Chapter 70: [70 – A Crack in the Illusion]
Sitting in car, still outside Seraphina’s mansion, Elijah unlocked his cell phone and clicked on the message that he had just received from the investigation officer he had been in contact with since the incident. The message read;
Sir, we have identified the main culprit behind what happened with Miss Vale.
Please visit the police station to view the evidence and the confession videos of the criminals involve.
The police officer could not share the details on the case on phone and that’s why he requested Elijah to visit the station to check the evidence that they had gathered. Not wasting even another second, Elijah started his car and drove himself to the police station.
Just like Marcus, Elijah too had derived on the conclusion that this was a pre planned attack and the target had already been selected. It was no coincidence and Elijah was eager to know just who was daring enough to target the woman that he loved.
Elijah was filled with so much rage, his heart and mind enveloped by the feeling on retribution, that he did not follow the speed rules that night and did not care if he broke a signal or two. He could easily pay the fine for it all later but right now his main concern was to find that bastard who dared to cause harm to Seraphina.
Though Elijah was not the one to break the rules and take law in his own hand, but this situation was not something that he had ever experienced before. On his way to the police station, the only thoughts that consumed Elijah’s mind were laced with murderous intent.
He actually wanted to kill that heinous being who had such a disgusting mind to hire people to assault a woman. The only name that rang in his mind when he imagined who this person could be was of Blake.
Blake Anderson.
The man who had made it a mission to destroy Elijah’s life. The man who had been responsible for dragging Elijah into all those criminal cases. The man who was still free and out there waiting for an opportunity to strike at Elijah once again.
Elijah was a 100 per cent sure that it must be Blake who planned on hurting Seraphina in the worst possible way to hurt him. But all his theories went in vain when Elijah finally reached the police station and was able to see the CCTV footage from the hotel and listen to the confessions of the criminals involved.
Elijah was shown the CCTV footage of the hotel where Daniel himself helped those four men enter the hotel premises and the gain access to the party venue by disguising themselves as servers. He could not believe that Daniel, the man whom he treated and respected like an uncle, like a family member would do something like that.
At first he could not believe that Daniel would do something like this, that Daniel was the mastermind behind this disgusting plan. But when he watched and listened to the recording of the confessions of each of those four men, that Elijah felt as if he was unaware of the true colors of people around him.
This was not what he thought Daniel was like.
“Sir, I just needed money for my sister’s treatment. She is struggling for her life and I being her only living relative could not pay for the hospital bills that is why I took up this job. Mr. Thompson promised me that he would take care of everything.” confessed one of the criminals before bursting into tears. He continued to beg for forgiveness as he did not want to cause anybody harm but was forced to do so because of his financial condition.
“I did not want to do this, officer. I was threatened to after I tried to steal Mr. Thompson’s watch. He said that he would kill me for it if I did not do as he told me to do. Trust me, I was not going to participate in -” Elijah could not listen to the complete confession as the image of what might have happened to Seraphina flashed in front of his eyes.
“Mr. Thompson had given us this drug -” the man placed the off white colored powdered substance towards the interrogating officer, “He told us that by using this, the girl would no longer be in her senses and would not be able to feel what is happening to her so she would not be in pain.” the man confessed making Elijah want to vomit out of disgust that he felt listening to the confession.
“I had to do it, officer. If I had not, he would have killed my family!” the fourth man confessed, “I had worked for Mr. Thompson before but it only involved taking care of minor nuances. He said that he would throw me in jail and make my family pay if I did not do what and as he wanted.”
“He told us to kill the girl if it became necessary.” the first man who had started crying and begging, added causing the most damage to Elijah’s trust.
He clenched his fists tight, his knuckles turning white as Elijah continued to listen to the confessions of the four men that Daniel had hired to not only assault and exploit Seraphina but also kill her. The unfolding horror unraveling layer after layer of betrayal that cut deeper than he could have imagined.
The revelation that Daniel, the man Elijah had considered to be a family member, trusted and respected, was behind this vile plan, shook him to his core.
The image of Seraphina’s face, marred by fear and pain, fueled his anger. In that moment, Elijah wanted nothing more than to confront Daniel and beat him to death to make him pay for the suffering that he caused to Seraphina and the amount of trauma he could have caused.
But Elijah was not the one to take law in his hands, not even when he wanted to do so the most. Consumed by a fierce need for justice, Elijah filed a complaint against Daniel Thompson, trusting the police to handle the matter and punish him according to the law.
