Chapter 77: [77 – A New Variable]
After making sure that Elijah was asleep, Seraphina slowly and very gently detangled herself from him, careful to not wake him up. She slid away from him but remained seated on the bed, watching him sleep.
He looked so pitiful and Seraphina could not help but feel sorry for the man because he was going to suffer a lot in the upcoming future and she too would end up breaking his heart. She was not going to lie by saying that she did not feel anything for him, that she was not attracted to Elijah.
Seraphina had indeed felt the magnetic pull towards him but there was no way that the simple attraction was ever going to develop into something. That was a chance, a risk that she did not plan to take. She was not going to risk her years of planning, years of struggle over just a minute crush.
She has responsibilities and vows that she needed to fulfil which she was not going to risk for anybody. The only thing that would change after Elijah’s innocence is proved is that she would try her best to avoid causing him direct harm. She would not be accusing him or punishing him for anything but he still would have to suffer the heartbreak, get his trust broken and be betrayed by her.
Seraphina sighed and stretched her hand over to touch Elijah’s face but stopped herself from doing so as she felt a painful feeling tug at her heart. Sighing, she pulled her hand back and stepped down the bed. She turned off ever other light in the room except for a small LED nightlight in the corner on the room casting a dim glow over the entire bedroom.
Slowly closing the door behind her, Seraphina stepped out of the bedroom and went in the kitchen to make herself a cup of hot chocolate. She badly needed one. As she was gathering the ingredients to make a mug for herself, Seraphina heard the notification alert of her cell phone.
Putting down the ingredients on the counter, she checked her phone. Asher had sent her a message. She opened it, her eyes scanning the text quickly.
I am looking into the list as per the observation that you shared.
My men are on the lookout for Blake. We do not where he is right now but we will find soon.
Also, I have also found a few things on Evelyn that might help the case. Will tell you in details tonight.
Seraphina’s grip on her phone thinking about the threat that this man, Blake Anderson posed. If he had been able to do so much so far and still continues to try and hurt Elijah, then it was obvious that they were dealing with something far more complicated and dangerous than they had initially thought.
Understanding that Asher was planning to come visit her tonight, Seraphina quickly messaged him back to tell him not to come.
Do not come home tonight.
Elijah is here. He looks pretty upset after what happened with Daniel.
Seraphina hoped that Asher would not think about it too much. After all he can be quite over protective brother especially after what had happened all those years. He never was in favor of her plan of using Elijah and he must have become overly worried now that Elijah was most probably innocent.
She could very well understand Asher’s concerns for she too had the same concerns about herself. A wave of slight relief washed over Seraphina when she received Asher’s message that read;
Okay. Take care.
Of yourself and of him as well.
Seraphina let out a sigh, and responded to Asher’s message with;
I will. Take care of yourself as well and be careful.
We do not know about what we are dealing with.
After se sent the message, Seraphina went back to making a mug of hot chocolate for herself. She glanced at the clock; it was past lunch time so she decided to prepare some snacks for a late lunch as well. She did not know if Elijah had eaten something or not since last night because he was at the police station the whole time.
So he was going to feel hungry after waking up. Seraphina chose to make some pasta and grilled meant and stir fried vegetables.
Though they were not sure of this new variable that they have to deal with and would probably need to eliminate in the near future, Seraphina was sure that they would be able to handle it well. After all, this Blake Anderson could not be a bigger monster than Marcus, William, and Daniel.
And if she and her the people with her were capable of dealing with these three, than they would be able to deal with this Blake Anderson as well. Taking a sip of her freshly made, hot beverage, Seraphina thought about what would she be doing, if she was Blake Anderson.
Humming her favorite song, Seraphina went to her study where she had installed the monitors on which she could view the CCTV footage from all the cameras that had been installed at this mansion as well. A smirk appeared over her lips, curving them upwards thinking about how hard it was for anybody to spot those tiny but effective spy CCTV cameras that she had installed all around her properties.
This is why she could spot an idle car, down the street from her mansion. The car would not have been suspicious if it was not for the blurred figure of a man sitting inside the car. She could easily make out that it was a man. the poor disguise that he had opted for was not enough.
Seraphina chuckled imagining what Blake Anderson must be thinking right now. He must be feeling proud of being able to keep an eye on her house, thinking that he was being careful, staying off the radar for years. But that was so not the case.
Taking a few screenshots from the video footage, Seraphina sent them to Asher along with the message;
I think I have found what we have been looking for.

Unbeknownst to Blake, he continued to watch over Seraphina’s mansion with cold and calculating eyes. He had been observing Elijah from a distance since he came back from London. He had been following Elijah since long and went everywhere that he went, even to London and then back to the States.
He knew that Seraphina and Elijah were in a relationship now. Blake had nothing against Seraphina, for the woman was quite nice from what he had seen and observed so far. She was just a fashion designer who was into a few charities and recently had been getting involved with the Grayson family and their friends.
Blake did not want to hurt her for she had done nothing to evoke his ire. But she was very dear and close to Elijah. That guy seemed to be truly in love with this Seraphina, after all, he got his father’s best friend arrested for her and even hit him without any hesitation.
That was enough for him to chose Seraphina for the ultimate sacrifice. He wanted Elijah to know and feel the same feeling, the same suffering that he had been suffering through from the past 5 years. This was the right time and right person to make Elijah go through the same pain that Blake had by now become addicted to. He smirked, knowing that he had the upper hand now.
After a few hours, Blake drove away and back to the place that he had rented and had been hiding there instead of living like a normal person does. The city’s lights reflected in his rearview mirror, a stark contrast to the darkness of his intentions. The game was far from over, and he was determined to stay one step ahead. This time, he was going to end this for once and for all.
He had been chasing after Elijah since long, waiting for the right opportunity. Perhaps, this was the reason that Elijah kept on surviving every accident that Blake had planned for him because even the God wanted Blake to hurt Elijah in the worst possible way by taking away his most beloved person away from him just as Elijah had done to him.

The sun was just beginning to set when Elijah stirred. He felt disoriented, the events of the previous night rushing back in a painful flood of memories. Not wanting to ponder over those memories and needing a distraction, Elijah went out of the bedroom in search of Seraphina.
He found her in the kitchen, a fresh pot of coffee brewing. She looked up and smiled, a weary one but genuine. He went to stand closer to her but did not hug her, even though he wanted to because he still was not over what had happened just yesterday night.
It was bound to leave some trauma and Elijah did not want to trigger her by doing anything. So he was being careful around her, waiting for her to initiate any contact.
“Good evening!” she said and poured a cup of coffee for him as well, “How are you feeling?”
“Better.” Elijah replied, though the pain was still there. “Thank you for everything, Seraphina.”
“We’re in this together.” she told him and hugged him causing him to relax and surrender to Seraphina’s warmth.
