The Innkeeper - Chapter 1504
Chapter 1504: Augur of Heaven III
Indeed, in his studies about various realms, he had learned that there existed various realms that were solely and specifically for beings so weak in power, that what humans considered as the mortal realm was akin to an overpowered Deity to them. Microscopic realms were not called so because they were tiny, though that was usually the case.
Instead, they were realms in which there existed races so weak, that only after attaining multiple realms of power, and overcoming something akin to a tribulation, could they enter normal realms by attaining powers akin to a mortal.
The races that existed in such realms were generally so weak, and so low on the Cosmic Ascendance Spectrum, that even normal humans were like mythical dragons to them.
“Well, basically, a Microscopic realm, to you, might appear incredibly tiny. Yet if you enter, you will discover that your size remains as it is in proportion to a realm. Similarly, when a race exits the Microscopic realm, they do not come out the size of bacteria. Instead they retain their proportional size as compared to a realm.
“The reason I’m telling you this is because… I want to tell you for sure that there really is a realm encompassed by the universe. But once you enter it, your size will remain proportional to the realm. Ironically, if you were to encounter the physical manifestation of a Major realm when you’re there, you might discover that it is no bigger than a pearl in your hands. Yet if you enter it, you will be even smaller.”
“How is it that I’ve never heard of something like this?” Lex asked. “This does not seem like the kind of secret that can be so easily hidden.”
“Like I said, this is both a great secret, and not so great a secret at the same time. To enter into the universe truly, there are two ways, both of which are equally impossible for most. The first is to break a fundamental law of the universe, creating a tear. This is truly absurd and almost unheard of. That’s like trying to break the tribulation one encounters while crossing a major realm – it is fundamentally impossible.
“The second way, and just as impossible, is to get the recognition of Heaven. Now, I don’t know exactly what it means to get the recognition of Heaven – if it can be any Heaven, or if Heaven in this case is even referring to the Heavens as we know them. But what I have heard is that anyone who completes a Heavens Guidance… receives an opportunity to become an Augur of Heaven, and thereby gain access to the universe!”
Lincaderoth said a lot unsaid, yet it was easy enough to understand. He was asking if Lex received such an opportunity. No wonder he was feeling so hesitant in asking Lex about this. It was highly inappropriate to ask someone such personal questions, especially about their cultivation.
“Oh yeah, there really was someone asking me to kneel and become an Augur at the end of my Guidance,” Lex confirmed. “I thought it was some kind of job offer, and seeing as how I am quite content with my current employment, I turned it down. Not to mention, I’m not a huge fan of kneeling in front of others.”
“You-” Licanderoth was visibly stunned, his jaw hanging open and his usually silky, golden hair rising up into the sky as if he had been electrocuted. He held his finger up to point at Lex, yet even his finger was crooked, for he couldn’t find it in himself to actually point at him.
“How could you turn it down? Didn’t you at least ask what it was for? Didn’t you feel the tremendous opportunity in front of you? Surely anyones natural instincts would yearn for the true universe.”
Lex simply shrugged.
“I didn’t feel anything particularly special. You have not explained to me why any of this is relevant. You said you wanted to ask another thing of me. Are you saying that a way to combat the HOA lies in the true universe?”
“Yes, and more than just that. Once you enter the true universe, many impossibilities become a possibility. Unfortunately, that is both a boon and a curse, which is why Dao Lords also refrain from going there-”
Lex suddenly felt a suffocating feeling, as if the pressure of the universe was bearing down on him, and he knew that he had reached his limit. He immediately created a barrier around himself, isolating himself from Licanderoths words lest that hear something more.
The little he had learned already gave him plenty of food for thought, though he was not surprised that the universe held more secrets than he could imagine. How many more secrets would he learn over the years? How many truths would he learn?
It was actually kind of exciting – if only the topic of conversation wasn’t about her and what he could do to kill her.
“Let’s put the matter of being an Augur aside,” he said once Licanderoth stopped speaking and he lowered the barrier. “I already rejected it, and I doubt it would have come without its own set of responsibilities and limitations. What exactly do you want from me, and how can you help me get my revenge? As much as I would like to join the Seraphims crusade against the HOA, I have my own responsibilities that I need to take care of.”
Licanderoth sighed, as if he was the one who had lost an amazing opportunity, not Lex. But he knew how to restrain himself, so he quickly got to the matter at hand.
“There is a coalition of forces who act against the HOA at all levels, not just the Demi-Dao ones. Though that is near the peak of that organization’s strength, that does not mean they don’t have forces working at lower levels. There are many things that weaker cultivators can do that ones with higher cultivation levels can’t – especially in Minor realms.
“I want to invite you to join this coalition. There won’t be any obligation for you to act, but in any realm you visit, you will be able to see the coalition’s actions against the HOA, and possibly contribute if you wish. For now, this should more than suffice.”
