Chapter 13: Chapter 12 – Corrupted Father
After finishing his bath in the bathing pool, Lev wrapped himself in a towel and entered his bed room connected to the bathroom. Inside his room, several servants were already prepared to help him dress.
If this were his past self, he wouldn’t have felt anything. However, now, for some reason, he felt embarrassed even though all the servants were male. Perhaps, indirectly, the culture from Earth had influenced him.
He dismissed all the servants who were ready to help him change and entered the changing screen alone. When he opened the wardrobe, there were countless outfits to choose from. However, he opted for the simplest attire. He chose to wear a linen tunic underneath and a black cloak over it.
After putting on everything he needed, a knock echoed at the door. Lev, who had already stepped out from behind the changing screen, allowed them to enter.
Nanny Greda and Daria entered his bed room.
“Young Master. Your Coming of Age Ceremony is ready. Please proceed to the banquet hall now.”
“Alright.”
“From now on, Daria will be your personal maid. Do you have any objections?”
“No. That was my intention in bringing her. You can rest. Considering your age, you must be exhausted after showing Daria around.”
“No, Young Master. I didn’t take Daria around. I only changed her clothes and explained a few important things. Perhaps next time, you can show her around yourself.”
“Alright.”
“Then, I’ll take my leave now.”
With that, Nanny Greda exited first.
Lev looked at Daria. She had changed her clothes. Previously, she had been wearing plain, shabby attire, but now she was dressed in a maid’s uniform. Of course, it wasn’t the sexy maid outfit you might imagine. The maid outfit she wore was modest and tailored to fit her large frame.
Lev was slightly curious how Nanny Greda had managed to find a maid outfit that fit Daria’s size. But he quickly apologized to himself for thinking something so impolite.
“Let’s go. You just need to follow behind me.”
“Don’t worry, Young Master. Once the banquet starts, I’ll blend in with the other maids.”
Daria seemed confident.
Lev and Daria left the room and walked down the hallway. The other servants and maids who saw Lev being followed by Daria immediately began gossiping.
“Wow, is she the new maid?”
“Why is she so big?”
Perhaps because they were gossiping about a fellow maid, they didn’t seem to care whether Lev could hear them or not.
“Does it hurt your feelings to hear them talk like that?” Lev asked Daria.
“Hehe, it would be a lie if I said no,” Daria replied with a forced laugh. Her head drooped slightly as she walked. However, she still managed to mutter with a strange smile, “But, if I can keep looking at Young Master Lev, I can endure, hehe.”
Lev remained silent when he heard Daria say it was fine. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to offer words of encouragement or comfort to Daria; he simply knew such words were useless.
“Just wait.” Lev chose to respond with a mysterious remark.
It turned out the maids and servants—who were adjusting vases, wiping picture frames, and sweeping the floor—weren’t just gossiping about things happening within the mansion. They were also discussing the latest rumors circulating in the city.
“Have you heard about the mysterious disappearances?”
“I’ve heard about it too. People say many in the nearby towns have gone missing, and even some in Frostgard City have started disappearing.”
‘The case of mysterious disappearances, huh.’

A new quest appeared without him inviting it.
‘Why do I still have to investigate this?’
He already knew who was behind the disappearances.
‘It seems simply knowing the mastermind isn’t enough to complete the quest,’ he thought.
As he pondered the mastermind behind the disappearances, that person appeared before his eyes.
‘What a coincidence.’
The man stood in front of the door leading to the banquet hall. There was another entrance for external guests to enter the banquet hall. Since the man was standing in front of the door from the hallway Lev was coming from, it meant he was one of the residents of the Razanov family mansion.
“Hurry up and get inside!” the man commanded in a strong tone. He was Lev’s father and the head of the Razanov family, Andrei Razanov. You might think he was in his sixties, but in reality, he was only forties. His most striking feature was his unibrow—literally, a single brow—but Lev was more focused on Andrei’s height, which was now shorter than his own.
When speaking to Lev, Andrei didn’t seem pleased. His face was scrunched up, and his expression was sour. If this were his past self, Lev might not have questioned Andrei’s harshness and indifference, but now, he understood why Andrei treated him this way.
Inferiority complex. That was the mental illness Andrei suffered from.
Andrei Razanov was infamous as a useless noble among the noble circles. It was common knowledge that he was neither skilled with a sword nor adept at magic.
So, how did Andrei obtain the title of Duke? Of course, through inheritance.
However, all of Andrei’s siblings died while fighting over the title of Duke. As the last remaining member of the Razanov family, Andrei easily inherited the title.
Some might think Andrei deliberately stayed in the shadows to emerge as the final victor. However, this theory was easily debunked when considering that Andrei had failed to achieve anything noteworthy as the head of the Razanov family for decades.
Because of Andrei’s incompetence with one and the other, the sword and magic, he felt envy and resentment toward Lev. If Andrei were a sane father, he should have been proud of Lev’s swordsmanship and intellectual prowess.
Unfortunately, Andrei Razanov was not a sane father. Instead, he was jealous of Lev… ‘Maybe because he still dreams of becoming strong?’ Lev guessed.
Driven by his greed for power, Andrei used all the resources of the Razanov family to kidnap people. They were sacrificed by Andrei to forge a contract with a demon.
Lev still remembered how he found out about all this. At the time, Lev had already left the Razanov family and moved to another kingdom. Still, he heard the news about his former family. The story of his former family made headlines for weeks in the newspapers.
The reason was obvious—it involved demons, entities that were enemies of humanity.
‘With this quest to uncover or stop the mysterious disappearances, doesn’t that automatically mean I’ll have to confront or oppose my own family?’ He began considering this possibility. However, he shook his head and decided not to hesitate. ‘Since when did I consider them family?’
When Lev reached the door, two servants who guard the door immediately opened it, as if the person they were serving was Lev, not Andrei, who held the title of head of the Razanov family.
