Chapter 57: [57 – The Fractured Reality – II]
After breaking the hug, Seraphina and Elijah walked inside her mansion, hand in hand, happily chatting away. While Seraphina went to her bedroom to change, Elijah decided to heat up the food that he had brought along and serve it at the dining table.
After about 20 minutes, Seraphina arrived at the dining table wearing her night suit, a pair of purple colored, satin pajamas and a matching button down shirt in the same material. Her hair were pulled up in a messy bun and her face free of makeup.
Even in that simple, slightly messy look, she looked like the most beautiful woman in the world to Elijah. In his eyes, there had never been any woman who was as sweet, as nice, and as beautiful as Seraphina and there could never be another one ever.
It was so easy for him to get lost in her, to just sit there and stare at her for hours without saying any word, and without getting bored. In fact, staring at her was quite rapidly becoming his favorite pass time.
“Do you need any help?” Seraphina’s voice brought Elijah out of his thought, “Huh, no!” he responded and began pushing her out of the kitchen gently.
“You just sit here and relax, my lady. I’ll be your server and your date for the night.” said Elijah making Seraphina giggle. He pulled the chair for her and made her sit before going back inside the kitchen to grab the plates of food.
The two of them enjoyed their food while talking to each other about their day, and about every other topic that they could think of. One thing led to the other, and from the middle of somewhere their topic of discussion became Elijah’s family.
“You know, mu Dad is the typical coconut Dad, harsh from the outside but soft from the inside. He’s a man with a heart of gold.” exclaimed Elijah with a smile on his face while Seraphina looked at him with raised brows wondering if he was truly talking about Marcus Grayson.
“Really?” she asked and Elijah missed the mocking note in her tone.
“Absolutely!” he said, “He’s a very generous man, always willing to help others. He can be strict at times but he just wants to protect our family and keep us safe.”
“Nice.” Seraphina stuffed her mouth with the spoonful of rice to keep herself from saying anything that might cause problems, “What about your mother?” she asked.
“My Mom,” a fond smile curved upon his lips, “she is the most beautiful and elegant lady in this world who is equally compassionate and loving. You know she is the glue that holds our family together. Without her, all of wouldn’t be able to survive.”
Seraphina very well knew how “compassionate” and “loving” Katherine was truly. She had a first hand experience of that after all.
“What about your siblings?” she asked.
Elijah was about to speak but closed his mouth and looked at her with a teasing smile on his face, “Are you trying to gather information about my family?” he assumed that Seraphina was asking him about his family because she wanted to be ready and prepared when she would be meeting them at the New Year’s party.
Seraphina did not bother to hide her smirk, “Something like that.”
Elijah chuckled, shaking his head. He noticed that there wasn’t enough Thai green curry left in Seraphina’s bowl so he grabbed the bowl and served it for her while saying, “My younger brother, Ethan, well, he is the wild child of our family. He is funny, mischievous, and ambitious. But he is quite a gentleman. I am proud of him.”
“As for Chloe, you already know how she is.” Elijah continued, “She is the youngest and most pampered one is our family. Though she is short tempered but she has a very innocent heart. She is the true light of our family, always bringing joy and happiness wherever she goes.”
Seraphina did not how to react to this. She wondered if Elijah was lying to her, trying to set a good image of his family in front of her. Or, did he actually believe in all this. But with the conviction that he was telling her all this made her think that Elijah perhaps, was not aware of his family’s true colors.
Could it be that because he had lived most of his life with his grandfather that he did not know about the exact crimes each of his family member has committed. But there was no way he did not ever realize the true intentions and faces of the people around him.
No one is that naïve and innocent in this world, in this era. Also, Elijah has his own share of crimes. So Seraphina was more inclined on believing that this was all a pretense. There was no way she was going to believe anything that anyone from the Grayson, Sullivan, or Thompson family told her.
They all were a bunch of criminals, liars, and sinners.

Back at the Sullivan mansion, Caroline was in her room, reading a book when her vision started getting blurred, and her head started spinning. She believed that it was happening because she had not been able to sleep properly from the past few days so she placed the book aside and laid down on the bed think that sleeping would help.
But after minutes of her falling asleep, Caroline found herself transported to a very familiar scene. She saw herself standing in a dimly lit room, the smell of human fluids filling her nostrils. The room she had been in was a basement of some sorts and in front of her was a young girl, a 10 years old perhaps considering her tiny stature.
She was sitting on the floor with her hair covering her face. Caroline covered her nose not able to handle that smell and started looking for a door to escape but stopped still in her tracks when she heard the little girl speak.
“Do you really think that just by stealing my identity you would actually become me, Camille?”
Caroline’s eyes widened and she hastily turned around and screamed when she saw the little girl standing right next to her. Now that her hair were pushed back, Caroline could see who the little girl was.
“What? What is this? Who are you?” Caroline screamed and ran into the opposite direction but she could not escape the young girl who kept yelling, “You are a fake, Camille! You are not the real Caroline! One day everybody will know! Did you listen to me, you are fake dear cousin, you are just a fake!”
