Chapter 65: [65 – A Twist in the Shadows]
His heart pounding in his chest, Elijah continued to hit the door with a force that caused the wood to splinter. The sounds of Seraphina screaming and struggling caused him to break the door, the crashing sound echoing through the dimly lit room.
His blood boiled and the volcano of rage erupted as his gaze fell over the scene in front of him. There were four men holding Seraphina down to the bed while she cried for help. There was no doubt about what their intentions were, it was very clear to Elijah what these men were trying to do.
Elijah’s gaze landed on Seraphina who was being held against the bed, her dress torn, eyes wide with terror but there was still a glimmer of defiance in her gaze. Without a moment of hesitation and without caring about anything, Elijah launched himself at the nearest man, his fists flying.
The expressions of surprise on Seraphina’s attackers’ face quickly turned into that of pain and fear as Elijah’s merciless blows landed on them with brutal precision. He fought against the four of them like a man possessed, fueled by the raging need to protect Seraphina.
The four of them attacked him together but Elijah was still able to overpower them. They then tried to escape but fortunately, Marcus had arrived in time along with William, Daniel, and their bodyguards.
Elijah wanted to kill them all for hurting Seraphina, he actually was going to kill them only if Marcus had not interfered in time. While their bodyguards took care of those bastards, Marcus grabbed Elijah by his arm, “Elijah, don’t lose your head now. Look at Seraphina, she needs you.” he pointed out making Elijah look at Seraphina was now lying curled up on the bed, shedding silent tears.
“Take care of her first.” Marcus ordered, “Do you understand what I am saying?” he asked holding Elijah by his neck, making him look into his eyes, “Go to Seraphina, now!” his voice calm but authoritative.
Elijah regained his focus, still seething with rage. But he did what Marcus told him to and turned back to check up on Seraphina. Considering what had just transpired, Elijah did not touch Seraphina until she allowed him to touch her.
He simply hovered around her shaking self until their eyes met. His concerned gaze met hers of gratitude and before he could say anything to comfort her, Seraphina readily launched herself in his arms, clutching onto him tightly.
Her fingernails dug into his shoulder as she buried her face in his chest, still shaking and sobbing lightly. Elijah wrapped his arms around her, gently and securely, wanting to make her feel protected, “Sshh, it’s okay. You are safe now.” he kept on murmuring while rubbing soothing circles on her back.
“You are safe, sweetheart. They cannot hurt you now.” Elijah said causing Seraphina to pull back slightly so that she could raise her head to look up at him as she asked, “Promise?”
Elijah’s heart felt heavy seeing her red rimmed eyes, the splotches of tears on her face, and the smudged make-up that screamed to him about the horror that she was subjected to, “Promise.” he replied, wiping away her tears gently and carefully, as if she was as fragile as glass.
Seraphina hugged him again, tighten than ever, her cheek nestling softly against his chest, finding comfort in the steady beat of his heart and the rise and fall of his chest as he breathed.
But that was not the case.
At least the smirk curved upon Seraphina’s lips told a different story.

A few days ago, when Daniel made that plan to ruin Seraphina in the worst possible way he did not know that Seraphina had her eyes on each and every of his moves. It wasn’t just Marcus and the Grayson family she was continuously spying on after all.
She had her eyes on Daniel as well.
Seraphina knew of Daniel’s intentions and what he wanted to do to her. His nefarious plans gave her an idea of her own. She quickly called Margaret and Asher to meet her at her and the three of them sat together at Seraphina’s real house formulating the new plan.
Earlier, it was planned the the government officials would arrive at the party along with a bunch of police officers to interrogate Marcus and Daniel about the low quality materials that were being used in the construction for the Community Comfort Homes Project.
But Seraphina postponed it for a while. The government official on this case was quite eager to proceed with the interrogation but Seraphina managed to stop him. She sent someone to the official’s office, pretending to be Daniel’s representative and bribed the official with enough money to keep quiet for a while.
She made sure that the whole bribe give and take was recorded for future evidence purposes.
After making sure that they had enough time to accommodate their new plan, Seraphina had Asher make a deal with those four men whom Daniel had hired to assault her and then kill her. The same deal was also given to the security guard who was going to help Daniel and others gain the access inside the hotel and then erase the CCTV footage later.
As per their plan, Asher paid them double the amount that Daniel had given them and bought those criminals within 5 minutes. All they had to do was exactly what Daniel told them to but instead of actually assaulting her, those four criminals were instructed to pretend that they were assaulting her.
While the security guard was told to not erase the CCTV footage and make sure that they had enough evidence to apprehend Daniel for his involvement in Seraphina’s assault case. This was the first step in creating rift between Marcus and Daniel.
As for the Community Comfort Homes Project, that was going to help Seraphina widen the rift that she was about to create between two of her enemies. Poor Daniel wouldn’t even know what hit him until it was too late.
