Chapter 189: Chapter 189 The Aggrieved Dave
When Dave heard that Luke was outside waiting for him, a shiver crawled up his spine. He knew he might get skinned alive if Luke found out he’d been in Hera’s bed and had tried to make a move on her. He instantly stood up, pocketed the bottle of pills, and said, “I guess you won’t need to kick me out in the middle of the night—I have a place to stay now.” Dave feigned nonchalance in front of Hera, not waiting to see her reaction. He strode straight to the door, catching Amy off guard. She stood there, unsure of what to do as Dave emerged from Hera’s room, acting as if nothing had happened.
Amy looked him over from head to toe with a frown. ‘Did this hooligan take advantage of my Young Miss?’ The thought made her stiffen, ready for a confrontation. She craned her neck to look inside the room, needing to see Hera. When she saw Hera sitting on the bed, intact and unharmed, Amy let out a sigh of relief. Despite this, she remained wary, keeping a watchful eye on Dave.
Dave noticed Amy’s scrutiny but maintained his nonchalant demeanor as he continued on his way. From inside the room, Hera’s voice called out, “Amy, please see our guest out and inform Mr. Greyson that it’s inconvenient for me to step outside.”
“I understand, Young Miss,” Amy replied, bowing slightly before closing the door. She then turned to lead Dave out. Dave stole one last glance at the closed door, his lips pursed in frustration. During his time in the bedroom, he had tried several times to figure out Hera, but she remained an enigma to him.
But as he descended the stairs, his thoughts shifted to Luke. He was anxious about about how to explain everything, but halfway down, he gave up. He hadn’t intended for any of it to happen and didn’t even know how he ended up in Hera’s room. The servants’ suspicious glances made him feel like a thief caught in the act.
But he had no other way to release his frustration and could only grit his teeth. Hera’s words about him easily falling into a trap echoed in his mind, and he snorted to himself. He was a cunning politician, widely known in the political arena both within and outside the country, yet Hera had the audacity to suggest he was easily outmaneuvered. He felt like laughing it off, but then the memory of getting drunk and ending up in someone else’s room without realizing it made him start to second-guess himself, just as Hera had predicted.
Hera, on the other hand, speculated that this incident might be connected to the storyline. It seemed she might have inadvertently hastened Dave’s drugging arc or recreated a similar situation where that arc originally took place. Now, she wondered if the ‘Dave drugging arc’ would still unfold as intended. This was something she needed to keep a close eye on because if her suspicion was correct, she could predict future events and potentially manipulate them to her advantage. This would allow her to undermine Alice’s chances with the male leads and shift the narrative in her favor.
Even though this was just speculation, Hera felt that her little prank had a lasting impact. Dave would now be more cautious at gatherings, wary of something similar happening again, potentially preventing issues down the line. With a satisfied grin, Hera went back to sleep.
After clearing her thoughts, Hera drifted off to sleep again. Meanwhile, after Amy escorted Dave outside, nodding respectfully to Luke and offering Dave a curt glance infused with subtle disdain, Amy returned inside the penthouse to rest. Luke scrutinized Dave from head to toe, searching for any signs of mischief or wrongdoing.
Dave couldn’t fathom what was going through Luke’s mind. The typically gentle smile and refreshing aura Luke exuded had vanished, replaced by a predatory presence, like that of a hunter eyeing its quarry. Dave’s throat constricted with a twinge of guilt, fearing that Luke might discern something awry.
Ring-
Ring-
Ring-
The sudden ring of Luke’s phone shattered the quiet of the hallway, causing Dave to release a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. It felt like a lifeline had been thrown to him, saving him from a tense moment with Luke.
“Hello?” Luke’s deep voice resonated through the phone, sending a shiver down the caller’s spine. Something in his tone hinted at an underlying tension, leaving the person on the other end with a sense of unease.
“Have you found Dave?” Rafael’s voice carried a clear edge of irritation as he spoke from the other end of the line.
“Hmm,” Luke glanced at Dave, who stood before him, hands casually tucked in his pockets, exuding an air of calmness and drowsiness. “I’ll bring him back to my place for now.” With that, Luke headed straight for the elevator without waiting for Dave. Dave knew Luke awaited an explanation for what happened in Hera’s place while they were all in their own homes, but Luke intended to ensure Dave wouldn’t slip away before he had his chance to interrogate him. Dave had only five minutes to strategize his escape plan before Luke went into full interrogation mode or maybe a plan on how to explain things.
As expected, within five minutes, they arrived at Luke’s apartment, conveniently located just two floors below Hera’s. As soon as the door closed behind them, Luke headed straight for the couch, arms folded across his chest, one leg crossed over the other, his expression stern and expectant. It was clear he was waiting for Dave to start explaining if anything had happened while they were all away.
Dave calmly walked over, hands still tucked into his pockets. But instead of launching into an explanation, he shifted into full-on aggrieved mode, adopting a pitiful demeanor reminiscent of a neglected child. “You guys are too much!” he exclaimed, his tone animated, like a child throwing a tantrum. “You knew I was drunk, and as my best buddies, I expected you to at least send me home! But when I woke up, not only was I in an unfamiliar place, but I couldn’t even find you guys! You have no idea how surprised I was for a moment there.”
