[50 – Quicksand of a Mess – II]
Elijah was in his room, sleeping. After coming back home, he could not sleep because of the excitement and the fluttering of butterflies in his stomach that made him feel shy and giggle every time the thought came to his mind that Seraphina was his girlfriend now.
He still could not believe that not only did Seraphina reciprocate his feelings but she also accepted his proposal and became his girlfriend, like official girlfriend. It still felt like a dream to him, a dream that kept him awake for the most part of the night.
His whole night was spent tossing and turning, looking at Seraphina’s pictures and videos that were available online, playing mobile games and then downloading his favorite pictures of Seraphina that he found online.
It was only around 3 AM that he finally experienced a wave of drowsiness so strong that it was able to knock him out. Elijah fell asleep with his phone in his hand, still on, and Seraphina’s interview from last year’s fashion week being played.
He slept soundly, unaware of the mess that awaited him next morning.

Seraphina woke up at her usual time and followed through her morning routine but was careful to not aggravate her wound. It had served it’s purpose so there was no reason for her to scratch it every other time.
After coming back home, she showered and got dressed for the office. Knowing what was about to come, Seraphina carefully picked out her outfit for today. To highlight her purity and innocence, and at the same time also reflect her power, Seraphina chose to wear a sophisticated and modern white suit.
It’s jacket featured a belted, cinched waist that created an hourglass silhouette. The jacket had cape-like sleeves, which draped over her shoulders and went down her arms, adding a dramatic flair to the outfit.
The slim fitted pants had a subtle slit at the front of each leg, adding a contemporary touch to the look. Seraphina decided to wear a pair of sleek black heels to go with the outfit and chose to carry a simple black clutch along with her laptop bag.
She chose dainty jewelry pieces to complete the assemble; a light gold bangle, a V-shaped gold necklace and matching earrings. Satisfied with her look, Seraphina sat in her car as her driver drove them to the office.
While on her way, Seraphina received a call from secretary Gina causing her lips to stretch wide in a smirk. Seraphina knew what this was about, “Good morning, Gina.” greeted Seraphina as she answered the call, her voice steady but there were hints of excitement in it.
Gina smiled, she was not unaware of her boss’s plans, “Seraphina, have you seen the latest news?” she asked in a calm tone, “I have shared a few links with you. Do check, you might like it.” the last part was spoked in hushed tone.
Seraphina chuckled and ended the call. She opened the email that Gina had just sent her and went through all the links that she had mentioned in the email.
“Exclusive: Grayson Group Heir Elijah Grayson Allegedly in Affair with Fashion Designer Seraphina Vale” Seraphina read it aloud with a smile on her face that reached her eyes as well. She was absolutely delighted to read each and every news article claiming that she had an affair with Elijah.
This was exactly what she wanted.
Seraphina was confident that Elijah would not deny being in a relationship with her. She knew that Marcus would not have any reason to tell Elijah to deny the rumors as both she and Marcus were aware of her value.
She laughed thinking how Marcus must be cursing his fate for getting involved in a new problem one after another. That damn bastard did not know that this isn’t just his bad luck, or a series of unfortunate coincidences. This is quicksand that Seraphina had specially designed for Marcus, William, and Daniel to trap them.
The more they struggle to get out, the more they will sink. The more they try to sort out their problems, the more troublesome and complicated the situations Seraphina will create for them, making it hard for them to escape.

Meanwhile, Marcus knocked at Elijah’s door multiple times but when the latter did not open, Marcus had to barge inside his son’s room. He frowned on seeing Elijah still asleep even at this late hour. This was so unlike him.
The digital clock on the bedside table blinked 10:34 AM in accusatory red digits, while Elijah laid sprawled across his bed, snoring softly, and oblivious to his father’s worry.
“Elijah! Wake up!” Marcus shook his son awake, “Wha- Dad? What happened?” said Elijah is a sleep laced, husky voice as he rubbed his eyes and let out a yawn.
“What happened? You are asking me what happened?” because of all the problems he and his family had been facing from the past month, Marcus had become grumpier and annoyed than usual.
He gave Elijah his cell phone, showing him at article about him and Seraphina, “See for yourself.” Marcus spoke through gritted teeth, “If I am not wrong, then these pictures are from yesterday, right? So this is where you went after the press conference?!”
Elijah scrolled through the news article, his eyes widening slightly, and his heart beating fast in his chest. The article was not wrong per se. The only thing that worried him was Seraphina’s reaction. They had just started dating, not even 24 hours had passed since she said yes, and now this.
“Dad -” Elijah felt speechless, he could not think of the right words to say.
Marcus stared at him, his brows drawn together in a frown, “Is this the girl you told me about? The one you like?” he asked.
Elijah nodded his head in positive, a subtle smile curving upon his lips. He handed the phone back to Marcus, who in return asked him, “And, she’s the owner of the company where Chloe works?”
“Yeah.” Elijah responded while avoiding to meet his father’s gaze.

Marcus sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, “Fine! Invite her to our New Year’s party, I want to meet her.”
Elijah’s face lit up with a brilliant smile but dulled the next second, lines of worry creasing his forehead, “Dad?”
Marcus chuckled and patted Elijah’s shoulder, “Don’t worry, I am not asking you to break up or anything. I am not some villain from a melodramatic TV show. I just want to meet my son’s girlfriend, that’s it.”
