Chapter 60: [60 – Setting the Stage]
Time passed rather too quickly. The past week seemed to have flown by in a blur and what felt like only a few hours, the night of 31st January arrived. Everybody around her seemed to be happily involved in the Christmas activities and planning for the New Year. Seraphina found herself surrounded by excitement and joy that reminded her of her past.
There was a time when she used to be just as happy and excited as others around this time of the year. She remembered decorating their home and the Christmas tree with twinkling lights and festive ornaments, while her mother used to bake them mouth watering treats, their delicious aroma filling up the air.
In those days, their home would always smell of sugar, chocolate and cinnamon. Their evenings were always spent attending cheerful gatherings, their parents would often tell them their childhood stories of Christmas and New Year and so much more.
Seraphina still remembered sitting by the fire till late night while waiting for Santa Claus to come. She would always end up sleeping on the couch and would find herself covered up in blankets the next morning at the same place and surrounded by several thoughtful gifts.
She missed the warmth of the holiday spirit that had been special to her only because of her family. Now that her family was gone, these festivals meant nothing to Seraphina. There was no warmth, no joy left in her life except for the raging fire inside her that demanded the sacrifice of William, Marcus, Daniel, and their families.
Seraphina wiped the tears from her eyes that had made themselves evident when the memories of her family flooded her mind. She had cried enough, now was the time to make her enemies cry.
Stepped in front of the gown that she had finally selected for her grand return in the lives of her enemies, she marveled at the striking, daring choice that she had made because she was sure that it would command attention, it was the perfect representation of her power.
She wanted to make a statement and this gown was perfect for it.

Elijah arrived at Seraphina’s house, earlier than they had discussed. He was wearing the suit that Seraphina had picked for him. She had said that it matched the gown that she was going to wear and Elijah was dying to see her all dressed up.
He wore a midnight blue suit crafted from a luxurious fabric that felt soft to his touch. It was a perfect fit for him and emphasized his tall, athletic build. The lapels of his jacket were adorned with a subtle pattern of small, dark blue floral embroidery that looked quite elegant.
Beneath the suit jacket, he wore a crisp white, button down shirt that had a classic collar. His trousers matched the color of his jacket and fell just right over his polished black dress shoes, completing the sleek silhouette.
His tie was a shade darker than his jacket, and was knotted at his throat adding the required touch of color that complemented his whole outfit. Not only this suit, but Seraphina had also gifted him a pair of silver cufflinks with his initials engraved on them, “E” on one and “G” on the other, both the alphabets surrounded by detailed and complicated geometric pattern.
He had styled his hair neatly with just a hint of tousled charm. Exactly as Seraphina liked.
Elijah paced back and forth in the living room of Seraphina’s mansion, waiting for his girlfriend to finally step out of her bedroom from where she had been getting ready since the past 4 hours.

To welcome the new year, Marcus had decided to through a lavish party at the most luxurious hotel in the city. Like every year Marcus spared no expense in ensuring that every decoration, every detail was impeccable.
The grand ballroom where the event was being organized, was adorned with crystal chandeliers and opulent décor that casted a shimmering, soft, and ambient glow over the ballroom. VVIP guests from every field, ever industry arrived in their finest attire.
The atmosphere in the ballroom was filled with laughter and the clinking of glasses as people toasted to new beginnings and prosperous ventures for the upcoming new year that was only a few hours away. Marcus was totally in his element as the host of the party, moving effortlessly and with a practiced ease, among the guests, ensuring that everyone felt welcomed and appreciated.
He was waiting for Elijah to arrive with his new girlfriend. Marcus had gotten his minions to get him all the information that they could find on Seraphina and it was needless to say that Marcus was impressed. She was the perfect candidate among the others who he had in mind to become his eldest daughter-in-law.
After all, there weren’t many wealthy, single women in their society. And those who were, had their own eccentricities. Seraphina seemed perfect and Marcus could not wait to meet her.
He was blissfully unaware of the fact that the woman that he was waiting for was only going to bring him the greatest troubles that he had ever faced. This new year was probably going to the last year of his life.

Meanwhile, Daniel was sitting in his car, alone, waiting for the men that he had hired to do the job for him. He planned on throwing the problem named Seraphina Vale from their lives for once and for all so that he could push his daughter to take her rightful place next to Elijah.
He took out a packet of off-white colored powder, a special drug that he, Marcus, and William not only manufactured but also were involved in the smuggling of it to various countries and cities. He planned on using this drug on Seraphina and have the men that he had hired exploit her to the point of insanity and if required, then murder her as well.
He deliberately wanted to make it look messy so that everybody would assume that this was not a pre-planned crime and that it happened in the heat of the moment. Daniel had paid these men enough for them to take the blame and go to jail for a while as he had promised them that they would be well-compensated and protected from any serious punishment.
That was all the assurance that these cheap criminals needed. Daniel handed them the drug and had one of his minion aid these men to sneak into the party while pretending to be waiters.
Daniel smirked and lit a cigarette feeling quite sure of himself in that moment.
