Chapter 141: Chapter 141 Who Benifitted?
As Hera, Zen, and Xavier approached Bry, his father, and Uncle, Xavier continued to hold her waist, the gentle peck lingering in her mind. Yet, she couldn’t discern if it was intentional or if he was merely caught up in the moment, never attempting to take advantage of her.
Hera attributed the turn of events to Xavier’s acting prowess. She understood that skilled actors fully embody their characters, and as Xavier was portraying her fiancé, it was natural for him to be affectionate and touchy with her.
Upon grasping the situation behind the scenes, Hera nodded to herself, determined not to create any awkwardness with Xavier. However, to her surprise, she realized she didn’t feel awkward at all, not even in the slightest.
“Sister, exercise extreme caution when you encounter that baldy,” Bry warned, his tone dripping with not just caution but pure disdain and his eyes showed his hatred.
She found Bry’s reaction a bit unsettling. Despite any past disagreements between that man and his family, Bry’s level of hostility seemed unwarranted. Bry wasn’t the type to harbor random hatred towards someone unless they had done something to upset him or had committed a grievous offense.
Hera was so lost in her thoughts for a moment that she failed to notice Xavier’s intense gaze fixed upon her. Not only was she unaware of his stare, but she also remained oblivious to his hand still comfortably resting in the small of her back.
“You really shouldn’t get too close to that man. His temper is notoriously bad, and his personality is a bit eccentric, I suppose,” Bry’s uncle expressed with genuine concern, his reaction more subdued compared to Bry’s. “That man is one of the well-known scions of a wealthy family from the capital,” he added, cautioning Hera to avoid any further conflicts with him. Bry’s uncle believed that as mere celebrities, they would find themselves in an unfavorable situation if they clashed with him again.
Bry’s uncle was well aware that despite their fame and fortune, celebrities could see their wealth and status vanish in an instant if they offended individuals with powerful backgrounds and couldn’t compete with them in any capacity.
Hera also understood the underlying meaning behind his words, so she observed Bry for a bit, noting his lowered head which obscured his expression. However, his emotions were evident in the tightness of his clenched fists, his small knuckles whitening with the force of his grip.
“We understand uncle, don’t worry about us. You should know us by now, me and these two don’t cause trouble, however, we are not afraid of trouble.” Hera smiled sweetly her eyes turning to crescent, she then turned around to face Zen and Xavier, only then did Xavier lose his grip on Hera’s waist but before he even displayed any dissatisfaction or complaint, Hera added. “Right?”
“Right,” Zen replied with a nonchalant demeanor. To him, the man’s status as a well-known scion meant little; he might only be a third-rate wealthy heir in his eyes. Zen felt confident in his ability to handle any unruly behavior from him. A smug smile formed on Zen’s lips as he entertained thoughts of what he would do if the man dared to lay a hand on Hera.
Zen and Xavier both noticed the lecherous gaze directed at Hera, brimming with fantasies and greed as if he desired to possess every beautiful woman he laid eyes on.
Xavier remained silent, but his nod indicated his agreement with Zen. None of the three paid much heed to the man. However, what mattered most to Hera was Bry’s feelings. It seemed unlikely that his reaction was merely born out of simple hatred.
“Bry, would you mind helping me inspect Diamond for a bit?” Hera suggested, gently patting Bry’s shoulder to regain his attention.
It took a few taps before Bry responded with a wordless nod, then he headed straight to Diamond’s cubicle.
Hera followed behind Bry with a pensive expression. She observed him inspecting all the items she would use on Diamond, and if possible, he even wanted to check on Diamond itself to ensure there was nothing wrong. Hera found this behavior very unusual. While Bry had started to admire Diamond as before, he would never take the first step to get closer to Diamond due to a deep-seated fear that lingered in his body. Although not as obvious as before, it still remained, akin to muscle memory.
Before she could delve deeper into her thoughts, her mouth acted on its own accord. “Do you despise that man?” Hera’s voice was neither loud nor soft, but her tone betrayed her growing curiosity. Despite being a few steps apart, Bry heard her question. He turned his head to face Hera, his lips pursed and a deep frown etched on his smooth forehead.
“I loathe him,” Bry answered through gritted teeth, his narrowed eyes betraying a vivid imagination of impaling the man with numerous swords.
Hera couldn’t help but notice Bry’s expressions under her careful observation. Unconsciously, a frown creased her brow. Such intense hatred was highly unusual for an 11-year-old boy, especially considering Bry’s typically bubbly demeanor.
Drawing closer to Bry, Hera left only a few steps between them before she squatted down in front of him. “Could you tell me why?” Her voice dripped with concern.
Hearing her words filled with concern, Bry pursed his lips even more, not out of hatred this time, but because he was holding back tears. He tried to avoid Hera’s gaze, which was filled with sincerity and genuineness.
“I… I… I believe he’s the reason for my uncle’s accident,” Bry confessed, his voice choked with emotion as tears of frustration streamed down his face. “But no one believed me. They said it was just an accident.” Bry felt powerless, unable to take action even though he harbored suspicions. Adults dismissed his concerns, attributing them to an overactive imagination fueled by fictional dramas. Bry’s father insisted that wealthy individuals like the man in question wouldn’t bother with them, but Bry thought otherwise.
“Can you tell me more?” Hera’s concern deepened as she sensed the fluctuation of his emotions. She was not only worried about his bottled-up emotions but also because his suspicions seemed plausible. She understood that many wealthy people didn’t take commoners seriously, confident in their ability to handle situations without consequence, relying on their background for support to resolve any issues.
“Do you believe me?” Bry’s eyes widened, his mouth agape, as he searched Hera’s face for any sign that she was merely being kind to him, acting as if she believed him. Yet, he could sense her genuine curiosity and concern, unmistakable in her expression.
“Wouldn’t it be reassuring to confirm if your suspicions were right all along?” Hera suggested, offering him a reassuring smile. Just seeing her smile filled Bry with confidence, affirming the validity of his thoughts and feelings.
Bry nodded, frustration evident in his voice as he spoke. “But sister, I don’t have any evidence. All I have is my gut feeling. Besides, he was the only one who benefited from my uncle’s accident at the time, and he won the championship,” Bry said, his words tinged with regret and anger.
