Chapter 87: [87 – Crossroads]
It did not take much time to Elijah to fall asleep. He had not only been physically tired but because of the recent events, he felt emotionally drained and exhausted as well. All he needed right now was Seraphina to be by his side so that he could sleep peacefully knowing that she was here, in front of him. Safe and sound.
He was asleep the moment his head hit the pillow. The rhythmic sound of his breathing filling the quiet room. Seraphina, unable to move her gaze away from Elijah, just laid there by his side, holding his hand in hers. She kept on looking at him feeling guiltier by every passing second.
She was not feeling so because of her revenge. That is something that she would never stop aiming for anything or anyone. She was feeling guilty of hurting an innocent soul who had no part in what happened to her, her family, and all the other crimes that his family members committed.
Elijah’s only fault was that he trusted too easily, her gave out love unconditionally without checking it first if the other person is worthy of that love or not. He was not a fool, nope. He was simply a good man.
Seraphina let out a sigh and leaned forward to place a kiss on his forehead, her lips lingering there for a few seconds before she pulled back and gently rubbing the lipstick mark off his skin using her thumb.
Along with guilt, she felt sympathy for Elijah for having parents like Marcus and Katherine, and siblings like Ethan and Chloe. It was a wonder that a man like Elijah was a part of such disgusting family. He was like that lotus flower that blooms in mud.
Seraphina began running her fingers through his hair, scratching his scalp lightly with her fingernails. The sweet moment was disturbed by the buzzing sound coming from her cell phone. Making an annoyed face, Seraphina turned on the bed to pick up her cell phone and noticed that she had received a message from Jaxon.
The message read – ‘I need to talk. Meet me at the café near the office.’
She sighed, feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders. With reluctance, she left Elijah’s hand and stepped down the bed. She went to the washroom to freshen up and after she came back, Seraphina grabbed a pen and paper and began writing a note for Elijah.
Something urgent came up so I have to leave. There is food in the refrigerator, eat some of it when you wake up along with a glass of juice, alright!
I will try to be back soon but till then, I’ll miss you. ❤️
She only wrote that because she was worried that Elijah might panic after not finding her there and the heart that she drew at the end was just an extra touch while acting to be a happy and in love girlfriend in front of him.
Leaving the note at the bedside table, Seraphina placed Elijah’s phone over it before she slipped out of the house, her footsteps light on the cool floor.

The drive to the café was supposed to be routine, but halfway there, Seraphina felt the familiar resistance of the brakes give way. Panic surged through her veins as the pedal sank to the floor with no response. The car continued to accelerate, and she realized someone had tampered with her vehicle.
“Damn it!” she muttered, cursing herself for not checking the car before leaving. Her training kicked in, and she scanned her surroundings, looking for a way to stop the runaway vehicle with minimal impact.
Spotting an empty stretch of road, she decided to act. She shifted the car into a lower gear, hoping to reduce speed. The engine roared in protest, but it slowed her down a bit. Next, she gently applied the handbrake, careful not to lock the wheels. The car swerved, but she held it steady, guiding it toward a grassy embankment on the side of the road. The soft earth cushioned the car’s descent, and it finally came to a shuddering halt.
Breathing heavily, Seraphina checked herself for injuries. Only minor wounds – scrapes and bruises, nothing serious. She had been trained for situations like this before entering the battlefield for her revenge. Fools were those who thought that she would not prepare for situations like this.
The only wound that might require stiches was at her forehead. She winced as her fingertips came in contact with the spit flesh but relief washed over her because she had survived. If she had died, her revenge would have died with her. The relief for her life was because with her, her revenge also survived. But it was quickly replaced by anger.
Seraphina wondered, ‘Who could be behind this?’
Her mind immediately went to Daniel. Could he be trying to eliminate her again? And maybe this time he did not want to be dragged back to the jail like before so he tried to make her murder, her death look like an accident. As she pondered, she noticed a car in her side view mirror. It had been following her, and now it stopped a short distance away.
After years of training, Seraphina had mastered the art of being alert about her surroundings even in dangerous and panic stricken situations like this. That is why she was able to notice the car following her despite her being stuck in a life and death situation.
Seraphina stopped moving as she noticed the man who just stepped out of the car. Blake Anderson. She frowned, wondering why the hell was he here.
Thinking quickly, Seraphina slumped over the steering wheel, feigning unconsciousness. She kept her breathing steady and her muscles relaxed as Blake approached, waiting for the right opportunity, the perfect moment. As Blake leaned in to check if she was alive or not, his face close to hers, Seraphina took him by surprise.
In a flash, Seraphina grabbed his hand, twisting it sharply. Blake yelped in pain, but she gave him no time to recover. She kicked the door open, knocking him back, and sprang out of the car.
Blake was a formidable opponent, but Seraphina was better. She dodged his punches with ease, countering with swift, precise strikes. Her fist connected with his jaw, and he staggered. He tried to grapple her, but she slipped out of his grasp, delivering a knee to his stomach.
Blake swung wildly, but Seraphina ducked under his arm and delivered a sharp blow to the side of his neck, just under his ear. He collapsed, unconscious before he hit the ground. Seraphina quickly tied his hands and feet with the rope she kept in her car for emergencies, gagging him with a cloth from her bag.
She dragged Blake to his car, grunting with the effort, and stuffed him into the trunk. Taking a deep breath, she got into the driver’s seat and called Jaxon. After a few rings, he answered the call, “Hello? Sera?”
“Change of plans, Jaxon. I am not coming to the cafe, you have to come to the warehouse instead.” Seraphina looked at the state of her wound through the rear view mirror, her nose scrunching up looking at it.
“What happened? Why the warehouse? Is -” Seraphina did not have the time to answer Jaxon’s questions so she interrupted him and said, “Call up a doctor there, one who can stitch a wound. I am bringing a parcel with me.” she said before ending the call and drove towards the new meeting place, a deserted warehouse they used as a hideout.

Jaxon was waiting with the doctor by his side when she arrived, his eyes widening in shock at her disheveled appearance.
“What happened?” he asked, rushing to help her out of the car but Seraphina did not let him. She stepped out of her own while the doctor rushed over to his makeshift station and began prepping his medical tools.
“Blake Anderson happened.” she replied tersely, wincing as he treated her wounds. Seraphina went to sit on the stool beside the doctor’s makeshift operating table and added, “I am not sure why he tried this with me when we clearly believed that he was after Elijah.” she mumbled not paying attention to Jaxon.
“He is the boot of the car. Take him out and you know what to do.” she told Jaxon while the doctor told her to lie down on the operating table so that he could administer general anesthesia and begin stitching the nasty wound on her forehead.
“I do not need anesthesia, doc. Just stitch it up.” responded Seraphina. The doctor looked shocked but he did what he was told to. Meanwhile, Jaxon went and secured Blake in the warehouse, ensuring he was tightly bound.
Seraphina winced as the needle pierced her skin, but she remained stoic, her mind already racing with plans. She could hear the muffled sounds of Blake struggling and cursing in the distance, but her focus was on the mission ahead.
