Chapter 195: Chapter 195 Ask Your Brother
Could it have been the male leads? According to the novel, Hera’s death and her family’s downfall happened after the male leads teamed up to take on the Avery family. They eventually defeated the ultimate villain, whose boundless ruthlessness posed a severe threat, particularly targeting the male leads and especially Alice.
But no matter how hard she thought about it, she couldn’t understand why the novel portrayed Hera that way. It seemed as if Hera’s intelligence was deliberately lowered to cater to the victories of the female lead and the second female lead. Was the Hera in the novel really that naive and overtrusting? Or was her perspective altered because of Athena? Athena played a significant role in these changes, teaching Hera what she needed to remember, how to think strategically, and how to stand firm when dealing with people.
She knew that all of this was only possible because of Athena’s intervention. Feeling fortunate to have such a good friend by her side, Hera decided to treat Athena to more combo meals later on. A slight smile graced her lips at the thought.
Hera could feel the intensity of Alexi’s gaze, filled with emotions she neither understood nor cared to decipher. It surprised her to realize that she no longer felt anything about Alexi standing up for Minerva. She began to question if she ever truly loved Alexi or if she had merely gone along with him, believing that since Alexi deviated from the storyline, she could also change her fate. Perhaps she only thought she loved him because she was trying to alter the course of her destiny.
If she did love Alexi, it wasn’t as deep as the love the Hera in the novel felt for him. Perhaps she simply had high self-worth and loved herself enough to let go of her feelings easily. Regardless of the reason, even if she didn’t fully understand it herself, what mattered now was that she no longer had any feelings for Alexi.
When Alexi demanded to know what she meant, Hera simply looked at him with a calm expression. Her silence was misinterpreted by Alexi, who thought she was only acting out of anger because Minerva had taunted her. He assumed Hera was playing hard to get to reignite his love for her, thinking she wanted to make him desire her more. Confident in his interpretation, Alexi kept a smirk on his face, his gaze softening as he looked at Hera’s beautiful face. He longed to see her smile at him again and her lips call his name as sweetly as honey, just as she used to.
He believed Hera’s tactic was working on him, making him desire her even more. Every night, he had vivid dreams about her, and just thinking of her was enough to make his cock turn hard instantly. As he gazed at her now, he felt his throat go dry, his longing for her intensifying.
“Hera, did you say that just to spite me?” Alexi asked, his voice neutral but his eyes warm with affection. Everyone around them noticed the underlying tension and understood the dynamics at play. In their social circle, it was common for men to have secret lovers and mistresses, so no one thought badly of Alexi. In fact, the men around were nodding in agreement with his choices. Both Hera and Minerva were beautiful, and while one offered him a career, the other offered him love. Alexi had managed to secure both, a situation that many men envied.
After noticing the other men’s reactions, Alexi felt emboldened and tightened his grip on Hera’s arm as he repeated his question. “What do you mean? Care to explain?” There was a teasing smile on his face. Meanwhile, Minerva remained clueless, believing Alexi was giving Hera a hard time and relishing in the spectacle. She imagined Alexi was defending her honor in front of everyone, like a knight in shining armor. Her love-struck eyes couldn’t see how others viewed her—they scoffed at how she was allowing her boyfriend to openly pursue another woman in front of so many people.
“Babe, why are you even wasting time on her?” Minerva sneered, stepping out from behind Alexi to give Hera a disdainful smile. “She’s nothing but a kept woman. Do you really believe Athena has that much money to give her, even if she’s the sole heiress of the Lowery and Jackson families? Even Athena can only afford a Bugatti Chiron, and that’s already an exotic car. Hera, on the other hand, drives two cars that are even better.” Minerva’s voice dripped with venom as she continued her slander, caring little for the truth. All that mattered was ruining Hera’s image in front of Alexi. “You might fool the general masses, but you can’t fool people like us who know our stuff.”
Hera nonchalantly waited for Minerva to finish her rant, then glanced at Alexi, who was now turning purple with a mix of emotions. His face shifted through different shades—from anger to embarrassment and back to anger again. Whatever was going through his mind was a mystery to everyone, but Hera didn’t care.
Instead, Hera let out a melodious chuckle before speaking. “I guess I have to thank your brother for it.” She turned to face Minerva with a taunting smile. Minerva’s words reminded her of the $100 million transfer she had received from Rafael that morning. Hera decided to use it to provoke Minerva further. While what Minerva said was only partially true, $100 million was indeed enough to purchase the cars in her garage. The real challenge lies in the connections needed to acquire such vehicles. Hera could easily claim that she used Athena’s family connections for the purchases. After all, those cars weren’t just bought with money; they required a combination of status, wealth, and connections, something even Minerva’s family couldn’t attain.
As Hera anticipated, Minerva was visibly provoked and seething with anger at the mention of her brother. However, it was Alexi who voiced the question. “What do you mean? Why are you bringing up Minerva’s brother?” Despite his inquiry, Alexi’s expression betrayed a growing frustration and anger. His grip on Hera’s arm tightened, causing her to wince in pain. She attempted to free herself, but his hold was too strong. Their proximity made it difficult for Hera to maneuver and break free from Alexi’s grasp.
But Hera did not back down and she made it easier for everyone to misinterpret her words and insinuation that everyone thought that Rafael was the rumored boyfriend or sugar daddy Minerva was talking about but then again, most of them knew almost all the people in their circle so they knew who Minerva is and who her brother is, and they all know that Rafael was a car enthusiast. So it was not a surprise to know that he had those two exotic cars that were limited edition and if he had given it to her, it only meant that he really favored Hera and it only made sense why she could afford the car. All the speculation about Hera and how she became so wealthy in just a short week has now become even more difficult to understand but no one wants to question her anymore because she is connected to Rafael and everyone knows of his temper and how ruthless he is and no one wanted to offend such person.
“No! Why would my brother get involved with you?!” Minerva’s voice rose to a hysterical pitch as she directed her accusation at Hera.
“Why don’t you ask him? I wouldn’t know the answer if you asked me.” Hera chuckled, relishing the irony of the situation. Dealing with two individuals who enjoyed manipulating others’ emotions, she felt a sense of poetic justice in turning the tables. However, she grew weary of the game and longed to depart. Athena had been awaiting her for some time, and Hera’s patience wore thin.
As if on cue, Hera felt her other arm gently seized, pulling her from Alexi’s grasp. She stumbled, only to find herself against a sturdy chest, as solid as a wall yet strangely comforting. The scent of mint enveloped her, triggering a wave of familiarity. “Leo?” she blurted without hesitation, her voice betraying a sense of recognition before she even glanced up. A sweet smile adorned her lips as she slowly lifted her gaze.
“I didn’t expect to see you again so soon after just a day being apart,” Leo replied, mirroring Hera’s smile. His gaze, gentle as ever, swept from her face to her other arm, which had been seized by Alexi. Noticing Hera’s reddened skin, Leo’s eyes flashed with cold fury. It was evident that Alexi hadn’t held back his strength when gripping Hera’s arm. Leo’s demeanor shifted, his gaze now brimming with menace. He was seething with anger beyond measure.
