Chapter 61: SAFE… OR NOT
“Haah… haa… haha,” panted all three of my teammates after enduring what could only be described as hell. The relentless hammering on the door had finally stopped as the sun had finally risen, and for the first time in hours, we could breathe a sigh of relief.
“Urgh…” A groan of pain pulled my attention. I turned to see Leon slumped against the wall, his face pale as a ghost, lips cracked and ashen. He looked like death warmed over. The venom coursing through his veins had drained him of strength, and it was clear he didn’t have much time left.
“That’s right!” Elena exclaimed, snapping out of her exhaustion-induced daze as her eyes locked onto Leon. “W-where’s your antidote?” she demanded, forcing her tired body to move. She was running on sheer willpower, knowing Leon would be too far gone to administer it himself.
“It… it should be… it…” Leon wheezed, his words incoherent.
Elena didn’t wait for him to finish. She began rifling through his pockets—the same ones we’d all had the potions in when we woke up here..
“Wait… what?” Her voice wavered, her hands coming up empty.
My stomach sank.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, already dreading the answer.
“I can’t find it,” she replied, her expression grim. “I think he lost his antidote.”
“Damn it, You idiot!” I snapped, anger boiling over. “How do you lose something as critical as an antidote?!”
“Shut… your… stinking… mouth… El,” Leon managed to rasp out. Despite his condition, he still had the gall to retort.
That’s some determination, I’ll give him that.
Elena sighed deeply, collapsing onto the ground to think. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily on all of us. Losing Leon— who was a strong fighter—on the second day would be disastrous. I’d seen him fight, and there was no denying his skill. He was far more valuable to the team than I was, and without him, our chances of survival would plummet.
I glanced at my watch:
[TEAM SCORE: 4000/20000]
We still had a long way to go before hitting the minimum score.
Elena sighed again, louder this time, and pulled out her own antidote. Without hesitation, she forced it down Leon’s throat.
Of course. She was a heroine, after all.
That innate kindness of hers was what set them apart. But not all heroines were cut from the same cloth. Take Eloisa, for example—that psychotic yandere. She was a heroine, sure, but she nearly killed any girl who dared get close to Lucas. The only ones who survived her wrath were either: one, as strong as Eloisa herself, or two, people Lucas valued so much that harming them would hurt him in return.
Everyone else?
Gone. Disappeared without a trace.
Come to think of it.
Renay.
Wait a damn second!
DON’T TELL ME RENAY WAS A YANDERE TOO?!
‘It seems the time has—’
No.
‘Wait. She is—’
Tsk.

That can’t be.
‘LISTEN TO ME, YOU BASTARD!’
I mean, she never had a reason to act that way. She said it herself—I wasn’t attractive. Why the hell would other girls even want to get close to me?
‘AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!’ A frustrated scream erupted in my head.
‘Shut up, Nelia! I’m thinking here.’
‘I can’t take it anymore…’
‘What…?’
‘Once this test is over, I’m putting an end to your stupidity.’
‘…Nelia?’
‘…..’
‘Fucking horny fairy.’
Speaking of Eloisa…
The novel never truly delved into why she was the way she was.
Even back when we were children and friends, I noticed her possessiveness—a trait that only worsened when she eventually became my fiancée. But the reason behind it? I never understood.
I tried asking her once, but she never divulged anything. After a while, I stopped trying altogether.
“Riley.”
A voice broke through my thoughts. I turned to see the purple-haired girl resting her head on my shoulder. Her violet eyes locked onto mine, their intensity unmistakable.
“What was that spell you used on them?” she asked, her tone curious yet insistent.
“It’s just elemental magic,” I muttered, holding out my palm. A faint purple flame flickered to life, dim and fragile, like a dying candle. It was a stark reminder of my drained mana reserves, which seemed to take an eternity to replenish—likely because this wasn’t a real world.
“But… that power,” she pressed, her brows furrowing in thought. “It felt like high-tier advanced magic or maybe even a bloodline ability.”
I couldn’t blame her for thinking that. The raw force behind the spell often surprised me too.
Elemental magic.
Advanced magic.
Celestial magic.
Divine magic.
Ascendant magic.
These were the recognized classes of spells, with each class divided into five tiers. Tiers one to three made up the lower levels, while four and five were considered the higher tiers.
But celestial-level magic? That was different. Only a select few could wield it without severe consequences. The strain it put on one’s mana pool was immense, and for those unprepared, attempting it could result in catastrophic mana pool combustion.
“It’s not that,” I said, shaking my head. “It’s just elemental magic.”
Still, even I couldn’t fully grasp why my version felt… different.
“You know what?”
“What?” she asked, her curiosity piqued.
“Why don’t we run a test? To figure out what’s going on.”
Her eyes lit up with excitement. “A test? What kind of test?”
“Do you know any elemental spells besides the Flames of Ephynia?” I asked.
“I know plenty,” she replied, a self-satisfied smile spreading across her face.
“Good. Do you know any related to light?”
“Of course,” she said confidently. Closing her eyes, she extended her palm and spoke, “Elemental magic: Eye of the Sun.”
A bright orb of pure white light burst forth from her hand, illuminating everything around us.
“Too bright,” I muttered, shielding my eyes. Out of the corner of my vision, I caught Elena glaring at me from behind.
What does she want now? No one asked her to sacrifice her antidote—did we?
As the light faded, the girl folded her arms, a smug grin plastered across her face.
“Happy?” she asked.
“Not bad,” I replied, taking a deep breath. “Alright, my turn.”
I focused on the scant amount of mana that had trickled back into my depleted reserves.
“Elemental magic: Eye of the Sun.”
But instead of blindly channeling the mana through my palm, I gripped my sword tightly, coating its edges with energy.
The blade began to glow, light streaming along its length until it reached the tip. And then—
“Oh, no,”
It shot forward.
A searing beam of light surged straight toward a certain someone who was already barely clinging to life.
“FUCK YOU, EL!” screamed Leon, who had just started to recover.
At this point, I felt like the bane of his existence.
