Chapter 92: [92 – Storm on the Horizon]
Seraphina was relaxing, half sitting and half lying on the bed, surrounded by all the pillows that she had while Elijah sat beside her holding a tub of popcorn as they watched the latest Pokémon series episode. Though Elijah was initially against this plan for he wanted her to take as much rest as possible before she had to be back at the company, Seraphina managed to convince him otherwise.
She did have to argue with the mother hen that Elijah suddenly chosen to become, but when that did not help, she used her tears, and her sad, pouty face to have him agree to let her watch a few episodes of her favorite anime series before going to bed.
Seraphina had already slept so she was not feeling that sleepy and the wound was just very small in comparison to what she had gone through so she just did not care about resting. As they were watching the final battle scene, Seraphina got distracted by the vibrating buzz of her cell phone and the notification that she saw on her cell phone’s screen before it faded back.
It was a message from Asher. If it had been any other day, Seraphina would not have checked the message but today, she had sent her cousin, her brother to deal with Blake Anderson. The man who was trying to cause harm to Elijah and also tried to kill her.
Seraphina picked up her cell phone without acting strange, and was very casual about it even though her mind was alert and eyes sharp while she observed Elijah for any movement. Unlocking her cell phone, the first thing that she did was to lower the brightness of her cell phone.
She then opened the message application and clicked onto the message that Asher had sent her. There were not one but multiple messages that he had sent to her.
Blake had misunderstood the whole situation.
He was under belief that it was Elijah whom Evelyn was dating, and that it was Elijah who pushed her to commit suicide.
He did not know about Katherine and Evelyn being in a relationship.
Blake was being rather persistent about it so, I agreed to show him the pictures of Evelyn and Katherine.
But! Before you get mad at me, I made a deal with him. I am not going to tell him anything else, just show him the pictures to make him believe that it was Katherine and not Elijah.
You are understanding why I am doing this, right?
He kinda reminds me of me.
Seraphina locked her cell phone and put it aside before letting out a sigh. She closed her eyes and leaned her head back onto the pillows, snuggling deeper. Her actions made Elijah believe that she was finally feeling tired so he did not ask her anything and simply turned off the television.
But that was not the case.
Seraphina was not feeling tired. She was feeling anxious and worried about Asher and this situation with Blake. She could understand why Asher wanted to show Asher the proofs and it was so not because of Elijah. She knew what he must be feeling and what Blake must be feeling at this moment for the three of them were involved in quite similar situation.
She continued to pretend to be asleep. She kept her eyes closed and unmoving beneath her eyes lids so as to make Elijah believe that she was asleep. Seraphina made no movement even when Elijah leaned closer to place a gentle kiss on her bandaged forehead.
Not even when he tucked her in the bed and neither when he walked out of her bedroom, gently closing the door behind him.
Such a gentleman.
Only when Seraphina was sure that Elijah was no longer around did she open her eyes. Exhaling deeply, Seraphina adjusted herself on the bed, lying down on her side as she recalled the horrible memories that brought her and Asher together in this.
There was a time when she was in a situation similar to Evelyn. Though she was not betrayed in love but she did face betrayal from the ones who were like a family to her. She was held captive, abused, and used for their selfish purposes.
William, especially was the one who would hurt her the most.
He did tell her once the reason behind him going overboard with all the abuse; she looked like her father, he had told her. Seraphina remembered every slap, every punch, every kick. And she also remembered Asher watching his father hurt her.
Seraphina very clearly remembered Asher trying to protect her, trying to save her only to get beaten up by his father who considered his own son to be weak and pathetic. A loser, William used to call Asher all the time.
Asher had always loved Seraphina like his own sister, he always treated her with so much love and care and sometimes even fought with Chris and Nate, Seraphina’s brothers, when the two of them used to band together to tease her.
He was not just a cousin or a brother, but a bodyguard, a very dear friend, often times acted like a father figure to her. She could very well understand Blake’s rage and his helplessness for she had seen the same emotions in Asher’s eyes years ago.
Even know, she often found him looking at her apologetically for he could not stop his parents, and the others from hurting her. Seraphina knew that the reason why Asher must have agreed to show Blake’s those pictures and videos was because he saw himself in Blake.
Asher must have recognized and connected with the feeling of helplessness that Blake is suffering from so long because he was unable to help Evelyn in time. Asher must have seen his past self in Blake, the only difference being that Asher was able to save Seraphina in time but Blake lost his sister for forever.
The battered and bruised Caroline whose face was beaten to a pulp survived because Asher found her and called for help in time. He did not give up until the very end, thus helping Seraphina to emerge from the ashes of Caroline.
But, Evelyn was gone. And nothing that Blake would do could bring her back. The only thing that he could do now was destroy the person responsible for his sister’s death and so far he was doing a very bad job at that.

Not only was he mistaken about the identity of who was responsible for Evelyn’s degraded mental state and ultimately suicide, all the attempts that he had made did not give him the results that he was hoping for.
And for that, Seraphina was glad. Perhaps, God did help the innocent people for even after so many attempts on his life, Elijah is still alive. So is she.
Seraphina did not think about it much. She picked up her cell phone and wrote a response to Asher;
It’s okay.
I understand.
But nothing else, alright?
She received a very quick response within the next few seconds;
Okay, and thank you.
Seraphina smiled and placed her cell phone aside. She knew that Blake could not escape from their captivity so she did not have to worry about him going after Katherine, confronting her with the hardly containable rage that was definitely going to spill once Blake would see those photos and videos.
She mumbled a quick prayer for Elijah’s safety because by showing those photos to Blake, they were inevitably calling trouble for Elijah. Seraphina vowed to herself that no matter what happens she would not let anyone to hurt the innocent man. She turned off the multiple alarms on her cell phone before closing her eyes to sleep unaware of the storm that was about to be unleashed.

On the other part of the city, Asher’s lips curved up in a soft smile as he received Seraphina’s reply to his messages. He knew that she would understand him. After getting her approval, Asher told a guard to bring his laptop from his car and handed him his car keys.
While they waited for the laptop to arrive, their resident doctor came to treat Blake’s wounds. But Blake refused to get any treatment until he sees the proofs that Asher talked about with his own eyes. He wanted to be sure, he needed the confirmation.
The doctor did try to help Blake but the latter reacted so violently that the doctor did not make any further attempt. The guard whom Asher had sent to fetch his laptop came back carrying the device in his hands, “Sir.” he handed the laptop to Asher and moved closer to Blake.
Not only that guard but a few others stepped closer to both Blake and Asher, prepared for any situation that this revelation might cause.
Blake, on the other hand, watched Asher intently. He did not blink while Asher tapped a few keys on his laptop before turning the screen towards him, “Here, I think these are enough to prove it to you that it was not Elijah who caused your sister harm.”
Asher exhaled a deep breath that he did not know that he was holding as he handed the laptop to Blake for him to see with his own eyes and be aware of the truth.
