Chapter 404: Surprise Freefall
Girls, will you stop making a fuss? It’s five minutes between shuttles for safety, I will be right behind you.” I said to the two of them. In order to not cause a scene, I thought it best I go on my own so that one of them can’t use it against the other in their current rivalry.
I could tell by the way the two opened their mouths that they were about to rebuttal, but I raised my hand and went. “Ah! That’s the end of it. Get in.” I said, with a sharpness in my tone that caused the two of them to not dare even breathe as they picked up their bags and hastily made it to the shuttle.
Once the door was shut behind them, by one of the Phalanx, I smiled satisfied. Considering I was usually quite nonchalant about things, when I raised my voice, it had a greater impact. As I watched them leave the hanger, I turned to the nearby general and thanked him.
“Ah, it’s no bother, my Archon. The blockade isn’t a siege after all. We are an Ecumenopolis after all. Our civilians have the right to travel between each planet. Especially so for VIP’s and even more so for a noble of your position.”
I smiled at the general, glad that my bullshit backstory actually snowballed into the effective tool it now was. The General and I then bantered for a short while, he mentioned how his wife was already overbearing and jealous, he couldn’t imagine coping with two. I chuckled and said. ‘Tell me about it.’ And was half tempted to say my wife count was technically in the trillions and one at the exact same time, though I suppose trillions and two since Kathrine tends to mumble as she rests in my Mindspace about wedding plans.
I suddenly felt a burning sensation in my mind at the mention of ‘two.’ However, I reminded Sol internally that we weren’t there yet and to not push her agenda too soon. “Huh? What’s that?” I suddenly heard and was pulled from my on the fly meditation.
Turning to the general. He had his finger on an earpiece as he was nodding his head. “Understood, I’ll inform the Archon.” He then turned to me and relayed what information he had just been informed.
“My shuttle landed at the strip, but on its descent, it began to take some pot shots from the southern gangs. I am willing to postpone the shuttle for a short while if you wish to wait for a safer time my Archon. What do you think?”
I raised my hand to my chin in thought for a moment before I turned his question onto himself. “What do you think General? I am willing to wait, but if you trust your troops to handle some pot shots, I am fine with descending. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been shot at after all.”
“Ah.” The general made a slight noise with his mouth. He had mistaken the tree in front of him for a civil noble. He was glad to be wrong and that the Archon seemed to have put his stature to use before.
“My men are the best at what they do, My Archon. Rest assured they will get you down safely.”
…
“Whoresons! The cheeky fuckers! Sending their ships into our space!” A man wearing a hide harness shouted to his lackeys. His orders from white death was to skirt the neutral zone of Lady Sophia and attempt to down a few ships so they could plunder. Things weren’t going too well and fearing the boss man would be disappointed in his results, a thought that sent more shivers down his spine then the actual coldness the boss radiated, he called in personal favours from some smugglers and got himself a present.
“You! Fuck-knuckle! How long until It is up and running?” He screamed at one of his ‘smarties’ who replied nervously. “T-the weapons guidance systems are ready to go, we can target the very next ship.”
The man smiled evilly at this piece of news. “Then what are you waiting for Fuck-knuckle? A kiss from your uncle? A ship is descending. Blow that piece of junk out of the sky!”
…
About thirty miles up, we had been descending for a couple of minutes in silence when all of a sudden, the inside of the shuttle began blaring red as the pilot began yelling through the headphones. “SAM! SAM! SAM! We have no defenses for missiles, brace for impact!”
The shuttle was too slow and bulky for evasive maneuvers so hoping they could tank the hit was the only choice the pilot had. Suddenly as I was looking around slightly confused, one of the soldiers grabbed me by the shoulder and exclaimed at the top of his lungs.
“Archon! Put this on! Should the worst come to, Pull this-” Before the Soldier could fit the parachute onto my being, a large hole opened up in the front of the shuttle, pulling everything that was stupidly not buckled into their seats out…
After being shot out by the pressure change, I began to freefall and slowly crossed my arms in annoyance as I did so. ‘Well, this is definitely not how I expected my day to go…’ I thought to myself while I began to wait for the ground to get closer.
Twenty minutes later, I could start to make out more intricate details on the ground and started using my Gyrokinesis to make myself lighter. I decided against making myself heavier on the descent to increase the time, because I found out on our recent hunting ground that it was much harder to counter the force when in descent for some stupid reason. A reason my knee had suffered for upon landing.
Deciding to spare my knee this time, I simply waited and was now slowing my descent to the point where my landing, while still a little rough, was manageable beyond belief. As I straightened out my jacket and swept back my dishevelled hair, I looked around only to see ruin.
“Jeez, it’s like an apocalypse movie here.” I couldn’t help muttering. Looking off into the distance, I spotted a billow of smoke that was significantly darker than the other billows of smoke in my perceptual vicinity.
I took the moment to thank myself for having Orchid be my pack mule and carried all my stuff with her. I had some very important items in my bags after all. ‘Hmm.’ I hummed to myself in thought as I looked around.
I found myself with a little bit of luck after being shot out of a vehicle. The sun was at its zenith for the day. I could use that to my advantage as I now knew which way was north and then began my stroll through the lovely neighbourhood.
…
“Ah, welcome back you two. Keyla, you are alive? I’m glad. That means The Queen is fine with my little loyalty change.” Onyx said as the two made their way over to her.
“Wait what?” Keyla said confused, causing Onyx to wave her hand. “Oh don’t worry over the little things. I was just making sure I could continue to exist with my universe for eternity. I will never have to leave his side again now.”
Onyx had done a sneaky. Knowing Jewel’s temperament towards rogue entities within her hive. Onyx had sent her ally, whom she had told about serving the king instead of the queen of the hive instead. Considering Jewel would have definitely read the entirety of Keyla’s mind upon first meeting, including the discussion with Onyx on said matter, that meant she was perfectly fine with her rebellious stalkers little scheme.
Now she didn’t have to make excuses not to go back to home world and could truly be Apollo’s cloak and shield for the rest of time and beyond.

After the trio left the airport, Onyx led them to a ground vehicle with a driver waiting inside. “Shouldn’t we be waiting for Apollo?” Orchid asked, while Keyla was still processing the fact she had been made bait by Onyx.
Onyx turned to Orchid with a look of confusion before she remembered what she had forgotten. “Oh! Right. No need to wait. Apollo’s ship should be getting shot down any moment. Come on, we have to help prepare Apollo’s second return party. When I told Sophia when he would be back, she insisted. Her cult might have actually revolted if she didn’t. A truly terrifying thought if you think about it.”
Before Onyx could begin to think about the fresh shrimp buffet, her ears were almost perforated by the two bio forms in front of her shrieking.
“What did you just say!” Orchid and Keyla screamed in unison, causing Onyx to tilt her head to the side.
“What? You don’t want to help in the party planning? It actually has been quite a lot of fun- Oh, I just realised you were surprised by the whole ‘Apollo being shot out of the air’ thing… That is my fault, I haven’t been having many visions lately, I forgot I need to explain myself better.”
