Chapter 201: Chapter 201 I’m Coming Too
As Hera remained silent, seemingly acquiescing to Dave’s words, Leo felt a wave of disappointment wash over him. However, he held onto Hera’s hand, choosing to trust her, believing there must be more to the situation than what Dave had insinuated. On the other hand, Dave frowned as he observed Leo’s unexpected reaction. Rather than giving up, he continued to seek clarification from Hera, indicating his determination to uncover the truth.
Hera also experienced a surge of emotions as Leo didn’t simply accept Dave’s words at face value. In truth, she had considered allowing Leo to believe what he wanted, avoiding the need for a breakup when her relationships with the other male leads progressed. She reasoned it was better to address it sooner rather than later. However, to her surprise, despite Leo’s distress over Dave’s remarks, she still saw trust in his eyes, a belief in her character.
Who wouldn’t be touched by a man like Leo? At that moment, she felt the urge to abandon her plans and choose Leo instead, willing to face whatever challenges came their way. However, unlike in a novel, she wasn’t the protagonist and couldn’t risk the lives of her people, including Leo. She deeply valued Leo and hesitated to hurt him, yet she also couldn’t bear the thought of him leaving her side. It seemed selfish and self-centered, but all Hera could wish for in the world was a man like Leo. His trust moved her deeply, though she couldn’t predict how long he would continue to trust and protect her. What mattered most to her was the present moment they had. This was only a small thought inside Hera’s head.
Hera addressed Mr. Carson with firmness in her voice. “Please, tell me if you’re intentionally damaging my reputation at school,” she demanded, giving Leo’s hand a reassuring squeeze to convey her confidence in him.
Dave’s reaction was immediate; he choked on his own saliva, realizing Hera was distancing herself from him. “How cruel you can be, my dear,” he uttered, his tone oozing with false sweetness as he closed the distance between them. Determined not to lose this chance to get close to Hera, he held on tightly, a fact Hera was acutely aware of. As tension mounted, a headache throbbed in her temples, exacerbated by the sensation of her hands being gripped by two separate men.
“Let go,” Leo’s voice cut through the tension, laced with venom. But Dave remained resolute, meeting Leo’s gaze with equal hostility, refusing to release his grip. Hera found herself trapped between the two men, their increasing tension causing their hold on her hand to tighten unintentionally, driven by the fear of her leaving.
“You two, let go. I need to complete my registration,” Hera sighed with resignation. She was determined to end this spectacle before the entire student body and avoid being the subject of gossip for the rest of the year.
“Then promise to have lunch and dinner with me,” Dave said, pushing his luck to the next level. He was determined not to leave empty-handed. Growing up in an affluent family, he was accustomed to receiving all sorts of courtship from women and getting his way. He had never been turned down before—women usually went wild at his invitations. The only time he experienced a harsh rejection was last night, with Hera. Now, he was determined to get her to agree and simultaneously crush Leo’s hope.
But who was Leo? Having experienced defeat once, he had no intention of accepting another. “Sorry to disappoint you, Mr. Carson, but Hera has already agreed to go out with me,” he lied effortlessly, showing no fear as he stood up to the young minister of the country. Leo’s eyes remained steady, unwavering in his resolve.
Athena, on the other hand, was thoroughly enjoying the spectacle and even considered stoking the fire. However, when she caught Hera’s warning look, recognizing her intentions from a mere smile, she abandoned the idea and simply continued to relish the scene.
Dave looked at Hera with a wounded expression, hoping she would confirm that Leo was lying. But Hera looked away, unwilling to call Leo out and embarrass him in front of everyone, even though she knew he was lying. Seeing Hera’s reaction, Leo felt a surge of relief and happiness. He then turned to Dave with a smug look, a wide grin spreading across his face.
Even Athena could see Hera’s favoritism towards Leo. She was certain that Hera had a good impression of Leo and wasn’t keeping him at arm’s length. Although Hera wasn’t openly fighting for Leo, she was more lenient towards him and even supported him. Athena gave Hera a knowing look and then smiled teasingly. Hera, feeling cornered, looked away again, unsure of where to direct her gaze. She couldn’t possibly turn her back on everyone, could she?
When Leo thought Dave would leave with his tail between his legs, Dave displayed his thick skin once again. “Then I’ll come with you both! I’ll gladly be the third wheel if necessary!” he said through gritted teeth. He had already swallowed his pride and was determined not to let Leo have the last laugh.
He couldn’t accept defeat from Leo or bear to see his smug, victorious look. He felt his last threads of reason snapping for some inexplicable reason.
Both Hera and Leo were stumped, unsure of what to say. They realized that no matter what they said, Dave wouldn’t give up easily and might even show up uninvited. Seeing their silence as acceptance, Dave calmed down a bit and shot Leo a taunting smirk before turning his seductive smile back to Hera.
“My Dear, don’t worry, I’ll serve you well.” The way he delivered his words was easily misunderstood by everyone else and they all looked at Hera with an envious look while Hera was having a headache. Even Leo felt like Dave was an eyesore and acting like a male vixen, trying to steal someone else’s woman right under his nose.
