Chapter 214: Chapter 214 His Worst Fear
Hera, perhaps recalling her earlier reactions, sheepishly smiled as her face turned red once again. She hurriedly stopped Leo from explaining further, worried he might mention her again. “Alright, alright, I’ll believe you this once,” she said, averting her gaze. Leo, meanwhile, was smiling happily.
“Then, will you accept my repayment?” Leo asked mischievously. Now that the opportunity had presented itself, he was determined not to let it slip away. He saw this accident as a chance to secure a place in Hera’s heart. They were no longer strangers; they were unofficial lovers, closer than any of the other male leads had ever gotten. His eyes turned to crescents as he eagerly anticipated Hera’s answer.
Hera found herself in a bind. She wasn’t blind to Leo’s character—he seemed to be a genuinely good man. Despite having a mission, she didn’t want to hurt him. At the same time, she found herself liking him, perhaps because he wasn’t one of the male leads and she could sense that his intentions were pure and he wouldn’t wrong her.
‘Whatever! Let’s just go with the flow then!’ Hera thought, smiling sweetly at Leo. Before she could utter a single word, the door flung open with force, followed by Dave’s loud, angry roar.
“You beast! What have you done to my woman?” Dave rushed to Hera, yanking her by the arm. She stumbled, losing her balance, as she had been sitting on Leo’s lap. The pill bottle she held was still open, and the forceful jerk caused its contents to spill. Almost half of the pills were scattered across the floor, but Dave didn’t care. His eyes were red with anger, and his chest heaved.
Leo remained half-sitting on the couch, his shirt wide open, his suit on the coffee table, and his tie on the floor. To anyone looking, it seemed like they were in the middle of doing the deed.
Hera looked disheveled, with red hickeys on her neck and collarbone. Seeing this, Dave’s rage intensified. He instantly released Hera and swung his fist toward Leo’s face with all his might, aiming to smash Leo’s handsome features and ensure he could no longer get close to Hera.
As the antidote slowly took effect, Leo regained enough control over his body and mind to react. He swiftly evaded Dave’s attack, deftly deflecting Dave’s punch to the side. This maneuver threw Dave off balance since he had put all his strength and weight into the punch. With no target to absorb the blow, Dave stumbled forward and crashed to the floor. Leo, still unsteady and with a hazy head, staggered to stand up, supported by Hera, who helped him regain his footing.
Unlike Hera, who seemed to have consumed only a small amount of the aphrodisiac, Leo appeared to have ingested a much larger dose. Seeing Dave unaffected and still having the strength to pick a fight, Hera realized the contamination likely wasn’t in the food or drinks, but rather something directly smeared on Leo’s utensils or plate.
“You!!!” Dave felt humiliated in front of Hera, and his anger only intensified. Reason left him, and all he wanted was to bash Leo’s face until he felt satisfied. Seeing Dave on the verge of losing his rationality from anger, Hera glanced at the door. Sure enough, the bodyguards sent by Cindy to guard the entrance were all looking down at the floor with pursed lips. They had failed to stop Dave from entering because they were torn between conflicting orders: they were told not to let anyone into the private room without Hera’s permission, but at the same time, they were instructed to fully cooperate with Dave, who was conducting the investigation.
Dave and his people encountered guards stationed at the door of private room 1, preventing entry. Dave immediately suspected Leo of placing them there to isolate Hera and prevent her from seeking help. So, Dave and his men attempted to barge into the room multiple times, but despite their efforts and a fierce struggle with the guards, the door remained steadfastly closed. They fought relentlessly, hoping to create an opportunity to force it open, only to find that the door was exceptionally sturdy and resistant to their efforts.
Faced with the impregnable door and unable to breach it physically, Dave resorted to utilizing the hotel’s management to enforce his authority. They had provided a verbal agreement to fully cooperate with Dave’s investigation, granting him access to all areas within the hotel’s vicinity. This included Private Room 1, where the incident had occurred.
As Dave walked in, his worst fears seemed to be confirmed: Leo appeared to be taking advantage of Hera while she was preoccupied with administering the antidote. A wave of self-blame washed over him for not ensuring Leo had taken the antidote and Hera remained safe before leaving. That’s how Dave interpreted the situation upon entering the room.
When Hera noticed Dave rising to his feet once more, still intent on confronting Leo, she instinctively stepped forward to shield Leo from Dave’s wrath. Fortunately, Dave hadn’t yet made another move to attack Leo. Sensing the escalating tension, Leo quickly reached out and took hold of Hera’s arm, intending to pull her behind him to ensure her safety, realizing Dave’s anger was intensifying and he might not be able to distinguish friend from foe in his rage.
Seeing Hera shield Leo triggered a surge of frustration in Dave akin to swallowing a fly. His chest heaved with anger, but he found himself speechless, his attempts to articulate his thoughts stifled by the overwhelming fury coursing through him. He was utterly incensed.
Before he could unleash his fury, Hera intervened. “Please, just calm down a bit,” she implored, her voice carrying a hint of urgency. “I got drugged too.”
Dave’s rage evaporated, replaced by concern, as he assessed Hera’s well-being. His gaze swept over her, searching for any signs of distress or harm. Before he could voice his worries, Hera redirected her attention to the door. “Take all the utensils, plates, and glasses from my seat and Leo’s seat,” she instructed the guards who had been stationed at the door earlier, her tone authoritative. “Send them to the labs for identification to determine if they were the source of the drug.” Her command was swift and decisive.
The woman who had been serving them earlier stood nearby, ready to assist. Hera didn’t need to specify which seats belonged to her and Leo; the woman guided the guards accordingly. Meanwhile, Hera instructed a waiter to fetch some large zip-lock bags suitable for storing each utensil. With precision, the guards donned white gloves concealed within their suits, as if they were prepared for a crime scene at any moment.
After sealing all the items in ziplock bags, the guards and the woman departed with Dave’s entourage to supervise them, leaving Hera and the two gentlemen to resolve their matters among themselves.
Hera felt a twinge of nervousness as she observed Dave’s tumultuous emotions. He appeared devastated, angry, sad, and deeply concerned. Waiting for Hera to explain the situation, Dave’s expression reflected a mix of emotions, with a hint of resentment towards Leo for his actions. In Dave’s mind, the worst-case scenario loomed large.
