Chapter 88: [88 – Captured by Darkness]
Seraphina winced as the needle pierced her skin, the thread pulling the wound closed. She held onto a stress ball while the doctor stitched the wound on her forehead without administering anesthesia. It did hurt but the pain was tolerable in comparison to what she had faced in her life so far.
Her experiences had taught her to not trust anybody easily, that is why even though she was at her own hideout, surrounded by guards that she had hired, Jaxon who shared similar goals as her, Seraphina did not agree to be put under anesthesia because she could not trust them completely.
She was ready to bear this pain but not the pain of betrayal. Seraphina focused her thoughts on her plans of revenge. She begin going through them in her mind trying to distract herself from the physical pain that she had chose to bear.
The sterile scent of antiseptic, the faint metallic tang of blood, the stress ball in her hand, everything was able to distract her and keep her focused at the same time. The doctor working on her wound was very efficient, he worked on her wound with steady hands despite knowing the fact that he was working on a patient without anesthesia.
Meanwhile, Jaxon continued to watch the scene in front of him, his arms crossed in front of her and stormy gaze fixed on her. He waited till the medic completed stitching Seraphina’s wound.
The medic then covered the freshly stitched wound with a medicine soaked bandage before wrapping a fresh one around her forehead, “What is it?” asked Seraphina while looking at Jaxon with heavy eyes.
Jaxon looked back at her, his jaw clenched tight and hands balled into fists at his sides. He wanted to talk to Seraphina about Chloe but seeing her injured after probably being attacked, Jaxon decided to postpone the matter for a few days. He had been able to handle it till now, he could do it for a few more days.
“Did you just call me to give me silent treatment?” asked Seraphina, her voice reflecting the same annoyance as on her face.
“You have to change the bandages a few times, and avoid getting it wet. I have noted down a few more instructions along with the medication details. Here.” the medic handed Seraphina the prescription slip before taking his leave.
So?” Seraphina asked while staring at him into the eyes as she folded the prescription and put in her handbag.
“I can’t keep doing this, Seraphina.” Jaxon exclaimed in a low but firm voice.
She looked up, noticing unmistakable fire in his eyes that represented a barely restrained fury that had been simmering for far too long. Jaxon was a man on the edge, and Seraphina knew it. She kind of hand an idea of what this was about.
“Doing what?” she asked, though she already knew the answer.
“Pretending.” he spat, the word laced with disgust, “Pretending to be nice, sweet, and interested in Chloe. It physically hurts me, you know, to be so nice to the woman who is responsible for Vivi’s miseries. Every time I have to smile at her, it feels like a betrayal. I want to tear her apart, Seraphina. I want to make her suffer like she made Vivi suffer.”
His voice cracked with emotion, and Seraphina saw the deep pain in his eyes. Vivi had been more than just a girlfriend to Jaxon, she was his one and only, his one true love that happens only in a lifetime, someone he had vowed to protect and love and care for forever. Seeing her broken by Chloe’s cruelty had killed all the goodness inside him and now, only revenge remained.
Seraphina stood up, scratching at her bandaged forehead, careful to not aggravate her wound. She crossed the room to stand in front of Jaxon, placing a hand on his arm. “I understand, Jaxon. Believe me, I do. But you have to trust me when I say that it’s not time yet for Chloe to face her punishment. There’s a bigger plan at play, and we can’t afford to act rashly.”
He stared at her, his eyes searching hers for something, an answer, perhaps, “Then when?” he demanded, “How much longer do I have to wait? It’s been -”
“Not long,” Seraphina said, interrupting him, “In the meantime, there are others on whom you can unleash this wrath of yours on.”
“Who?” asked Jaxon.
Seraphina smiled at his, “We have found the location of the remaining three men who exploited and abused Vivi. They are being brought to you as we speak. In fact, if I had not been busy with -” she stopped mid sentence, not wanting to tell Jaxon about Elijah’s truth yet.
“Soon, they will be at your mercy, and you can do with them as you see fit.” she added quickly.
Jaxon’s expression shifted, a dark satisfaction creeping into his eyes that was unlike of what he used to be, of what Chloe thinks him to be, “So I can play?” he asked, his voice cold and resolute.
“As much as you want, but remember Jaxon” smiled Seraphina while patting him on the back.
“I’ll make them wish they’d never been born.” Jaxon promised, more to Vivi than to himself and Seraphina.
Seraphina nodded, feeling a wave of dizziness wash over her. The effects of her wound and the adrenaline she had experienced during the accident, catching up to her, but she forced herself to stay focused. “Take out your frustration on them, Jaxon. But remember to not touch Chloe till I tell you to. Her time will come, and when it does, I promise you that she would not escape the consequences.”
He inclined his head, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly. “I will hold off, for now. But she’s mine when the time comes.”
Seraphina chuckled, “I wouldn’t have it any other way. She is more of your culprit than mine so you get to decide and deliver the punishment.”
The room swayed slightly, and Seraphina felt her knees weaken. Jaxon’s hand shot out to steady her, concern replacing the anger in his eyes. “You need rest, Seraphina. Let me take you home.”
She nodded, too tired and dizzy to argue, “Make sure the guards know to keep a close eye on Blake. I don’t want him escaping.”
“I will.” Jaxon assured her, guiding her out of the room and to his car.

The drive home was quiet, Seraphina was trying to stay awake, fighting her deepening exhaustion. Jaxon glanced over at her every so often, his concern evident, but he didn’t push her to talk. He knew his limits. By the time they arrived at the house, Seraphina was barely holding on to consciousness.
The only stopped at the chemist shop to grab all the medicines that the medic had prescribed to Seraphina.
After they reached her home, Seraphin bid him goodbye and walked inside the mansion taking slow steps, careful not to slip or collide with anything. Instead of going to her room, she went to the guestroom where Elijah was still asleep.
A smile curved upon her lips at the sight. Seraphina the quietly changed out of her blood-stained clothes and take the medicine that she had been prescribed. Later slipped into bed beside him. As she lay there, the events of the day replayed in her mind, particularly Blake’s attempt on her life.
She wondered about why Blake would target her. The more she thought about it, the more it troubled her. Blake had seemed so pleased with himself when he believed she was dead. Did he not want to hurt Elijah to ultimately hurt Katherine for all that she did to his sister, Evelyn?
The questions swirled in her mind, but her body was too exhausted to keep up. The medication was pulling her under, and she knew she would not find any answers today. She made a mental note to interrogate Blake further, but for now, she allowed herself to succumb to the drowsiness.

As Seraphina drifted off to sleep, miles away in an unknown location, Blake was waking up to a nightmare. His eyes fluttered open, and panic set in when he realized he was tied down and gagged, unable to move. The last thing he remembered was Seraphina hitting him.
Blake had naturally assumed that Seraphina would hand him over to the police once she caught him after that fight that he had not expected to loose.
But this was not it. This wasn’t a police station.
In fact, this seemed to be something far worse.
He strained to see his surroundings, his heart pounding in his chest. The room was dark, and the only sound was the faint creak of a door opening. His breath caught in his throat as a figure stepped into the room, their face hidden in the shadows.
“Someone told me we have got a new parcel.” he heard a voice speak, dripping with malice.
Blake’s eyes widened in terror as the figure approached, the realization dawning on him that Seraphina was not the woman he had assumed her to be. She was a monster too, just like the man she loved and cared for so much.
