Chapter 93: [93 – Bleeding Heart]
Blake no longer felt the sting, the horrible pain that had enveloped him in it’s embrace because of all the injuries and wounds that Asher and his men had left on his body. Blood was still dripping through them and the longer he kept them untreated, the chance of an infection only increased.
But right now, nothing of that mattered to him. The only thing that was going on and on in his mind was to be sure, to finally see the proof and be absolutely sure that he had mistaken Elijah to be the culprit of his sister and that it was somebody else entirely.
Blake knew that what he was going to see, that whatever proof Asher had with him were not going to be easy to watch. They would for sure leave an imprint on his mind forever, making it harder for him to live because this time it was not just the guilt of not being able to rescue his sister that was going to trouble him.
The guilt of hurting Elijah who as per Asher had no idea of what was going around and the spark of pain that was burning his heart for using the woman he had told that he loved dearly only to use her against Elijah in this sick game, was definitely going to kill him for all that he had done in the past few years.
How would he continue living with the knowledge that in the madness of his revenge, he ended up hurting only the innocent people. But perhaps, this was the way of life. This was how revenge works, right? When you are set on a destructive path, there are meant to be causalities.
Elijah, Emma, and Seraphina were those causalities.
Asher exhaled deeply as he turned the laptop screen towards him and handed him the laptop to see the truth, the proofs for himself. Blake took the laptop from him and placed it on the table that the guards had brought along with the chairs for him and Asher to sit because, because they had broken the other chair by slamming it over him again and again.
Blake’s bloodied fingertips moved over the cursor pad, taking the cursor over to the first item, an image that was listed at the top in the folder that Asher had opened for him. Clicking on it, Blake waited for a few seconds for the photo to open up. Those 4 seconds felt nothing short of 4 lifetimes.
As the image of Katherine and Evelyn kissing each other intimately filled the screen, Blake immediate reaction was to avert his gaze. It was not that he was against the homosexual relationships. The image was actually a reminder of how he did not know his sister at all while he claimed to love her so much.
He did not know that she was into girls and that she was homosexual forget being aware of her relationship with Katherine, a woman who was more than twice her age and was not only married but had full grown kids as well.
“Blake.” Asher called out his name, bringing him out of the misery that had engulfed him just now at the thought about how little he knew about Evelyn.
Turning his gaze back to the screen, Blake continued to press on the ‘Next’ icon, looking at each and every image, watching every video file that were there on the laptop.
There were images of Katherine and Evelyn in semi undressed state, indulging into intimate acts, videos of them having sex and so much more. All these images and videos were self taken, mostly by Katherine whom he heard say that she was taking these videos because these would help not miss Evelyn when she would be going back home.
Blake did not hesitate to watch any video, he went through all the files without batting an eye. There was no reason for him to feel embarrassed. Evelyn was gone but her culprit remained. Blake continued to watch because he wanted every bit of proof against Katherine Grayson.
And as Asher had said, they had enough proof to get Katherine jailed for the emotional and mental abuse that she had Evelyn suffer through. There were videos where Katherine forced Evelyn to indulge in BDSM acts, treated her like Evelyn was not a person, not a human. It was disgusting and by the end of it, Blake could not hold it any longer.
He fell down on the floor, his body trembling as fresh pain seared through his already wounded flesh. A wave of nausea overtook him, and he retched violently as the images that he had just seen, the sound of Katherine’s evil, sadistic, and heartless laughter echoed in his mind.
The bitter taste of bile, and the guilt of holding someone innocent responsible for causing his sister’s death caused a burning sensation to envelop hi body. The room spun around him, blurring the edges of his vision but Blake forced himself to focus. This was not the time to lose consciousness.
He reached our, his fingers grasping the leg of the wooden table in an effort to steady himself. As he clung to the table’s leg, Blake’s mind raced, the images of Evelyn and Emma swirling inside his mind. He was not feeling bad for hurting Elijah. Yeah, the guilt was there because he had thought that Elijah was the culprit of his sister and the man behind his sister’s death.
But that guilt was not bigger than his revenge. The only other thing that troubled him at the moment after this revelation was Emma. The woman whom he had pretended to be in love, the woman who had truly loved him back, the innocent woman who died at his hands because she dared to go against him and have him arrested.
It bugged Blake greatly that he ended up hurting an innocent woman and became the same monster who he was fighting against. But isn’t that what you have to do, become a monster to fight a monster.
Blake willed his emotional turmoil to calm down. This was not the time to think about useless things like that. Tears blurred his vision as he forced himself to stand, his legs were shaky causing him to fall down a few times. But Blake continued to try, filled up with a renewed determination to complete his mission and get justice for his sister.
He could not let this break him, not now. Blake decided to take this revelation, the truth about Katherine and the horrors that he had just seen in the proofs and convert it into motivation. He was determined, more than ever to get justice for Evelyn.
He could not be there when Evelyn needed him. She had always needed him, and he had failed her again and again, not able to see through her happy and smiling facade, and always entrusting her into that monster’s company. It cost him, her life. But that was it. He would not fail her again.
With a deep breath, Blake wiped the bloody sweat and tears from his face, steeling himself for what he had to do next. Katherine would pay for what she had done, but more importantly, Evelyn would get the justice she deserved.
He stumbled back on the chair that he was sitting on earlier under the watchful and sympathetic gaze of Asher. He did not like to be seen by that kind of gaze, in that sympathetic light because he did not deserve it and could not tolerate it when Asher did not know how it actually feels like.
“I can understand what you are feeling in this moment. It is hard, I know but -” Asher tried to comfort Blake. He knew how much Blake needed that assurance because years back, he himself was in Blake’s spot and did not think that he needed that comfort until he actually received it.
Chuckling mirthlessly, Blake slammed his hand on the table but Asher remained relaxed, “You do not know anything!” Blake spat, “You do not know how it feels like to watch your sister, the only family member that you love so much, lie there on the road, body broken and twisted into horrible and inhuman angles surrounded by a pool of her own blood.”
“You did not watch life fade away from your loved ones eyes, have no idea of how it feels like when you loose the only person that mattered.” traitorous tears trailed down his anger filled eyes, ” So stop telling me that you understand how I feel. You won’t know until you actually go through it.”
Asher remained calm and composed and only sighed deeply as Blake snapped at him, “You do not know me Blake. You do not know what I have gone through.” he commented in a kind yet firm voice.
“I am saying that I know how you feel,” Asher stood up and gestured the doctor to step forward to treat Blake, “because I know. I have gone through a similar situation as yours, so I know.” these were the last words that Asher said to Blake before walking away.
