no other way.
She had to repeatedly tell herself because Elijah’s presence and innocence was creating a havoc in her mind.
Their lunch arrived, breaking her train of thought. Elijah squeezed her hand gently, a loving smile on his face. “To us!” he toasted, raising his glass of sparkling water.
“To us!” she echoed, clinking her glass with his. She took a sip, masking the determination that burned within her with a soft, adoring smile.
As they ate, Elijah kept the conversation light, talking about their future, their plans for a honeymoon, and his hopes for their life together. Seraphina listened, nodding and smiling in all the right places, but her mind was elsewhere. She was already planning her next move, considering how she would use this new position as Elijah’s wife to her advantage.
Though when he talked about their honeymoon, she got a little distracted but masked it up by lowering her gaze and pretending to be shy about it. Though she did not have to put much work on that because when certain, not so decent images flashed behind her eyes, she could not help but feel shy and embarrassed.
Once their meal was over, they decided to take a stroll along the riverbank, enjoying the crisp afternoon air. They did not want to go back home, not yet. It was as if both of them, Elijah mostly, wanted to flaunt his new status as Seraphina’s husband. Elijah slipped his arm around Seraphina’s waist, pulling her close as they walked. “I can’t wait to start our new life together, but before that I think we are missing something.” he changed the sentence mid way as he recalled that both of them forgot about rings.
Seraphina, who was leaning against Elijah, her head resting against his shoulder, frowned and asked, “What?” she tilted her head to look up at him.
Elijah smiled and leaned closer to place a kiss on her forehead, “Our wedding rings.”
Seraphina chuckled, “Oopss!” and burst into giggles.
She allowed herself a moment of calm, unadulterated joy, feeling the warmth of Elijah’s body against hers, the steady beat of his heart. “Let us go get some. I have the perfect wedding bands that have not been released in public yet.”

“You know,” she pulled away and grabbed Elijah’s hand, leading him to the place where they had parked their car, “I designed then on my own with the thought in mind that if I were to get married some day that I would want my husband,” she stopped to place a kiss on Elijah’s hand that was in hers, “and I to wear that. Matching bands, simple, classic, and evergreen.”
Elijah smiled and let Seraphina lead him to wherever she wanted. That is how it was with him, he would follow her anywhere and everywhere. He vowed to himself that he would not leave her alone ever. She had lost her family long ago and now, she had made him her family. So there was no way he was going to leave her side for anything and anyone.
The two of them sat in the car and Elijah drove them to Seraphina’s company as per her command. They entered the company premises looking exactly like how newly weds to, dressed up, with wide smiles, happy, cheerful, and playful.
Her employees were taken in by surprise at seeing the boss acting like this for it was the first time that they were witnessing this joyous Seraphina Vale.
