[52 – The Reckoning Approaches]
After ending the call with Elijah, Seraphina burst out laughing. She could not believe the twist of fate, the circle of life and karma. After years, life had brought her back at the doorstep of her enemy. Just a few more days of distance before she would be marking her return in the lives of her enemies, in the lives of those who believe that she was dead.

But poor bastards did not know that she was back to haunt them and deliver their deserve punishments. Oh, what an irony it was, that Marcus’s son himself was inviting the biggest trouble of their lives to come and attend the New Year’s party.

Seraphina felt a rush of exhilaration run through her body causing it to tingle as she envisioned the chaos that she was going to unleash at the event. And that was only the first round of starters that were on the menu for the upcoming year that she had specifically planned for each of them.

It was funny and exciting at the same time. She was absolutely going to enjoy this New Year’s party but that could not be said about the Grayson, Sullivan, and Thompson family because this New Year will only bring them death and destruction. Seraphina was going to make sure that that happens.

Seraphina pulled out a USB drive from her laptop bag and handed it to Gina, “How many days do you think it would take the government agency to go through this report, collect all the evidence they need and then call in the parties involved for interrogation?”

The only other person who knew of each and every of Seraphina’s plans was Gina. She was not just Seraphina’s secretary but an old friend who chose to follow Seraphina and aid her in all of her plans. So, obviously, she was aware of the contents of the USB drive.

“Approximately 4 days.” replied Gina while holding onto the USB drive securely, “I know what I have to do with this.” she said before Seraphina could explain her anything.

Seraphina smiled in approval and praised her, “You are the best, Gina!”

“I know.” responded Gina with a smile of her own, “Anything else?”

“No. Not for now, at least.”

Meanwhile, Chloe was sitting at her desk looking much better that she had been in the past few days. Now that the news about Ethan and Caroline’s scandals have been proven fake, the gossips and hushed whispers around her have died down as well.

She was glad to finally be able to come to the office. Though it had only been 2 days that she had to work from home but she missed coming to the office, the reason being Jaxon. All Chloe wanted to do right now was meet Jaxon and have the lunch with him that she was promised to but was not able to have.

Since the morning she had been looking for Jaxon but she was not able to find him. She wondered if he was in his cabin, he must be busy after all. She was worried if Jaxon even knew that she had come to the office or not.

After contemplating about it for an hour, Chloe finally decided to go to his cabin and see for herself if was there. Arriving at the door to Jaxon’s cabin, Chloe adjusted her clothes and hair to make sure that she was looking fine before knocking at the door lightly.

“Come in.” her face lit up when she heard his voice from inside the cabin. He was here!

Pushing the door open, Chloe stepped inside with a smile on her face as she greeted Jaxon, “Good morning!”

Jaxon, who was not expecting it to be Chloe, froze momentarily as he looked up at her. His eyes widening slightly before his stoic and slightly shocked expressions turned into that of happiness, forced happiness.

“Oh, Chloe! What a pleasant surprise! I did not know that you were at the office today.” he said while putting his pen inside the file that he going through and closing it, “Come, have a seat.” he said while gesturing at the chair opposite to him.

But Chloe did not respond. The smile on Chloe’s face dulled the moment she spotted the bandage wrapped around Jaxon’s forehead. Concern she stepped closer and asked, “What happened?”

“Ah, this, well, I had a minor accident while bathing. I slipped on the wet floor and I ended up hitting my head. Don’t ask me for the details, it was a very embarrassing moment so I am not going to relive it.” Jaxon explained, a sheepish smiled curved upon his lips.

“But, there’s nothing serious, right? I mean it is head wound, so -” Chloe leaned over the desk and gently touched the bandaged wound on his forehead with her fingertips causing a wave of disgust to wash over him.

She pulled her hand back and said, “I hope you’re really okay. Head injuries can be tricky.” her voice was gentle and laced with concern.

Jaxon chuckled softly, though there was a hint of tension in his eyes, “Really, Chloe, I’m fine. Just a bump and a bruised ego. Nothing more.” that made Chloe smile, “Come, sit.” he repeated.

Chloe did not need to be told again. She gently, and elegantly pulled the chair back before taking a seat and sliding the chair closer to the desk. Entwining her fingers, she placed her joined hands on the desk as Jaxon said, “I saw the conference. I am glad that the truth came out.”

“Yeah.” Chloe responded, “The last few days had been a total mess and full of tension. I missed being here at the office. Working from home isn’t as much fun.” she replied with a smile of relief curving upon her lips.

“I agree!” exclaimed Jaxon, “So, what brings you here?” he asked even though he had an inkling about why Chloe came to see him.

“Well,” she shyly pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear and lowered her eyes while saying, “I was wondering if your lunch offer is still valid. I mean, it’s been years that we last saw each other and there’s so much to catch up, so.”

A murderous glint entered Jaxon’s eyes, the smile on his face turning into a sinister smirk as he watched Chloe acting to be shy and coy. He clenched his hands tightly as he recalled Chloe’s true face that she hides behind a deceptive mask.

Willing himself to calm down, Jaxon smiled brightly when Chloe raised her head to look up at him, and said, “Of course, it is!”

“I know this great little place not far from here. It’s my favorite spot for lunch. We will go there today at 1, will that be okay? asked Jaxon.

“That would be perfect!” responded Chloe, her lips stretched in a wide smile.
