[29 – Truths, Lies, and Secrets]
Later that evening, in the safe house, Emma watched Elijah play mobile games with Samuel while she was folding the clean laundry. Watching her son alive, breathing was still nothing less than a wonder to her. If Elijah had not saved her four years ago, she would might have survived but she would have certainly lost her son.
Four years ago, she used to work as Elijah’s personal secretary. Everything was fine until she met Blake Anderson.
Blake was Elijah’s business partner and a good friend from university. He was handsome, charming, polite, and very kind in nature. That is why she couldn’t help but fall in love with that man. And from that point only, her downfall began.
Just a few months into their relationship, Blake changed. At first, she didn’t notice and sometimes she just didn’t mind. But then came a time when she could not ignore it so she asked him about it hoping that she might be able to help him.
But she was wrong.
She was so damn wrong!
Blake fed her a bunch of lies. Lies that sounded truer than the truth itself, and she believed them. Lies, which made her accuse Elijah of assaulting her sexually. Lies, which still haunt her.
Because of the blind faith that she had on Blake, Emma did not hesitate to not only accuse Elijah for assaulting her but also sue him. She did not hesitate while repeating that false narrative again and again, and even told more lies to keep herself from getting exposed.
It was months later that she got to know about Blake’s truth and about all that he had done to trap Elijah because if his irrational purpose and reasoning. Emma had tried her best to reason with the man she loved so deeply, tried to make him see the truth and accept that he was wrong.
But instead of accepting his mistakes, Blake became more aggressive and that was the first time that he hit her. Realizing that there was no point in trying to make Blake understand or argue with him, Emma ran away.
She grabbed the first opportunity that came her way, and escaped. Emma had gone straight to the police station to recant her statement and this time she spoke the truth. Their lawyers were called and a private court was convened for the case.
After his testimony, all the accusations against Elijah were proven false, and Elijah was honorably acquitted. But that wasn’t the end, it was the peak point of her troubles.
She hadn’t only testified in favor of Elijah but testified against Blake as well. The judge summoned Blake to court, but perhaps Blake had an inkling that Emma would testify against him, so he had already fled.
Emma’s mind drifted back to that fateful night four years ago. It was a week after Blake had fled and because she was the main witness in the whole case, she was staying in a safe house that was under the protection of police. But that did nothing to stop Blake.

Year 2021
Emma was staying at the safe house that was under the protection of police. It had been a week since Blake had fled and Emma was just starting to adjust to her new life which she had decided to spend with the her baby.
She had found out only two days ago that she was pregnant with hers and Blake’s baby, their first child but the baby will only know its mother. Emma had decided that she didn’t want Blake to a part of her baby’s life.
The night was unnervingly quiet, the kind of silence that seemed to precede a storm. Emme had just laid down on the bed when she heard a sudden noise that shattered the stillness of the night.
Emma had grabbed the baseball bat that she kept beside her bed and rushed to lock her bedroom door but before she could, the door burst open, and Blake came inside.
Emma tried to defend herself, but Blake was too strong, too angry. A flurry of blows rained down on her, each one more brutal than the last. Pain exploded through Emma’s body as she was knocked to the ground, blood spilling from her mouth.
She yelled for help, tried to alert the police officers only to be mocked by Blake. He had bribed some of the policeman guarding her while the others who refused his offer, were taken care of by the corrupt officers.
While trying to keep herself and her baby safe, Emma didn’t realize when but she had ended up calling Elijah who heard her screams through phone and responded immediately.
He called the chief of police and told them about her situation while he himself drove to the safehouse to help her.
She was lying bloodied and beaten on the floor while Black was hovering over her holding the same baseball bat she had tried to use for her protection. Just as he was about to deliver the final blow, the sound of blaring sirens had him stop mid-way.
“Freeze! Stop right there!” a police officer said holding his gun against Blake.
“Drop the bat, Mr. Anderson. Put your hands behind your back.” said the police officer while another one came from behind Blake and was about to put handcuffs on him but Blake used the officer as a hostage and managed to escape.
Relieved that Blake was gone and that he she and her baby were safe, Emme let herself be consumed by the darkness that she was trying to hold back. She was in an out of consciousness while Elijah hastily called for his personal doctor and had him make all the necessary arrangements to convert his penthouse into a private hospital for her.
“Stay with me, Emma” Elijah urged, his voice steady but urgent as they were being driven to the nearest hospital for the emergency treatment.
“Thank you. Thank you.” Emma was continuously repeating till she fell unconscious.

She was wheeled into the emergency room for the treatment while Elijah remained outside discussing hers security issues with the chief of police.
“Sorry to say, but I don’t think I can trust you and your department for keeping Emma safe.” Elijah said aloud, “She is not just the main witness in my case but also a friend, so I am going to take her complete responsibility.”
With great care, Elijah and his trusted associates transported Emma to this secluded, secure and gated location. The safe house was equipped with everything the she needed. Elijah also arranged for several bodyguards and house help for her to make sure that she was taken care of.
He also hired a nurse to stay with her during the months she was pregnant and made all the necessary arrangements for her delivery as well. Emma could not help but feel extremely guilty seeing Elijah help her so much.
She didn’t deserve all this. But Elijah told her otherwise.

It’s been four years since then, and Blake still had not been caught. He was still out there making the outside world dangerous for her and her son.
Though Samuel hadn’t asked her yet, but Emma knew what she was going to tell her son if and when he asked her about his father.
He’s dead.
Though she might not use the exact words and sugarcoat the whole thing by telling Samuel that his father was either a superhero on a very serious mission or that he now lives with the God almighty. But one thing was sure, Emma was not going to let Blake anywhere near her son.
Samuel already has his godfather, his Uncle Eli, and that was enough. He didn’t need any other male figure in his life.

Meanwhile, Seraphina was sitting in the control room that she had set up in the basement of her mansion that was also protected by a secret door which could only be unlocked by her biometrics data.
With a huge bucket of butter and cheese popcorn in her lap, Seraphina was going through the recorded footage from all the cameras that she had gotten installed to keep an eye on her enemies.
She saw Elijah telling Katherine that he needs to leave because of an urgent work.
She also saw Marcus and William arguing and threatening each other.
But what caught her interest was the scene that she got to see through the cameras that she had installed in Ethan’s penthouse.
Her eyes widened and her mouth dropped open in shock as she saw what Ethan was doing. As the shock faded away, it was replaced by absolute happiness at the sight of what was happening at Ethan’s place. She could not believe that she had somehow missed this particular development.
But she wasn’t at fault for having missed this scene. Who in their sane mind would want to watch Ethan all the time because that man only ever indulged in gambling, sex, and drinking.
He was pretty basic and Seraphina had other important players to deal with.
“Oh no!” Seraphina exclaimed in a high pitched, childlike voice and burst into peals of laughter, “This is gold! Pure and unadulterated gold!” she almost fell down the chair while laughing.
“Oh!” she breathed and positioned herself back on the chair and ate a handful of popcorns, “This is a treasure for later.” she laughed thinking about how and when she was going to use this particular footage.
