Chapter 130: Chapter 130 Climb the Ranking
As Hera continued, she still had plenty of spare fish, having already checked off 9 items from her list. Her ranking soared rapidly, attracting more viewers to her livestream to see her progress. Real-time updates on her ranking were displayed prominently on the screen, positioned above her scavenger list. This layout ensured that viewers could track both her standing and her remaining tasks with ease.
Hera’s ranking soared from last place to the 5th position so swiftly that viewers immediately took notice. With limited screen space, only the top 5 rankers were visible, prompting viewers to click “view more” to see the full ranking list. Her rapid ascent caught the attention of many, sparking curiosity about her progress and strategy.
As her ranking surged, Hera’s viewer count skyrocketed once more, maintaining the highest viewer retention rate. However, Xavier continued to reign at the top of the ranking list, closely followed by Zen, Alice, one of the leading actors, and then Hera. Despite her impressive climb, she still had formidable competitors ahead.
Xavier and Zen’s standings were neck and neck, with Xavier maintaining a slim lead of just one item. Known for his swift learning and efficient task completion, Xavier adeptly navigated through each challenge, swiftly moving from one task to the next to gather his items. However, Hera’s ingenuity in finding loopholes within the rules and exploiting them had proven to be a game-changer, a strategy that caught many by surprise.
Initially, some viewers were incensed by Hera’s unorthodox approach, feeling it deviated from the expected method of completing tasks. However, longtime followers of Hera’s live stream quickly pointed out that the director’s instructions only stipulated that participants could obtain items with the villagers’ agreement, without specifying the method. Hera’s innovative strategy, they argued, was not only permissible but also commendable for its efficiency compared to the conventional approaches of other participants.
Once the viewers grasped the loophole in the rules, their initial frustration gave way to amusement. They couldn’t help but chuckle at the irony of the situation, envisioning the reactions of the other participants when they discovered Hera’s unconventional yet effective approach.
[JustReading: Hahaha! I can’t stop laughing! I’ve been watching other participants toil away, completing their tasks one by one, and here comes Hera, using an exchange system to breeze through hers. (≧▽≦) (^▽^)]
[Xoxo: Absolutely! Her method was spot on and saved her a ton of time.]
[AuntieNextDoor: Totally agree! She found a clever way to handle it all.]
While everyone else was clamoring in the chatroom, Hera made her way to the stable, where she found Bry standing guard at the door.
“Sister! You’re finally here!!! I’ve been waiting for you for so long!” Bry pouted as he looked frustrated. “Many have already gone here to get the items on their list, how come you’re arriving only now?”
Hera noticed familiar faces like Bry, Aunt Sabby, and Grandpa from the field, all seemingly waiting for her. Their attitude filled her with warmth, and she smiled brightly at Bry before explaining, “It took me a while to get my first item.”
“What?! Then, you must hurry up or else, you’ll be at the bottom of the ranking!” Bry exclaimed, ushering Hera into the stable. “What item do you need? I’ll fetch it for you!”
As Hera entered the stable, she heard Diamond snort excitedly from his corner. Walking straight to him, she carried the remaining few fishes in one hand and gently stroked Diamond’s neck.
“I’ll need to trouble you to lend me 4 horseshoes and a horsewhip,” Hera said as she pet Diamond.
Bry nodded enthusiastically and ran out to get what Hera needed. He had already prepared everything that Hera might borrow or need in their stable, so he was well-prepared. Just like Aunt Sabby, Bry also made it hard for the other participants.
He made them bathe the horse, and brush their fur, and he even made Minerva and Alexi braid the horse’s mane just to prolong their time spent in the stable, all for the sake of borrowing a single item.
A single task from him would take no less than half an hour to complete, and he had an endless list of tasks prepared for the other participants. Although he didn’t make it hard for Xavier and Zen, they also received specific tasks that took no less than 30 minutes to complete.
This is Bry’s way of showing support to Hera after finding out that the event will be ranked and the last in the ranking will receive fewer supplies while the winner will be able to eat and enjoy their reward for the night.
He had already heard from his friends in the village about how the other participants talked about Hera, especially Minerva. Knowing that Minerva always wanted to pick on Hera, he vented his dissatisfaction this way to avenge Hera.
This is the sole reason why he stepped forward and presented himself to be the one guarding the stable while his father and older brother tended to the other horses and did the training or took care of the pregnant horses.
Bry did not make Hera wait long and he already brought what she needed. “Since you made Diamond happy for today, here’s your reward,” Bry said as he showed the items to Hera.
Hera chuckled warmly as she accepted the items from Bry. After stowing them securely in her backpack, she reached for one of the larger fish she had caught earlier. “Here, Bry,” she said, offering it to him. “For your help and for always looking out for me.”
“Sister, you don’t need to do that. I agreed to lend you our things, and that’s enough,” Bry said. Despite his youth, he was quite quick-witted and understood the essence of the game’s rules. He deliberately made it hard for others to borrow items from the stable while readily lending them to Hera. Such double standards might infuriate anyone, especially Minerva, but he didn’t care and still smiled smugly at Hera.
“Just take it and give it to your mother to cook later,” Hera insisted, pushing the fish into Bry’s hand. He pouted, reluctant to accept the gift, and Hera noticed his hesitation. “I still have to rely on you for the remaining four days I’m staying in your village. So consider this my bribe to you,” she said playfully, hoping to persuade Bry to accept her offer.
Bry paused for a moment, then nodded enthusiastically with a bright smile. “Leave it to me, sister!” he exclaimed, patting his chest to show his confidence in fulfilling her request. He reached out to accept the fish.
After a brief check on Hera’s progress, Bry didn’t want to detain her in the stable for too long, almost shooing her away to prevent her from falling to the bottom of the ranking list. He wished he could accompany Hera around the village to assist her in completing her list, but alas, his duty was to guard the stable. Somehow, he began to regret not being able to accompany her and offer his help.
As Hera proceeded to her next destination, she encountered Xavier, his backpack bulging with various items almost spilling out from the opening. Xavier spared Hera’s backpack a quick glance before their eyes met, and a broad smile lit up his face.
He maintained his silence, refraining from any attempt to remind her of their bet. Yet, Hera couldn’t shake the feeling that Xavier already assumed victory. This silent confidence irked her, fueling a flicker of frustration within her.
