The Monster King's Legacy - Chapter 58
Chapter 58: Rallying Tribes Chapter 58: Rallying Tribes Following several minutes of convincing, mainly with ample proof in the form of all the well geared goblins and their nourished looks, the foreign goblins finally caved in after Lance offered them some food they brought with them, dried meat.
At that point, there was nothing the scrawny goblin could do.
He was the chief of this tribe, but even his own goblins had become willing to follow Lance, a human, after being offered food like that.
Not only that, the goblins with Lance were way too convincing of examples than nothing else.
Then again, once Lia was introduced, that was the final nail in the coffin, as they all agreed without much resistance.
The shaman seemed to be a strong connecting figure to the goblins.
As they discussed further, Lance made himself clear to the scrawny goblin.
“All of you will come under my tribe following this.
I don’t tolerate any betrayal, rebellion and laziness.
Any goblin found wanting of anything will face the consequences immediately.
Believe what you see.
Your lives will forever change from today, remember who has saved you today.” Lance said.
Even though he would normally not use such words and ideology, these were not civilized creatures as he had thought, they were worse than Lia’s goblin tribe by a noticeable bunch.
Using harsher and primal tactics was the way to go it appeared.
“Chief,” The scrawny goblin called to Lance.
‘He sure learns fast.
I hope that’s a good quality, not one that will cost me later.’ He thought to himself, glancing briefly at Lia, hoping her presence in his tribe would create the bonding factor it needs the most out him being a strong and capable leader.
“About knowing other tribes, I know a few.
They are not too far from here, we can pay them a visit.” “Very well, we will do so.” … As they visited other goblin tribes, the process repeated itself with other tribes.
Some were more skeptical, requiring Lance to demonstrate his leadership through displays of strength and dominance.
Others were so desperate for relief that they agreed to join after hearing of the food and safety his tribe could provide.
At one camp, Lance found a group of goblins who had been ravaged by a pack of wild beasts.
His healing magic saved several lives, and coupled with food the tribe pledged their loyalty without hesitation.
At another, their belligerent leader who refused to be subservient under another chief, and a human no less, challenged Lance to a duel, demanding proof of his worthiness to lead.
Rynne stepped forward, spear in hand, but Lance held her back.
This tribe was fairly well off compared o the rest, and didn’t seem to lack anything, so it was understandable that they would be hesitant.
The duel was swift and decisive, Lance’s agility and simple smarts overwhelming the Goblin.
When it was over, Lance introduced Lia and shortly after, the defeated goblin knelt before him, declaring his allegiance, and so did the rest of his tribe.
As the days turned into weeks, Lance accumulated numbers, it was already clear that his tribe was set to swell in numbers past what they had estimated originally, but it was exactly in line with his wishes and plans.
When it was time to make their way back, they brought with them not only two-hundred goblins to join their tribe, but also a lot of wild meat.

Unfortunately, as they had taken more time, the bodies of the boar and wolves they had left behind were all rotten.
In order not to let everything go to waste, they made sure to bring back the bones and hide.
Once they arrived at their camp, Lia already knew what was to follow.
She prepared a number of things, bones, incenses, and a number of other things, organizing a ritual for all the goblins to go through.
Just as they did to Dran’s tribe, it was the same.
It was a ritual that would not only “bless” them, but would hold them accountable to their loyalty.
Just as expected, it worked like a charm, despite it being completely fake.
All it did was give a mild soothing and healing feeling, but that was enough to trick all the goblins.
The new arrivals brought with them not just numbers, but fresh stories and perspectives, enriching the community in ways Lance hadn’t anticipated.
Kaeli for one worked tirelessly to equip the newcomers with adequate gear, something she seemed to enjoy well despite the stress involved, leaving her forge blazing day and night.
Of course, this also meant that Rynne and Zarra had more goblins to train in proper battle skills and strategy, the new warriors, integrating them into the tribe’s growing ranks.
Expansion of the camp began in earnest.
Now that the tribe was a little over three hundred in number, they needed more space to accommodate everyone.
Lance also had to set in a new rule he hadn’t thought about.
Apparently, following normal goblin culture, the strongest goblin got to be the default alpha male of the tribe and that meant only he could mate with all the females.
Normally, this goblin would also be the chief.
It was a rather animalistic and primitive way of thinking, but from an evolutionary standpoint, it worked well.
Now, Lance had no interest in mating with quite a number of the female goblins, those he had more than satisfied him.
He immediately put an end to that, allowing for any goblin to mate with another outside force.
Then again, he couldn’t say how desirable he as a human looked to the goblins.
‘No way I’m that down bad to clap cheeks.
These new goblins barely even look close to average, and their eyes…’ Lance thought to himself.
Their eyes had a red hue to them when compared to the golden colour of Lance’s original tribe and Dran’s predominately green coloured eyed tribe.
Red was very different and distinct, but when he looked at it more, his original tribe would be the odd ones out, and Dran’s tribe.
‘Lia and the rest even look more human-like in looks too, and they are even… brighter.’ Slowly, it came to him that there was a variation in species of goblins if nothing else, and at the moment, there had to be at least three different species… ‘well, this could also be some kind of nationality issue… disparity in bloodline if nothing else.’ He thought to himself.
It seemed a better explanation for the differences, unlike different species, at least, to him.
“Now that I think about it, the male goblins we had fought against also had similar eyes… hmm… it would make sense then, the other males killing the males of the other tribe to take their women…” Just then, Zarra approached Lance, taking a seat beside him.
“Eaten yet?” “Yes.
You and Rynne are taking the new ones out for some training, right?” Lance asked, as they continued discussing about different things, whiling away time.
As the camp’s activities settled into the night, Zarra leaned in placing her head in Lance’s chest.
“You look tired… let me lighten you up.” She said.
Lance smiled, kissing her lightly as he picked her up, “you little devil.”
