Chapter 91: [91 – A Deal]
“There was only his mother, Katherine by his side when -” he stopped mid sentence realizing what Asher was trying to imply. Blake’s eyes widened as he recalled that night years back when Elijah had invited them to his mother’s birthday who was visiting him during that time.
As Elijah did not live with his family, and was raised by his grandfather, his parents and other family members, especially his mother used to come visit him whenever the could. His father would come meet him once or twice a year considering how busy he himself was.
His siblings visited more often, Ethan especially, and Blake remembered telling Evelyn, warning her to stay away from Ethan because every time that they met Blake would often feel negative vibes coming from Ethan, especially because of the way Ethan would look at Evelyn.
The only person that visited Elijah more often was his mother and Blake could understand the motherly love. He recalled how Katherine would treat Evelyn so nicely, like her own daughter. How Katherine would take Evelyn out for shopping, dinner, sightseeing and other things because Elijah was always busy with work and so was he.
Blake had always trusted Katherine with Evelyn. He remembered spotting Katherine and Evelyn in a restaurant once when he saw Katherine hand feeding the food to his sister. But on seeing them, the only thought that had come into Blake’s mind was that the two women looked like a pair of mother and daughter.
He remembered being very happy that his Evie finally got to experience the motherly love that both of them had not been lucky enough to experience in their lives.
The changes in Evelyn were unmissable. She looked really happy and cheerful than before. Not only that, Blake often found her daydreaming about something, caught her talking someone on phone a few times in that lovey dovey tone that people used with their partners.
Blake had an idea that she was dating someone and that she was really happy with this guy but he did not know who it was. He remembered all the vain attempts at trying to get her to say the name of the person that she was dating. When he had finally confronted her about it, the only thing that Evelyn admitted to was that she was dating someone and that they wanted to keep it a secret for sometime as the person she loved was facing some troubles in their life.
But she did not tell him the name of the person. And apparently not even the gender.
The memories of Katherine’s birthday party are still vivid in his mind. After all, it was the day when he had gotten to know that his friend and business partner was in a relationship with his sister. Blake not only trusted Elijah but also believed him to be a good man which is why when after months of asking her about it, when Evelyn pointed in Elijah’s direction to show him the person that she was in love with, Blake had felt ecstatic!
Evelyn had not specifically said Elijah’s name, she had just pointed in his direction. But it was not Elijah after all. At that moment, Elijah was dancing with his mother and only the two of them were on the dance stage, while everybody was just sitting at their tables, letting the mother and son have their moment.
Never in a million years could Blake have imagined that Katherine was the one whom Evelyn was in love with, in a relationship with. Only if he had asked Evelyn if it was really Elijah then perhaps they would have been able to avoid all that followed.
Perhaps, he would have been able to stop Evelyn from committing suicide. But he could not and now, after trying for years to kill Elijah, to have him go through the same pain as he was going through, this new revelation shook him to the core, destroying everything that he had believed so far,
If he goes by what Asher was implying, then Elijah was not the one who pushed Evelyn to commit suicide. Elijah was not the one who exploited his Evie, he was not the one who abused her, he was also not the one who betrayed her.
It was someone else.
Katherine Grayson.
Seeing the change of expression on his face, Asher informed, “It was not Elijah whom your sister was in love with, Blake.” his words causing Blake’s eyes to widen in horror, his heart to almost stop beating.
“It was Katherine. Katherine Grayson, Elijah’s mother.” Asher informed. He had been observing Blake as the realization dawned upon him. Asher decided to keep quiet for a while and just let Blake process the whole situation first.
He now understood why Blake tried to hurt Seraphina today. Everything was just because of a misunderstanding. Blake had misunderstood Elijah, just as he, Seraphina, and Madison had. In that moment, Asher not only felt sorry for Blake but for Elijah as well.
God knows what evil deeds he had committed in the past life to be born into such a disgusting family. Asher sighed, and told the guards to call for the doctor to treat Blake’s wounds. As he no longer was their enemy. In fact, his agenda seemed to be perfectly aligned with theirs.
Meanwhile, Blake was having a hard time registering the shocking information in his brain. He was clearly able to see all those incidents and situations in a new light. The way Katherine used to touch Evelyn, hug her, smile at her, take her out, and act so intimate, it wasn’t a mother-daughter bond after all.
The woman, who in Blake’s eyes was like his own mother, now felt like a dangerous predator whom Blake had welcomed inside his home. A wave of pure, unadulterated horror washed over him as everything just changed within a matter of few minutes.
Blake could not help but vomit when he recalled how often he would leave Evelyn with Katherine when he had to go out of city or out of country for business purposes. The thought of all the things that Katherine would have and could have done to Evelyn to cause his sister so much mental stress, and degrade her mental and emotional health to such a point that Evelyn committed suicide.
What horrors that penthouse must have seen where Evelyn lived and spent most of her time with Katherine.
Asher watched Blake with pity as threw up rather violently. It must have been hard for the man who had loved his sister as much as Asher loves Seraphina, to even think about all the things that his sister must have gone through.
Blake’s situation, his misery reminded Asher of his own past. The past where he could do nothing to help Seraphina and could only watch her being abused. The past who still haunted him in the form of nightmares, he often dreamt about the situations where he did not reach Seraphina on time and could not save her.
That was the difference between their situations. Asher was able to save Seraphina but Blake could not save Evelyn.
“I know, it is a lot to take. If you think that I am lying, I have the evidence to prove my claim. If you want -” Asher politely offered but was interrupted mid sentence when Blake roared and pushed himself up in a sitting position despite the pain and the bleeding wounds, “You have evidence?”
Asher knew what Blake wanted but he could not give Blake the details of what made him gather the evidence and if he had it then why he had not shown it to the police. If he was to show Asher those pictures, Blake would ask him for more details which he could not share with him right now.
Not at least Seraphina tells him to because giving Blake the inside information might risk their plans.

“Show me.” Blake demanded but Asher remained quiet. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and looked back at Blake with stoic expression on his face.
“Show me the evidence, Asher!” Blake spat, “I would do whatever you want me to do but just show me the evidence.”
Asher sighed and shook his head, he did not know what to do. But then Blake dragged his body towards him and clutched his leg, “I beg you, please! Just show me what you have and I would not ask for anything. I am ready to bear any punishment, I would not fight it but just please.” he begged and Asher was reminded of himself when he used to plead to William to not hurt Seraphina.
Sighing, Asher pulled his leg away from Blake’s hold and said, “Listen, I will show you the proofs only on one condition.”
“What?” cried Blake to which Asher responded in the same, firm tone that was laced with hints of threat and warning, “You would not ask any more questions.”
“Nothing. Not a single question, not even a word. Deal?” asked Asher to which Blake responded by a nod.
Asher sent a quick message to Seraphina, telling her about the situation here and what he was going to do. He hoped that she would understand his point of view. Also, Blake was still in their captivity, he was severely injured and Asher was not going to tell me anything else. So there was nothing that could go wrong here.
