The Monster King's Legacy - Chapter 71
Chapter 71: Attack Begins II Chapter 71: Attack Begins II The battlefield was chaos-shouts and screams mingled with the clash of steel and the roar of beasts and the undead forces.
Though subtle, Lance began to notice something was off just as soon as the beasts rushed into the battlefield, further complicating things and making the situation even more difficult.
‘Something’s not right here… they’ve become less coordinated, more like, actual zombies.’ He thought to himself as he studied the battlefield laid out before him.
He had been holding off, observing, but it would seem like the enemy had abandoned the battle… something that didn’t make much sense.
“Our casualties are only increasing,” Lance murmured as he unsheathed his sword and prepared to join the fray.
There was no need to stay back anymore, it was useless.
He too was amongst the best fighters in the tribe, so instead of watching from afar, he had decided it was he also joined the fight physically.
Before joining the attack however, he went around to heal the goblins to get them back to peak condition.
… “What is going on?!
Everything is just falling apart!
If only you were faster.” The first cloaked demon said angrily… frustrated.
Despite his frantic state, the other hunched demon appeared calm and unfazed.
“And if only you did your job without playing around, I would have made the undead army sooner, and we wouldn’t have this problem.” “Khuk… W-whatever, there’s nothing we can do against such unprecedented odds.” The hunched demon’s eyes glinted with a cold light as he gazed at the road ahead, raising his head just enough for them to show.
“Right… I wonder why a dragon is all the way here.” … Elsewhere, amidst the forest on a high ground, a gigantic creature laid lazily, its tail curled around towards its head with its wings folded.
Without doubt, anyone who saw this creature would know exactly what it was, a dragon, no doubt.
The end of its tail swirled slowly over its nose, its eyes closed, ‘Why do I have to do something like this?
Gah!
I would protest… but… ah, its better that mother didn’t come back before I left.’ The dragon thought to itself, a low growl escaping its complaint filled mouth.
‘What do I do now?’ It thought to itself.
The dragon, being a young dragon, it wouldn’t be advisable for it to visit the human nations, it would be captured and made a familiar, or hunted.
The humans had a rather strange relationship with dragons.
Then again, there were several rules in place, so depending on the circumstances, the human wouldn’t be held accountable.
The elves on the other hand were more peaceful, but they were also a prideful race and wouldn’t be so welcoming.
‘I don’t like dwarves… that leaves… the lesser races… Mmm, they surely appreciate the presence of a dragon, right?
Mnn, mnn, this is what I will do.
That way, my work out here should be done without me doing anything.
Brilliant!’ It thought to itself, nodding its head lightly in a show of satisfaction.
… At the frontlines of the battlefield, Rynne proved to be a force of nature.
Her spear moved with blinding speed, each strike precise and devastating.
She fought with a ferocity that inspired the warriors around her, driving them to hold their ground even against the overwhelming strength of the beasts.

An orc charged her, swinging a massive axe, its speed accelerating towards the last moments, but Rynne sidestepped swiftly, driving her spear through its side and then to its head.
As it fell, two more orcs lunged at her, but she spun around, sweeping her spear low to chop out their legs to kill their balance and momentum before finishing them with swift, lethal attacks to sever their heads.
Her golden eyes burned with determination as she barked orders, rallying her warriors to push back the enemy.
“Don’t let them break through!” she shouted, her voice unwavering even as the enemy surged, the beasts proving to be a more energetic unit.
Behind the lines, Mira worked tirelessly, her hands glowing with healing magic as she tended to the wounded.
Lia who was now low on energy assisted her with the best of her ability.
Goblins with gashes and broken limbs limped to her, their faces twisted in pain, but Mira met them with calm efficiency.
“Gather them here,” she said, bringing a group of wounded goblins before using a wider range spell to heal them, her breath becoming lightly laboured.
The strain of constant healing was evident in the sweat on her brow, but she didn’t falter “Hold still,” Lia said gently, supporting her.
“Don’t overdo it.” “No, I have to.
Pass me the brew.” She said, pointing to a concealed concoction, her emerald eyes glimmering with determination as she gobbled down the herbal brew.
Just then, a goblin of their own collapsed close by and she had to handle it, there was no rest.
Though everyone worked in different areas of the battlefield, their efforts were interconnected.
High above the battlefield, Zarra and her scouting team moved swiftly, their arrows raining down on the enemies.
From her perch in the trees, Zarra surveyed the chaos, her sharp eyes picking out key targets in several locations.
“Focus on those orcs!” she ordered, nocking an arrow and letting it fly.
Her arrow struck true, sinking into the discoloured skin of an orc, though, there was no reaction.
“Cut them off.” She said, as her team descended like predators, abandoning their bows and arrows for the moment, striking quickly and retreating when the time was right.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, the goblins’ coordinated efforts began to overwhelm their foes.
By the time the last beast fell, the goblins stood victorious, their unity and strength shining brighter than ever.
The battlefield was quiet now, save for the groans of the wounded and low murmurs and orders.
The air was thick with the acrid scent of smoke and blood, but the goblins still standing knew they had achieved something monumental… the goblins had prevailed against impossible odds.
