Chapter 78: [78 – Depths of Deception]
The two of them stayed like that, wrapped in each other’s embrace with Seraphina being the comforting one while Elijah enjoyed being comforted and pampered by her love. For some reason, that he did not know and honestly did not even want to know, Elijah could feel a subtle change in the way Seraphina was holding him.
It felt as if some of the hesitation and the awkwardness that is usually there in the initials few months of the relationship, had been washed away. It felt as if she had accepted him fully, completely.
Smiling, Elijah pulled her tighter against his body, lifting her up her feet slightly while Seraphina had to cling onto his shoulders for support. Seraphina giggled slightly and threading her fingers through the hair on the back of his head, scratching his scalp lightly with her finger nails, “Feeling better?” she asked, whispering the words into his ear like a soft melody.
“Much, much better.” Elijah nuzzled her neck and took a deep breath inhaling her sweet scent before letting her down on her feet. Pulling back from the embrace, he kissed her on the forehead, his lips touching her skin gently before nuzzling the same place.
Sighing, Elijah murmured against her skin, “I did not lie when I said that I am falling in love with you Sera, too hard and too fast. Perhaps, I am already there. I don’t know though because whenever I am with you I feel so much relaxed and at peace that nothing else matters.”
“You have become my home, Sera.” Elijah’s confession startled Seraphina and she looked up at him with wide eyes, “It is not my intention to scare you. I promise that my love for you would never be a reason for me to hurt you.” he was worried that Seraphina would think of his love as an obsession and even get the idea that he viewed her as his possession.
“I am just as much yours as I want you to be mine. Like you said, I will wait for you to reach there but until then allow me to love you for the both of us.” Elijah said and began leaning closer to her.
Seraphina knew that he was leaning in for a kiss and to be honest, she did not want to deny him that. In fact, she found herself raising her head to meet his in the middle but both of them were distracted by the alert sound of the over indicating that the dish that Seraphina had put in was ready.
“I made us an apple and blueberry pie.” Seraphina announced not knowing what else to say while Elijah just chuckled and took a step back. He grabbed two cups and poured the freshly brewed coffee in them. He placed Seraphina’s on the counter while began drinking from his cup as Seraphina wore the gloves and took out the freshly baked pie from the oven.
The toasty, sweet, and citrus aroma of the pie had Elijah taking a deep breath and his stomach began to grumble. He stepped closer to cut himself a piece of the pie but Seraphina slapped his hands away.
“Ouch!” he winced because she had hit him quite hard and his hand already had been bruised after punching Daniel in the face continuously.
Realizing her mistake, Seraphina quickly held onto his hand and began blowing over it, “I am sorry, I am so sorry!” she repeated like a mantra, “I did not mean to hurt you. Do you need something? Anything?” she fumbled giving rise to the feeling of panic inside her.
The panic was not because of the connection that she had felt towards Elijah but in fact was a result of her guilt. Though she had not hurt Elijah in any way yet but she was planning to and that guilt was enough to make her act all fidgety and nervous around him.
“It’s alright!” Elijah smiled and grabbed her by the shoulders, “I am fine! You are worrying as if you had stabbed me instead of slapping my hand away.” he joked but he did not know that it was in Seraphina’s plans.
She wanted to stab him to death and that too right in front of Marcus so that he would be able to realize that how it feels like when your loved ones die right in front of you after being brutally murdered.
Only if he knew.
And what if he came to know?
The questions swirled in her mind for she could not stop thinking about how Elijah would react when he would come to know that it was Seraphina all along. How would he react when he would get to know that the person responsible for his family’s upcoming and pre planned destruction was none other than the woman he claims to love.
Would he still love her after knowing her truth?
Would he still be able to love her after knowing his own family’s truth?
Seraphina watched Elijah grab some snack to have with his coffee while she prepared dinner for both of them. She could not think of a world where Elijah and her could ever be a couple or even friends after knowing the whole truth. And the feeling that came with the realization was quite hurtful.

Meanwhile, Asher continued to look for each and every detail regarding Blake Anderson. Though they did not have enough proof that Blake was present at all the locations where Elijah suffered an accident but he informants did manage to gather information about not one but five suspicious man who were reported to be seen around the same community where Elijah lived in.
Now, this could mean everything and nothing but Asher was not going to rest until he finds out about everything related to this case. He sent the screenshots that he had received from Seraphina to a separate team of his men and told them to keep an eyes on this man who could very well be Blake.
Asher was pretty sure that he was but they needed to be sure because he did not want to mistook this man for Blake and create an Elijah situation all over again. Apart from everything else, there was one question that was troubling Asher the most.
Why would Blake try to hurt Elijah again and again when Elijah was not even responsible for what happened with Evelyn?
He was distracted from his thoughts by the shrill ringtone of his cell phone. Though Asher was not in the mood to answer any call, he changed his mind when he saw Caroline’s name flashing across his cell phone’s screen.
Without waiting, Asher answered the call, “Hello.” and in response all he could hear were Caroline’s sobs, “Ash -” she called making Asher flinch. She had never called him by that nickname even when she used to be Camille. Hearing her call him Ash reminded him of how deep his sister was in the role of Caroline.
“What happened?” he tried to sound as tensed as he could even though he knew why Caroline had called him. The things that he left at her bed were after all quite enough to trigger another illusion.
“Where are you Ash? Can you please come home? I need you.” she cried and sounded absolutely scared. Just as he had wanted her to be.

“I will be there in half an hour.” he responded and ended the call after getting a hum of agreement from her.
Asher sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He knew that what he was doing was wrong but his sister deserved it. As an elder brother, it was his responsibility to show his sister the right path and if she chose not to walk on it even after all his efforts, then the only way that was left was to punish her for her wrongdoings.
She deserved to be punished. While the others with whose life she had played with deserved justice and this was the only way left for him and for Seraphina to make sure that everybody gets what they deserve.

At the police station, Daniel was back in the room where he had been beaten by Elijah. But this time, seated opposite to him was the lawyer that Elijah’s father, Marcus had sent for Daniel telling him of the ways he could come out of this mess.
But Daniel’s mind was thinking of the memory of Elijah hitting him and that too for that whore of his. No matter what happens, there was one thing that Daniel was sure of, he was going to end Seraphina like he had initially planned and this time he was going to let Elijah watch.
After all, he should also have a taste of what happens when someone messes up with Daniel Thompson. He knew that Marcus would not let him sit in the jail for long and he was definitely going to walk out of here so Daniel was not concerned about it.
All he could think of at the moment was how to hurt Elijah back. He would have definitely killed him if it had not been for Marcus and his share in Caroline’s fortune but alas, he has to settle on killing the woman Elijah loves so much.
Daniel chuckled and scratched the side of his bruised nose, “It is going to be fun.” he muttered to himself while signing whatever document that the lawyer had given him to sign.
