Chapter 175: Chapter 175 Her Guests
Hera couldn’t help but notice Bry’s twinkling eyes as they stepped out of the elevator. They gleamed like stars that had discovered something wondrous. His enjoyment was palpable, evident in the way he admired the beautiful garden visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the hallway. As they reached the double doors, Bry’s anticipation was tangible; he even took a sharp breath as he eagerly awaited Hera’s gesture to open them.
Bry’s father and uncle felt a twinge of anxiety as they hadn’t anticipated the extravagance of Hera’s residence. They hesitated to venture beyond the marbled floor onto the luxurious carpet, their cautious steps betraying their unease. Their concern was palpable as they carefully navigated, mindful of the dirt on their shoes and the wheelchair’s wheels from the village road they had traversed earlier.
Hera observed their cautious demeanor, and as she opened the door, she graciously stepped aside to usher everyone inside. Upon hearing the door open, Amy, one of the servants, hastened to the entrance to welcome Hera. Spotting Amy, Hera stepped forward to assist Bry’s father in pushing the wheelchair inside.
“Uncle, allow me to assist you in pushing second uncle inside,” Hera offered, gesturing for Bry’s father to enter. Seeing him hesitate, she reassured him, “Please, don’t worry about a thing.” Her words were meant to soothe their anxieties and encourage them to feel at home.
With a gentle and refreshing smile adorning his face, Luke stepped forward to assist Hera in a gentlemanly manner. “Why don’t you let me help uncle in, hmm?” he suggested kindly.
Hera chuckled warmly. “You’re all my guests, so there’s no need to worry about this,” she reassured them, her words carrying a sense of hospitality and ease.
“Indulge me for a moment, won’t you?” Luke said playfully as he took on the task with gentle determination. His action provided Hera with an opportunity to comfort Bry’s father, who was apprehensive about entering a new environment and overwhelmed by worries.
Sensing Luke’s intention, Hera smiled warmly at his departing figure as he engaged in conversation with Bry’s uncle, easing his nerves with his comforting presence. Luke’s charismatic and refreshing aura had a remarkable effect, quickly putting Bry’s uncle at ease and drawing him into a conversation, distracting him from his earlier worries. Luke’s natural charm was undeniable, effortlessly capturing the attention of those around him.
Hera gently guided Bry’s father inside, offering him her arm as if she were assisting an elderly gentleman. Despite her delicate approach, Bry’s father was taken aback by the unexpected care and burst into laughter. “Hera, do I appear that fragile to you?” he joked, aiming to reassure her. With a career in horse breeding, he had encountered numerous affluent individuals and conducted transactions with them, granting him a broad perspective on the world.
He was just a little surprised to see that Hera’s place was just in another level of wealth that he became worried about soiling the expensive carpet because most wealthy people would easily get angry about these small details. And most of the time, he would even be invited inside their houses because they were afraid that a country bumkin like him might steal or accidentally push some expensive antique in their house aside from soiling their carpets with his dirt-filled shoes.
For a moment, he forgot that the owner of the house they were entering was Hera, one of the most humble and kind individuals he had ever met. Her demeanor mirrored that of the other villagers—down-to-earth and unassuming. Had he not spotted her expensive car earlier, he wouldn’t have suspected that Hera lived in such an upscale residential area. Nonetheless, he was still taken aback by the realization of her wealth, as he had never anticipated just how affluent she truly was.
After reassuring Bry’s father, they entered the penthouse. Inside, Amy expertly guided everyone to comfortable seats in the living room, where refreshments and snacks awaited. Finding themselves settled, everyone engaged in conversation, enjoying the cozy atmosphere and each other’s company.
The male leads gathered closely, exchanging cautious glances, while Xavier silently scrutinized them, curious about their intentions. Meanwhile, Bry’s uncle wandered around the plants near the piano, quietly admiring each one. Bry, on the other hand, moved about with eager energy, as if he were exploring an amusement park.
Zen and his grandfather stood a bit apart from the others, engaged in a serious conversation that they preferred to keep private from the rest of the group.
Observing his younger brother and son enjoying themselves, Bry’s father breathed a sigh of relief. He cast a grateful glance at Hera, intending to express his gratitude, but before he could utter a word, Hera spoke up.
“Uncle, since Bry and your family were such a tremendous help to me during my time in the village, why don’t you allow me to arrange for some experts to examine second uncle’s leg for a consultation?” Her offer was sincere, devoid of any sense of superiority. Instead, she seemed genuinely concerned for Bry’s uncle’s well-being and eager to lend a helping hand.
Bry’s father’s lips formed a restrained smile, overwhelmed with gratitude. He appreciated Hera and the others for their decision to forego their claim to the prize money from the equestrian race; it was already a considerable help. With that, he felt confident enough to consider allowing his younger brother to undergo the consultation and potentially the operation. However, his intention was to seek assistance from a public hospital, trusting that the doctors there would be capable of helping his younger brother walk again.
Yet, it would be a lie to claim he possessed unwavering confidence in the likelihood of his younger brother’s recovery. Despite a year having passed, he had yet to find a doctor who could offer even a 50% success rate for the operation.
So, his trust in the doctors was more of a self-assurance tactic than a genuine belief in their capabilities. The last consultation revealed that his younger brother’s lumbar spine was affected, along with some adjacent nerves, posing a significant challenge for surgical treatment.
He hesitated to burden Hera, who had generously offered her assistance. Admitting that he was not tempted would be a lie, but before he could decline, someone interjected, “Why don’t you let me take a look?” Zhane, who had been monitoring Hera since she stepped in, accidentally overheard their conversation.
He recognized that eavesdropping wasn’t gentlemanly behavior, but upon realizing the conversation pertained to medical matters, he felt compelled to intervene. While he typically refrained from involving himself in others’ affairs due to his busy schedule at the hospital and he was just not a busybody, the prospect of assisting Hera spurred him into action. He believed he was the most qualified candidate for the task and felt a sense of duty to offer his expertise, knowing that Hera needed assistance.
Bry’s father tilted his head in confusion. “You are?”
“I am Zhane Everett, a doctor,” came the reply.
Only then did Hera recall that the brilliant Dr. Zhane Everett was also present. She had been discussing arranging medical assistance for Bry’s uncle’s leg, she could just pray that Zhane doesn’t view this differently.
“Is he the one you were talking about?” Bry’s father inquired, but Hera couldn’t bring herself to meet his gaze. Her guilty eyes spoke volumes, conveying her inadvertent oversight of Zhane. Helplessly, Zhane could only shake his head in resignation.
