Chapter 105: Chapter 105 Can You Do it?
Others may say that Hera is being vindictive, but she understands that she’s only left with two choices now: either to let this slide or retaliate. She has keenly observed how Alice subtly attacks her, aiming to portray her in a negative light. While these attacks may be subtle, their impact is not lesser.
The other participants have already begun treating her differently, choosing to find fault with her simply because she appears to be living a better life than them in the show and because of the subtle taunts staged against her.
Hera doesn’t want to blindly say that she understands them and just forgives them. Now that Alice has rallied everyone to isolate her and think badly of her, why can’t she do the same?
The only difference is that Hera’s planned stage for Alice was grander, and the repercussions would be more painful than what Alice had prepared for Hera.
Hera wasn’t sure why Alice would turn against her now, especially when she hadn’t done anything against them yet. It could be due to a lingering grudge from Hera’s refusal to comply with her demands, the embarrassment Alice faced yesterday, or perhaps other reasons altogether. Maybe it was because of Hera’s closeness to Xavier, or a combination of all factors.
She opted not to dwell on the reasons behind Alice’s behavior, preferring to focus her mental energy on delivering a lesson or two instead.
While Hera values kindness and respect towards others, she refuses to be a doormat for anyone, having learned this lesson through past experiences, particularly with Alexi.
This time, Bry guided Hera to a field nestled further from the ranch, yet closer to the serene river flowing down from the nearby mountains.
An elderly man in his 60s came forward to give Hera a hoe while his other hand was resting behind his back. “Child, I know working in the field is hard and I hope that you can hang on there for a bit.” Then, with a defeated look, he sighed and continued. “You can just do what the previous girl did and just weed the side of the vegetables and rest when you are feeling tired. You can just treat this hoe as an accessory.”
Hera wasn’t surprised by the old man’s assumption that she might complain, akin to Minerva’s attitude.
Instead, she followed behind the old man. “Sir, I don’t plan to slack you know. How can I feed myself if I don’t work?” She even dramatizes her last sentence to appeal to the old man for a smile.
Sure enough, the old man turned around, looking at her up and down to see if she was trying to pull his leg or was seriously considering working in the field. “It’s not easy to work in the field, you’ll need to plow the land to loosen the soil, weed, and even fertilize using the dried manure of the animals. What’s more, you’ll be under the sun for a long time and I’m afraid that your skin will darken.”
Hera couldn’t help but chuckle but before she was misunderstood by the old man, she added. “Sir, I’m not afraid of hardship. I’m more afraid to be hungry though.” She said playfully.
The grumpy old man laughed out loud. “Don’t regret what you say!” He led Hera to the land with the most weeds.
“Of course not!” she replied, running after him. Bry and the cameraman followed, the latter already sweating on his forehead.
After stopping in front of the field with the most weeds, the old man pointed to each plot and instructed, “You can begin weeding and plowing the land from this plot. Once you have completed the task, please inform me so I can assign your next task.”
After saying his piece, he left and went on his own task on the other side of the field. And Hera did not dawdle as well, she held the hoe tightly in her hands.
“Sister, why don’t we start by weeding? I’ll help you so don’t worry.” Bry puffed up his chest as he stood straight while patting his chest.
Hera let out a chuckle, her voice laced with amusement. “That certainly makes me feel empowered,” she remarked. Casting a sweeping glance around her, she placed her other hand on her hips, a thoughtful expression crossing her features. “Instead of simply wedding, why not consider multitasking?” she suggested, her tone brimming with determination.
Before Bry could even pose the question, Hera was already in motion, deftly maneuvering the soil around the plants. With meticulous care, she ensured not to disturb the delicate balance, her movements calculated to avoid any accidental harm to the roots.
Bry stood to the side, mouth agape in astonishment. He had assumed Hera might be uncertain about tasks in the field, which is why he suggested starting with the least demanding job. However, her immediate leap into plowing caught him off guard.
Initially, Hera’s movements were awkward, her control over her strength faltering, nearly endangering the delicate roots. Overexertion strained her back muscles, hindering her progress. It took several attempts before she finally found her rhythm and mastered the task at hand.
‘I have a feeling I’ll be sore later,’ Hera muttered to herself, anticipating the discomfort. Despite this knowledge, she persisted, determined not to halt her efforts. Thankfully, the crew provided her with thick Nitrile-coated gloves, the breathable fabric offered comfort while the palm coating ensured a superior grip on the farming tools.
The gloves also served to prevent blisters from forming as she wielded the hoe, thereby reducing potential discomfort. Within just half an hour, beads of sweat dotted Hera’s forehead, trailing down her face to her chin before dripping onto the ground below.
After not wearing a hat to shield her face from the direct sun, Hera’s complexion had turned a rosy hue from the relentless assault of UV rays. However, far from appearing pitiful, she exuded an energetic and endearing aura, her smile unwavering as she persisted in her work.
As if she had stumbled upon something enjoyable, the elderly man who had approached with the expectation of finding Hera begrudgingly pulling weeds was taken aback. Instead, he found her wholeheartedly engrossed in plowing the soil and meticulously separating the weeds after loosening the earth. Her unexpected dedication and skill surprised him.
Being someone who valued giving credit where it was due, he found himself unable to resist commending Hera for her efficient and effective work. In a mere half-hour, she had managed to cover nearly half of the expansive plot, a testament to her diligence and effectiveness.
While not the largest plot in their field, this particular area boasted an abundance of weeds, presenting a significant challenge. Bry, on the other hand, aided Hera by swiftly gathering the weeds she tossed aside, stacking them neatly to prevent any chance of their roots reclaiming the soil.
“Child, you’re doing splendidly, aren’t you?” The old man ambled around, inspecting Hera’s work with the intention of identifying any potential issues. However, no matter where he looked, he couldn’t find a single fault.
Unbeknownst to him, while Hera diligently toiled in the field, Bry had been offering her insightful tips that illuminated the nuances of farm work. Despite possessing theoretical knowledge and a basic understanding, Hera lacked practical experience, leaving her reliant solely on what she already knew.

Indeed, with her ancestry rooted in a farming family, Hera harbored a deep fascination for agricultural practices. This innate connection spurred her keen interest in farming. Consequently, during discussions with Bry about planting and farming, she listened attentively, recognizing his wealth of knowledge gained from growing up around the farm and animals.
Once Hera completed the plowing and weeding tasks, she transitioned seamlessly to harvesting the mature vegetables. Basket after basket was filled with the fruits of their labor. While most of the villagers had been occupied with harvesting while Hera focused on plowing earlier, now that she had finished her task, she eagerly joined the others in the collective effort.
Observing Hera’s genuine enthusiasm and eagerness to learn about farming, the villagers developed a fondness for her. They warmly embraced her presence and generously shared the wealth of knowledge they had accumulated over the years, nurturing her curiosity and passion for agricultural practices.
