Chapter 177: Chapter 177 Dr. Everett
“Dad, what’s happening?” Bry’s joyous exploration of the penthouse was abruptly halted as he returned to find his father in tears, on the verge of kneeling before Zhane. Alarmed, he feared the worst and rushed to his father’s side, casting Zhane a fierce glare.
Observing his son’s misunderstanding, Bry’s father administered a gentle smack to his head. “Don’t be disrespectful. Dr. Everett will be your uncle’s attending physician from now on,” he clarified sternly.
Bry, still rubbing his aching head, halted almost instantly upon hearing his father’s words. He was well aware of the responsibilities of an attending physician. Gasping in shock, he quickly apologized for his behavior, eager not to offend Zhane. “I’m sorry, Doctor!” Bry exclaimed, bowing respectfully to demonstrate his genuine remorse for his earlier actions.
Zhane nodded, choosing not to dwell on Bry’s actions, and continued with professionalism. “How about we schedule your brother’s first consultation with me for tomorrow morning?”
By now, Bry’s uncle had noticed what was happening on Hera’s side, prompting him to leave the flowers and slowly wheel himself toward them. Fortunately, Hera’s penthouse was flat and lacked obstructions, making it easy for him to maneuver anywhere he desired. Soon, he arrived at their side and inquired, “What are you guys up to?”
“Uncle, Father mentioned that this handsome gentleman, I mean, doctor, will be your attending physician!” Bry exclaimed with enthusiasm, even managing to amuse Zhane with his animated antics. Zhane couldn’t help but feel slightly embarrassed by the unexpected compliment in front of Hera—it felt like an open advertisement.
Bry’s uncle glanced up at Zhane, who stood stoically in his light brown checkered suit—reminiscent of Burberry, but of a different brand. Zhane’s striking appearance could rival that of an actor’s. Indeed, all the young men accompanying them to Hera’s penthouse exuded handsomeness. However, after spending time with Xavier and Leo, Bry’s uncle had grown accustomed to seeing such good-looking men. It was as though his aesthetic standards had been elevated, making average-looking individuals seem comparably unremarkable and looking like squid.
“Hello, Doctor,” Bry’s uncle greeted curtly. He observed Zhane, noting his youthful appearance juxtaposed with an aura of confidence and wisdom that belied his age. Feeling a sense of assurance wash over him, he couldn’t shake the feeling that if Zhane were indeed his doctor, positive outcomes were imminent.
Zhane reciprocated the greeting with a nod before addressing Bry’s uncle, “I was just discussing with your brother the possibility of scheduling your consultation for tomorrow. How does that sound to you?”
“We’ll heed your advice, Doctor,” Bry’s uncle replied promptly. To say he was excited would be an understatement; he felt as if he could soar through the sky at that moment. Seeing a doctor as young as Zhane standing before him raised questions because he would either be a new graduate intern or a genius, but Zhane’s confidence suggested otherwise. It was clear to him that Zhane was no ordinary physician—he must be a prodigy, capable of transforming his misfortune and healing his damaged lumbar spine and nerves.
As they reached an agreement, Hera’s smile widened, her eyes sparkling with delight. “Since we’ve settled on a plan, let’s take a break and enjoy dinner together. What do you think?” Her gaze swept around the room before settling on Zhane’s emerald eyes.
“Sounds like a plan,” Luke interjected, interrupting the growing rapport between Hera and Zhane.
Hera’s smile was gracious as she spoke, her tone warm and inviting. “Well, then, please everyone, make yourselves comfortable and take a seat. If any of you are interested in some entertainment while we wait for the food, Amy can show you to the game room and entertainment area. You can play some games, perhaps indulge in a game of pool, or even grab a drink or two.” Hera’s suggestion was met with another friendly smile before she gracefully turned on her heel and headed to the kitchen. There, she intended to lend a hand to Hannah, whether in cooking or preparing the ingredients, as they had a meal to prepare for ten people.
Zen and Xavier, acting on their habitual routine from spending the week together, subconsciously trailed Hera into the kitchen to offer their assistance.
Luke seized the opportunity without hesitation and decided to join them. He recognized that if he allowed Xavier to be alone with Hera, their bond would only strengthen further. Additionally, he saw this as his chance to grow closer to Hera. “I’ll come too,” he declared, swiftly striding towards Hera without waiting for his other friends to react.
With Hera now in the kitchen, she couldn’t help but feel that her spacious kitchen suddenly seemed overcrowded. Luke, Rafael, Zhane, Xavier, Zen, and even Victor and Dave followed them inside. Meanwhile, Bry headed to the game room under Amy’s guidance, leaving his father and uncle engaged in lively conversation in the living room, eagerly discussing the upcoming consultation.
She had hoped to lend Hannah a hand in the kitchen, using it as an excuse to steal a moment away from the male leads so she could gather her thoughts and plan her next steps. However, they thwarted her attempts for solitude by trailing after her. Even Victor joined them, rendering the kitchen uncomfortably silent in his presence. Despite the tension, none seemed inclined to depart, leaving Hannah feeling overwhelmed by the weight of their collective presence in her sanctuary.
“Um, would any of you like to play pool or grab a drink upstairs?” Hera offered awkwardly, hoping to disperse the crowd in the kitchen.
“What are you talking about? We men should help you ladies in the kitchen. Your delicate arms won’t be able to handle preparing a meal for ten people,” Victor’s energetic voice resounded in the kitchen as he stood tall near the counter, attempting to fold his shirt. All the men in the kitchen were clad in three-piece suits, except for Xavier and Zen, who had just returned from the shooting.
They all resembled curious children, crowding the kitchen and seemingly ready to fool around. Hera felt a surge of headache assaulting her head as she noticed Hannah growing increasingly awkward and uncomfortable.
Deciding to take charge, Hera suggested, “How about I mix some drinks for you gentlemen upstairs?”
