Chapter 173: Chapter 173 Let me Come too
Hera was taken aback by how quickly her invitation was accepted. She had expected some polite declines or excuses, but to her surprise, Luke, Rafael, and Zhane all agreed simultaneously the moment she extended the invitation. Even Dave decided to join in, claiming he had nothing else to do.
Xavier frowned as he observed his friends eagerly accept Hera’s invitation. He couldn’t shake off his confusion about how they all knew her and for how long. With the addition of the four newcomers, Hera had to tap her key card on the elevator again to initiate the ascent, as the elevator required each new arrival to tap their card and select their floor before proceeding.
The elevator’s security features were comprehensive and aimed at thwarting unauthorized access. Equipped with cameras and sensors, it required individuals not part of the group to tap their key cards on the elevator’s sensor before selecting their floor. Moreover, a facial recognition system ensured that only authorized individuals could enter. To bolster security further, a team of operators worked around the clock in shifts, ensuring constant monitoring and minimizing the risk of any lapses or errors in judgment.
For visitors, there were two ways to access the building aside from having a copy of the key card. The other option was for the homeowner or renter to send a list of people they wanted to grant full access to their respective floors. This required providing the person’s information, including their pictures and body configuration in full detail, so that it could be included in the system’s database. Once that specific person entered the elevator, they would be recognized by the facial recognition camera, and the elevator’s sensor would automatically turn green upon clearance. This was the only way for approved individuals to access the designated floor. They were not able to wander onto other floors.
That’s why, there circulated a jest among the elite circles that while an assassin might penetrate the Minister’s office, breaching the Green Dragon Manor’s defenses proved an insurmountable task. The estate boasted a sophisticated security system, rivaling the standards of the National Military Base. Its internet speed matched that of NASA, ensuring seamless connectivity without any lags. Furthermore, its IP addresses were fortified with layers of security, rendering them impervious to hacking attempts. The estate was strewn with traps, adding yet another layer of protection against intruders.
After Hera confirmed that the sensor had turned green, she also made sure that everyone was on board, she pressed the close button. However, as she glanced around the elevator, she noticed the unexpected crowd. The elevator was spacious, akin to those found in hospitals, capable of accommodating stretchers. Yet, she found herself surrounded by Luke, Rafael, Zhane, and even Xavier, who had instinctively positioned himself close to Hera. Perplexed by everyone’s behavior, Hera barely had time to process before another person rushed in just as the doors began to close once more.
Hera found it difficult to fully see the person who entered, sandwiched as she was between the towering figures of the male leads.
“Ah! Grandpa!” Zen exclaimed as the person entered, prompting the newcomer to turn toward the back of the elevator.
“Are you here to pester me again?” The rugged voice of an older man, full of vigor, resonated in the small space.
“I’m here to help a friend move some stuff in her place later,” Zen explained, shrugging his shoulders. He used to be scared of his grandfather because of his intimidating aura, but after imagining his lovestruck grandfather, he somehow shed all this fear and was able to meet his gaze without batting an eyelid now.
His grandfather was about to ask further, but then he remembered that he had to scan his key card in the sensor. “Please excuse me,” he gestured, motioning for Luke and the others to give him some space to squeeze into the control panel of the elevator.
When Luke and the others stepped back, the older man noticed Hera, who was hidden near the elevator buttons. “Oh! Little girl, you’re back?”
When she heard the familiar voice directed at her, Hera looked up and met the deep set of eyes that bore the marks of time but also brimmed with wisdom. “Grandpa Victor, it’s nice to see you again!” Hera smiled warmly, meeting the gaze of the old man, who possessed the strength of a bull and the aura of a mafia boss.
“You guys knew each other?!” Zen interjected the two with evident surprise in his voice as he pushed aside Luke to the side to get closer to Hera and his grandfather who was also standing closer. Luke was clearly displeased and his eyebrows creased ever so slightly but he did not say a thing and just smiled to greet Victor with an amiable smile.
“Grandpa Victor, you’ve come back at just the right time to meet Miss Ainsley as she’s just returned,” Luke said in a jovial tone. His melodious voice, full of gentleness and warmth, would surely charm anyone who heard it. He was the perfect picture of a prince charming on a white horse, ideal and dreamy.
Victor noticed Luke’s presence in the elevator earlier but had almost forgotten about him in the excitement of seeing Hera. Turning his attention back to his grandson, he asked, “Is she the first person you mentioned you’d be helping?” Then, he gestured toward Hera. Since no one had pressed the button for Victor’s floor yet, the elevator remained stuck on the first floor.
Zen simply nodded, and Victor couldn’t help but notice the change in his grandson’s demeanor. Typically, Zen would be respectfully hesitant, avoiding direct eye contact with him. But now, Zen met his gaze with composure. Victor’s brows instinctively rose as he observed the transformation in Zen, sensing a positive shift. “I thought you were out recording some show?” Victor inquired again, curious about Zen’s sudden appearance.
“It just ended earlier, and she was with me during the recording. We both received bulky gifts, so she needs help bringing them up,” Zen explained in one breath.
Victor was surprised to hear that they had already spent some time together. “The show you mentioned, where you said you’d have to spend a few days, was this brat also part of it?” Victor asked Hera with an incredulous expression tinged with a hint of envy towards Zen, his voice rising slightly as he spoke.
“Yes, Grandpa Victor. Zen was my teammate and this gentleman here,” Hera said, making sure to gesture towards Xavier, who stood behind her, incessantly pulling at her sleeves even more than Bry did.
“Oh! So you also know that brat from the Montague family, huh?” Victor mused, placing his fingers on his chin as he pondered for a moment before adding, “Let me help too. The more helpers there are, the faster the work will be completed.” His words carried a commanding tone, but he waited for Hera’s response, showing no inclination to push further if she did not agree.
“What?! Grandpa, you’re too old for this. Just rest in your place,” Zen interjected, his tone filled with concern. He didn’t want his grandfather to join them; with already so many extras present, adding his grandfather to the mix would only make the atmosphere awkward, especially for Bry and his family.
