[48 – Sinners Always Have To Pay]
Jaxon was in his cabin, going through the documents when his cell phone rang. Hearing the specific ringtone, Jaxon felt his heart drop and an urgency set in. His breathing quickened and hands became trembling as he fumbled while trying to answer the call.
“Hello.” he answered the call, feeling of dread settling in the pit of his stomach.
“Sir, there’s a problem here. Can you please come at the earliest.” a man responded from the other side, his voice was filled with panic.
Jaxon could hear someone screaming in the background along with other specific sounds that collectively sounded like someone was fighting, “What is happening?” Jaxon stood up from his chair and picked up his car keys ready to leave.
“Sir, Mrs. Cooper wants us to remove the ventilator and -” Jaxon did not need to hear more. He knew what was happening so he swiftly responded, “Do not, I repeat, do not let her do anything! I am coming.” he said before ending the call.
Jaxon ran outside the company building and to the parking lot, not caring about anybody and anything. His hands trembled when he tried to unlock the car using his key but finally managed to do so in the third try. Buckling up, Jaxon drove away to his destination, praying to all the mystical powers and the God almighty to keep Mrs. Cooper from doing what he knew she planned to.

Elijah was still at Seraphina’s place. Both of them were sitting on the recliner sofa in the home theatre at Seraphina’s mansion as they watched the latest Spider Man movie. Elijah had his arm wrapped around Seraphina while her head was resting against his chest.
While Seraphina was watching the movie, Elijah find contentment in just being there with Seraphina. His attention was more on her than the movie and Seraphina knew that. She was very well aware of his hand caressing her arm, of his fingers moving through her long hair, and of the small pecks that he would lay atop her head from time to time.
She did not care about these small caresses and tender kisses and continued to enjoy the movie. Amidst all the planning and plotting she too needed some time for herself to relax and just lay down and do nothing.
Everything was fine until he started massaging her scalp. Initially, it only made her feel drowsy but then his fingertips came across the massive scar at the back of her head, right behind her ear. Seraphina’s eyes widened and her body went into alert mode while Elijah frowned in worry and asked, “Sera, this scar -”
Seraphina raised her head from his chest and shifted away slightly, “Oh, this.” she muttered while touching the scar with her fingers, “This is from an old injury.” she replied.
Elijah’s forehead creased with lines of worry, he grabbed Seraphina’s hand and asked, “That felt like one nasty scar and it’s quite big as well. What happened?”
Seraphina tilted her head to look at Elijah. She wondered how he would react if she told him that this nasty scar that he was talking about was a gift from his father and his father’s friends when the three of them had tried to kill her by hitting her head and face repeatedly, when she was only 13 years old.
But she did not tell him because this was not the right time. So, Seraphina decided to lie. With a sad smile curling upon her lips, she lowered her head and replied, “It’s from the accident that took my family away from me.”
Elijah’s eyes immediately softened with sympathy, “I’m so sorry, Sera. I had no idea.” he gently pulled her into his embrace and Seraphina went in willingly.
His wrapped his arms around her while she had her hands placed on either side of his waist, clutching at the fabric of his shirt, “It’s alright. It was a long time ago. It doesn’t hurt now.” she mumbled against his chest letting her tears soak his shirt for additional sympathy.

Jaxon reached at the safe house where he had been keeping his most precious possession under high security. The safe house was situated in a secluded part of the city, surrounded by dense woods and was accessible only by crossing a narrow, winding road.
The outside structure of the safehouse itself was unremarkable. It looked like a modest, single story wood cabin that blended seamlessly into the natural surroundings. But as they say that one should not judge a book by its cover, similarly the outward appearance of that cabin was also deceiving.
Beneath the unassuming exterior laid a fortress that was equipped with modern technology and multiple security systems. Jaxon and Seraphina had spared no expense in creating this safe house and making sure that it served its purpose well.
Jaxon hastily parked his car in the hidden garage that could only be opened by passing through the biometric security system. He then ran up to the entrance and opened the main door with the key that was only available to a few people.
After entering the safe house, Jaxon was greeted by the familiar hum of the high grade security system that had been set up to guard this house. He scanned his retina at the hidden panel by the door. He was sweating, fumbling at every security check because he feared loosing what mattered to him the most.
After a series of biometric checks, voice recognition, and password checks, Jaxon finally arrived at the heavy steel door that clicked open after getting his thumb impression. The moment he stepped inside, Jaxon was hit by a stainless steel, medical tray, right on his forehead.
He did not care about the blood that trickled down his forehead and glanced at the scene in front of him. The resident doctor and nurse rushed towards him while Mrs. Cooper was being held by two security guards.
“Why are you doing this? Why can’t you let her go?!” Mrs. Cooper screamed and cried while struggling in the hold of the security guards.
The doctor quickly pressed a cotton swab against his bleeding forehead but Jaxon did not care and walked up to Mrs. Cooper, Vivian’s mother, his Vivi’s mother.
Jaxon gestured the security guards to leave her. They hesitated for a second but in the end did what Jaxon told them to. Once they let Mrs. Cooper go, she immediately began hitting Jaxon, “Why can you not understand that she is not going to recover! She is gone Jax, she is gone!”
Mrs. Cooper fell down on the floor and continued to wail for her daughter who she had lost 3 and a half years ago, “The doctors have already declared her brain dead, Jax, you are only adding to her sufferings by keeping her on the ventilator even after knowing that she is not going to respond or recover.”
“My daughter has been dead for years now, why are you not letting me put her to rest? Why are you keeping her here, attached to all these machines and locked up like a criminal?” cried Mrs. Cooper while continuing to hit Jaxon feebly.

Jaxon sat beside her on the floor and grabbed her hands in his, “Don’t cry, Aunty, please.” he gently wiped her tears and continued, “You can hit me all you want but I am not going to let you take the ventilator off, at least not until I make all those sinners pay who are responsible for her taking our Vivi away from us.”
“What?” Mrs. Cooper looked up at him, her eyes red and face pale, “What are you talking about?”
“I have found all of those sinners who destroyed our Vivi’s life. The only reason I am keeping alive through these machines is because I will not let her go until I am able to tell her that I have punished each and every person who hurt her.” Jaxon wiped his own tears away before adding, “I promise you, aunty, that once I am done with them, I will let her go.”
His lips trembled and voice cracked while saying, “We will put her to rest together, I promise you. Just give me some time to bring justice to our Vivi. Please, aunty.”
Mrs. Cooper gently traced the wound on his forehead that she was responsible for, “You have always been like a son to me, Jax. I have already lost Vivi, I do not want to loose you too. Why are you wasting your time on -”
Jaxon did not let her complete and added, “I am not wasting my time, aunty. After years of hard work and careful planning, I am finally at the position where I can make them all pay.”
The craze in his eyes was what scared Mrs. Cooper, “But Jax -” she could not complete her sentence as Jaxon interrupted her.
“There is no place for buts and ifs in this situation, aunty. This is a war and believe me this time we will win and the sinners will have to pay.” Jaxon assured her, “I promise you that I will do whatever you want me to do but only after punishing each and every person responsible for taking Vivi’s life.” he promised.
Mrs. Cooper did not know how to respond to that. So she remained silent and walked back to her room where she had been living from the past 3 years leaving Jaxon behind. Once she was gone, Jaxon let the doctor and nurse tend to his wound.
It wasn’t too deep for him to get stitches but he definitely needed to get it bandaged for at least the next two days.
