Chapter 79: [79 – Silent Vows]
Daniel was released on the very same day that he was caught. Just a few hours after his arrest. The lawyer that Marcus had hired was quite efficient, he did not need to do much or make up a false statement. The lawyer did all that for him.
It felt good knowing that he could still scare Marcus like that because after the confrontation that they had back at the Thompson mansion, Daniel had almost believed that he had lost all his influence and power. Perhaps, he was not as week as he had assumed to be and now he was going to make sure that this fear that his arrest had instilled in Marcus, remains there.
Cracking his knuckles and neck, the first thing that Daniel did after being released was go to the nearest hotel to clean himself and call for a doctor to treat his wounds. He told the lawyer to convey his thanks to Marcus and also promised him quite a hefty amount for getting him released.
It was always a good idea to keep such a person by his side who knows how to make use of the loopholes in the law and is very aware of who to bribe to get things done. Daniel liked the man and decided to make use of him in the future as well whenever the need might arise.
He also vowed to not make the same mistake that he did yesterday. After all, a man learns from his mistakes and Daniel had done that as well. This time he was going to make sure to keep himself away from all that is going to happen with Seraphina at his orders. Daniel decided to play strategically instead of being impulsive like he had been with that yesterday’s incident.
As he sat inside the car that Marcus had sent for him, Daniel finally felt relaxed and along with the hunger for food, he felt the hunger for revenge rise inside him as well. After all, this time Marcus had promised that he would not interfere with how he dealt with the thorn in his path of achieving his ambitions.

At the Sullivan mansion, when Asher arrived back home he acted surprised on seeing the mess that littered around. There were broken pieces of frames and painting that used to be hung on the walls, shards of glass covered the entire floor and there were droplets of dried blood among the glass shards as well.
The maids were busy cleaning the mess while Caroline was no where in sight. When asked, a maid told him about how Caroline had rushed out of her room screaming like crazy and began throwing everything that she could lay her hands on.
The maids described in details about how Caroline had kept yelling that there was someone following her, that there is a girl who was chasing her because she wanted her toys backs but nobody saw any girl or anything else for the matter of fact.
All of them looked quite spooked. Asher could see the worry on their faces, the fear in their eyes that they must have felt when Caroline started behaving like crazy. “Where is she now? Is this her blood?” asked Asher.
One of the maids shook her head in negative and told Asher, “No, sir. Young madam is safe. This blood actually -” she became quite. Asher could see that she was tensed thinking about he was going to react to the news.
“Actually, when young madam accidentally hit a maid who was trying to pull her back to safety so that she would not hurt herself. Young madam ended up hitting her on the head with a vase, injuring her so she was taken to the hospital.” explained the maid.
“Is she alright? I hope that she is not alone at the hospital, is someone there with her or not?” questioned Asher. He was feeling guilty for indirectly causing harm to an innocent person. This was not in the plan and he hoped that it did not cause that maid any permanent damage.
Another maid stepped forward and replied, “She is fine! Though she suffered a head wound but the doctors said that she was okay and we called her family there before leaving. We came back only when her family members arrived.”
Asher felt a wave of relief to wash over him and he felt relaxed and a little less guiltier than before, “Okay.” he took out all the cash that he had in wallet, about two thousand dollars, and handed it to one of the maids, “Give this to her whenever you go to meet her the next time. Also, inform her family members that I will pay all of their medical expenses and that she can take rest at home for the whole month. She will be paid during this time as well.”
The maids looked relieved and grateful. Among all the members that lived in the Sullivan mansion, only Asher was the one whom they knew actually cared for them and treated them like humans unlike the rest of his family.
“And where is Caroline?” he asked again.
“Young madam is in her room, sir. After she hit the maid, Lucy, she panicked and rushed back inside her room. She hasn’t come out since then.”
Asher nodded and dismissed them as he made his way towards Caroline’s room. He spotted the soft toys that he had left for her. A pink colored stuffed elephant, a Pikachu, and a rabbit doll. These used to be Seraphina, the real Caroline’s favorite stuffed toys. She always kept them with her especially while going to bed.
He remembered how his sister had snatched all those toys from Seraphina when she first came to stay with them. Asher vividly remembered how badly Seraphina had cried only to get beaten up by his mother. His parents and sister were awful to Seraphina and every time that Asher tried to interfere, they would only hurt Seraphina twice more brutally so she stopped being vocal about it and did all that he could to help her when no one was watching.
Asher could never in his life forget how he used to sneak in food for her to eat, he could not forget those countless nights that he spent treating her wounds. They could never use a bandage because then everybody else would have found out their secret.
In those three years, Seraphina had been starved, became malnourished and looked so much smaller than the kids her age looked like. Asher was thankful to God for sending him at the right time to rescue Seraphina otherwise she would have died in those deserted fields where his monstrous father, Daniel and William had thrown her away as a means of disposing her body.
They did not know that she was alive and that was the best thing that happened to them in those three years of their lives. Those were the worst times that they had experienced in life, Seraphina especially. This alone is a reason enough for him to be on Seraphina’s side instead of his own family, his own blood related sister.
They were nothing but monsters and they deserved every bit of what Seraphina had planned for them. Willing himself to calm down, Asher knocked at the door to Caroline’s room, all prepared to handle the mess that was waiting for him on the other side of the door.

Meanwhile, Elijah and Seraphina were eating their dinner that the latter had cooked for them. Putting their problems and conflicts on the backside, the young couple were enjoying their meal while watching a comedy movie that Seraphina had picked for them.
After hours, Elijah finally felt himself relax truly. Seraphina’s presence was enough for him and now that she was with him, healthy and safe, he did not fear anything. With her by his side, he could face anything.
He was not aware of the fact that Daniel had been released from the jail because he had put his cell phone on mute mode and did not notice the multiple missed calls that he had received from the police officer he had been in contact with for Seraphina’s case.
Seraphina, on the other hand, find a moment of happiness with Elijah that she had been longing for all her life. She finally felt that she could relax in his presence but her worries about how Elijah was going to react to her truth was still swirling in the back of her mind.

She knew that she did not have enough time with him and that he would walk away after knowing the truth but in the meantime she decided to allow herself to just relax and not overthink. Perhaps, once he would get to know the complete truth, he might not be with her or keep any contact with her but if he was really this good, then Seraphina was sure that he would not be a problem in her way to get revenge.
Seraphina did feel guilty for using her but she could not change her plans now. Altering them was acceptable and of course she would not hurt him like she had initially planned to but she was not going to give up her true desires for this momentarily happiness and relief that Elijah’s presence gave her.
She was still going to use him to get closer to her enemies, Marcus, Caroline, and William especially and destroy them all to ashes. It was going to be really painful for Elijah but he is better off without these fake people around him.
Herself, included.
