Chapter 83: [83 – Unraveling Secrets – II]
Asher sat down on the chair opposite to Seraphina, the tension in the room palpable and the air around them seemed to be getting thicker, denser.
“Asher, what is it? What more have you found out?” asked Seraphina, her voice was steady but there was an underlying tremor to it that Asher did not miss.
“Well, let’s finish this Katherine story first. So, now we know that Katherine was the one with whom Evelyn was in a relationship with and not Elijah. It started somewhere in the middle of 2017. Around that time, Elijah was still in Los Angeles, so Katherine used him as an excuse to continuously fly back and forth, acting as if she was missing her son but she went there only to meet Evelyn.”
Asher picked up one of the files that he had brought with him, opened it and gave it to Seraphina to have a look at it. The file contained various screenshots from Evelyn’s social media accounts, a couple of pictures that she had posted with Katherine and the caption that she had used for those pictures.
“These cryptic statuses and captions tell the whole story of their relationship. It started in 2017, sometime around June,” as Asher continued, Seraphina went through the print outs of the multiple screenshots that Asher talked about, “then about eight month of dating they got serious.”
“Got me chasing all those butterflies. Loving you has been my favorite adventure. Just the two of us – a forever thing.” Seraphina read a few of the captions from Evelyn’s social media posts.
“I know right! She seems to be like a normal young woman, happy to be in love. But whatever Katherine did to her, you can easily tell about her declining mental and emotional health by looking at these.” he pointed at the file in Seraphina’s hand.
“Things looked good for while but at some point in 2019 it became too painful for her.” Asher described as Seraphina continued to go through the posts, her heart sinking with each one.
“I don’t want you to cry, don’t want us to say goodbye.” Seraphina read more captions from the timeline that Asher was talking about, “Sad birds still sing. Another promise broken into two. But where are you my angel now, don’t you see me crying. I guess our story ends here, I deserved a better goodbye.”
Asher exhaled a deep breath, “The last one was the last thing that she posted on all of her social media accounts.” he informed, his tone reflected the pain that he was feeling. Seraphina looked up at him with sympathy in her eyes because he knew how it felt on loosing the one you love.
Moving his gaze away, avoiding to look into Seraphina’s eyes, Asher continued, “It was easy for Katherine to hide the affair because Elijah would never have suspected his mother was into girls. Blake was Elijah’s friend, and since they were doing business together, Evelyn was quite familiar with Elijah. That’s how she met Katherine. Elijah was busy with business, so he never doubted why Katherine and Evelyn spent so much time together.”
“I think either Evelyn wanted to make their affair public or Katherine just grew bored of her which led to the end of their affair. But whatever happened between the two caused Evelyn to loose her sanity and emotional stability because of which she ultimately committed suicide from the same hotel where she first met Katherine and shared a penthouse with her.”
Seraphina closed the file, her expressions hardening, “This Grayson family. They have already done so much damage to so many people, there seems to be no end to their crimes. I feel like there is so much more hat we do not know about these three families, and yet we have such a long list of their crimes and proofs against them!”
Asher nodded, “After discovering about this, I dug deeper into Katherine’s past, and present. As you must have already guessed, Evelyn was not the only girl she exploited for pleasure. There are more, but none of them are willing to talk or comment about Katherine. My men said that they all seemed too spooked when they took Katherine’s name.”
Seraphina rubbed her forehead with her fingers as if trying to soothe a headache, “I do not think that Elijah will be able to handle all these revelations in the small amount of time that we had decided on.” she was worried that Elijah might end up taking a wrong step like Evelyn did because of the mental and emotional torment that he would have to face once the truth about his so called family is revealed.
“Do you want us to slow down or -” Asher was curious to know how Seraphina would respond to his question.
“No.” was Seraphina’s immediate reply, “I care about him and yes, I would have to alter certain plans for him but that does not mean that I am going to slow down anything. We will proceed just as we had decided.”
Asher was satisfied with Seraphina’s answer, he smiled and handed Seraphina a second file, “This contains all the information that we could find on Blake. The guy is an orphan, his parents along with Evelyn’s died in a car accident. After that, Blake and Evelyn were taken in by Blake’s grandmother who passed away in 2014.”
“Blake and Evelyn had always been close, and she was more of his sister and a daughter instead of a cousin, which is why he was pretty devastated after Evelyn’s death.” Asher explained while Seraphina went through the contents of the file.
“So Blake is after Elijah because of Katherine?” Seraphina mused, “Looks like he wants to give Katherine the same pain he felt when he lost Evelyn.”
Asher nodded in positive, “That is what I was thinking. Blake’s actions are absolutely driven by revenge.”
The weight of their discovery hung heavy in the air. Seraphina and Asher knew that they had to act fast and capture Blake at the earliest. They could understand his emotions and need for revenge but he should not target an innocent person to satisfy his desire for revenge.
“What about Blake’s involvement in the cases against Elijah?” asked Seraphina.
“We are looking into it. Just give me a few days to gather substantial proof and all the information that we missed the first time.” informed Asher to which Seraphina just nodded in response.

Meanwhile, Blake was sitting on the makeshift bed in his dimly lit, rented apartment. He was staring at the wall that was full of Elijah’s pictures that he had been taking since that incident years ago. In the middle of it was a picture of Seraphina.
With cold and calm expressions on his face, and a sinister smirk curling upon his lips, he muttered to himself, “I am so sorry Seraphina. I know that you are innocent and that you did nothing wrong but you have to die.”
He picked up a dart, twirling it between his fingers, “The only mistake that you committed will now cost you your life. You should not have chosen to be with Elijah. Why did you not chose any other man? See, you have left me with no choice but to kill you. After all, my sister, my Evie, was innocent too, but she died because of Elijah. Now, you will die because of him too.”
Chuckling, he threw the dart at Seraphina’s picture, the dart landing on it’s target, “He took the person that I loved the most in the world from me. Now, I am going to do the same to him. Tit for tat.”
His eyes burned with a mixture of sorrow and anger. Blake opened his wallet and opened it. Taking out the photograph of Evelyn that he always kept with him, he whispered, “I am so sorry, Evie. I could not protect you, but I promise, I will make them pay.”

At his private beach, Elijah sat alone on the golden sand staring at the rhythmic lapping of waves against the shore, the soft sound so produced doing nothing to calm his restless heart. His eyes, usually so sharp and decisive, were now distant and unfocused as he stared at the tranquil expanse of water that stretched out before him.
The calmness of the sea was a stark contrast to the turmoil, the whirlpool of emotions within him. Yesterday’s conversation with his father continued to replay over and over in his mind. The revelations that his father had made when Elijah had asked him about the reason behind helping Daniel played in a never ending loop in his mind.
He was still upset with his father and was not able to believe what he had been. He wanted to confirm the whole truth before saying or doing anything. And for this he needed to talk to Mia first because she is the only person who could give him the confirmation that he needs.
