Chapter 146: Chapter 146 Who has the Final Laugh
Observing Xavier’s approach, the irksome man clicked his tongue in annoyance, contemplating whether to depart or oust Xavier from the scene. However, he restrained himself, recognizing his outsider status and the limitations it imposed. His recent warning from his uncle echoed in his mind, cautioning against stirring up trouble, especially considering his uncle’s political ambitions.
The obnoxious man opted to depart immediately, unwilling to endure another display of affection between them that rankled him to the core. He harbored a possessive desire for the woman and couldn’t bear witnessing her affectionate gestures toward someone else. He opted to wait for the perfect moment to make his move and steal her away, rather than endure the sight of another man enjoying her company. Ultimately, he was convinced that he would have the final laugh.
As the man departed, Xavier couldn’t shake off a twinge of regret. He realized he had missed an opportunity to be physically close to Hera once more. The sensation of having her in his embrace, inhaling her scent, and feeling her soft body against his had been oddly comforting and addicting, stirring feelings within him that he couldn’t quite decipher.
At that moment, a part of him yearned to grasp the man’s arm and compel him to linger, providing a pretext to remain stuck close to Hera. Yet, all he could manage was a tight-lipped expression as he observed the man hastily retreat, a sense of missed opportunity gnawing at him.
“Oh, thank goodness! I finally escaped him!” Hera exclaimed dramatically, her lips puckering in playful irritation at the memory of the encounter. “So, are you all set with your preparations?” she inquired, turning her attention to Xavier.
Xavier nodded in confirmation, and just as he did, Zen and Bry joined them. The four of them engaged in lively conversation and shared jokes for about an hour until it was just a few minutes before they needed to head to the race track. Hera felt relieved and grateful that she didn’t have to endure the man’s harassment again, nor did she have to endure his grating voice so close to her.
As the event organizers signaled for them to make their way to the racetrack, Hera, Xavier, and Zen all mounted their horses after stepping out of the stable. Before Hera departed, she returned the phone to Bry. “Wait for my friend’s call, and I’ll let you coordinate with them,” she instructed. Then, considering Bry’s age, she added, “Don’t worry, they won’t ask difficult questions or anything too challenging, so there’s no need to be nervous.”
Upon hearing Hera’s reassuring words, Bry’s nervousness dissipated, and he nodded eagerly, ready to fulfill the mission she had given him. Meanwhile, Bry’s father and uncle remained clueless about the conversation between the two, but they refrained from pressing for answers, respecting that it was a matter between them.
With confidence in Bry’s abilities, Hera departed with the others, assured that he would handle the task competently. She trusted in his quick wit and had already provided her team with a thorough outline of her plan. They only required minor instructions regarding the location, something she believed Bry could manage capably.
Her immediate focus shifted to the upcoming race, determined not to let her and Diamond’s recent efforts go to waste. Hera cleared her mind of distractions, honing her observation skills to ensure she was fully prepared for the challenge ahead or any sudden changes that may arise at any moment.
As Hera stepped into her lane at the race track, she resembled a queen prepared for battle. Her aura exuded confidence and undeniable charm, capturing even more attention. With her naturally striking features already turning heads, her commanding presence made her and Xavier the focal point of the scene.
They both appeared more suited for a fashion photo shoot than a competition, drawing the focus of numerous cameras. Their presence dominated the scene, earning them the majority of the airtime compared to the other participants.

As the participants settled into position, they leaned in close to their horses, anticipation hanging thick in the air, each one poised for the moment the starting pistol would pierce the silence, signaling the thunderous race to the finish line and the pursuit of the championship.
