Chapter 215: Chapter 215 Liquid Base
Hera nervously cleared her throat as she gently guided Leo back to the couch. Dave’s unexpected arrival seemed to quell Leo’s earlier burning desire, and now he appeared surprisingly composed despite his disheveled appearance and rumpled clothing. If it weren’t for these telltale signs, one might not suspect that anything had occurred in the room just moments before.
Leo slowly buttoned up his shirt, his gaze shifting apologetically towards Hera. He hadn’t anticipated that Hera had also been drugged, and he found himself pondering how their pleasant meal had taken such a turn. While Leo and Dave had engaged in a playful competition for Hera’s attention, they certainly hadn’t anticipated events unfolding in this manner.
Leo’s voice, though still dry and hoarse, retained its magnetic quality as he began to speak. “Hera, I want to start by apologizing. I failed to control myself, and…” His words trailed off, uncertainty clouding his thoughts. The memory of what had transpired between them remained vivid, and despite his assurance to take responsibility, he couldn’t shake the feeling that mere words were insufficient to rectify the situation.
Leo suddenly realized that Hera had also been affected by the drug. Considering this, it occurred to him that her ability to think clearly would have been compromised. Perhaps her apparent lack of resistance stemmed from the drug’s influence, causing her body to respond involuntarily, seeking a form of release amidst the heated state induced by the substance.
Leo was overwhelmed with guilt, realizing he might have taken advantage of Hera in her vulnerable state, oblivious to the fact that he was equally affected by the drug. Observing Leo’s remorseful demeanor, Dave scoffed disdainfully, doubting Leo’s sincerity and attributing his behavior to an attempt to shift blame onto the drug. Meanwhile, Hera perceived Leo’s genuine self-reproach, which stirred a sense of warmth within her. In her experience, individuals under the drug’s influence often acted impulsively and they wouldn’t even have a chance to think properly and would just follow what their body wants and that is to release., unlike Leo’s reflective response.
While some might resort to harming others to satisfy their immediate desires and alleviate the drug’s effects, Leo demonstrated a different approach. Despite his struggle to maintain control, he prioritized Hera’s well-being, he still tried his best to control himself, and when he couldn’t he at least wanted to make sure that he would be the last to feel good and accommodate Hera first.
It was enough for Hera to believe that Leo has a good intention and is a good man overall, besides, it’s not as if she was entirely blameless in what happened and she let it happen so she can’t just stand idly by while Leo bore the brunt of Dave’s anger, she felt compelled to share the responsibility and defend him against unwarranted blame.
Hera addressed Dave with a calm and composed demeanor. “Dave, what occurred wasn’t anyone’s intention and none of us desired this outcome. Our priority now should be to uncover who orchestrated this and their motives.” She paused, taking a moment to gather her thoughts before continuing. “I acknowledge my own role in what transpired, and we could perceive it as consensual, albeit under the influence of external factors. However, I want to emphasize that my intention isn’t to shield Leo or display favoritism. I simply aim to take responsibility for my actions. We’re all adults here, and this incident was an unfortunate accident. Let’s refrain from assigning blame and focus on resolving the situation at hand.”
Hera’s words had a noticeable effect on Dave, causing him to cease his intense glare at Leo. However, inwardly, he still harbored resentment. His mind raced with speculative thoughts about what might have transpired between Hera and Leo in that enclosed room. Despite recognizing that he had no rightful claim to Hera and that she was not yet his, a possessive instinct stirred within him, already considering her as his own.
He couldn’t reconcile the feeling that someone else had claimed what he perceived as his own. However, this didn’t translate into a rational willingness to concede to Leo. On the contrary, his determination to win Hera’s affection only grew stronger, fueling his animosity towards Leo even more.
He felt tempted to spread the incident among his friends, hoping to garner more support against Leo. Yet, a sense of responsibility prevailed. He realized that such actions would tarnish Hera’s reputation and reflect poorly on himself, portraying him as someone willing to manipulate situations for personal gain. Understanding that Hera wouldn’t approve, he chose to refrain, aware that it would only compound his disadvantages.
Under different circumstances, he might have pursued that course of action without hesitation. However, the gravity of potentially losing Hera’s trust gave him pause. He recognized that regaining her trust, once lost, would be an arduous task. Thus, he opted for caution, emulating Leo’s careful approach. Despite his disdain for Leo, he begrudgingly admired his integrity—a man who wouldn’t evade responsibility or deflect blame. Deep down, he understood Leo’s perspective as a man, yet his animosity clouded his judgment, overshadowing any empathy he might have felt.
In a mere two hours, the lab results arrived and were promptly delivered to Hera’s private room, where she and the others awaited anxiously. The messenger was the same woman who had facilitated the collection of samples earlier. Throughout the hotel, a lockdown was enforced, restricting the movement of both guests and staff. Remarkably, the staff willingly complied, fully aware that their heiress had been targeted. Motivated by a collective sense of outrage and loyalty, they conducted their own investigations in solidarity to help out Hera.
“Youn… Miss, we have collected samples from both your utensils, plate, and glass, along with Mrs. Hendrix’s. It appears that Mr. Hendrix’s glass was positively tainted with a potent aphrodisiac, banned long ago.” She paused, handing the report to Hera before continuing. “According to our findings, the rim of the glass was coated with a liquid-based aphrodisiac. Our team is currently tracking the individual who obtained this substance and reviewing CCTV footage from the kitchen and the route taken by our staff carrying your food and utensils before reaching the room.”
Hera nodded with a furrowed brow, her mind spinning with all the possibilities of why this happened. Now, she also understood how she had been drugged. She could still vividly recall the moment Leo took a sip of wine from his glass. Not long after, his behavior began to shift, prompting her to ask if he was feeling alright.
It became apparent that she had been drugged after Leo kissed her. The drug lingering on his lips had unknowingly transferred to hers, and she had remained oblivious to it. Consequently, she found herself under its influence, succumbing to the desires it stirred within her. Reflecting on this, Hera realized the potency of the aphrodisiac. The trace she had tasted through Leo’s kiss had been potent enough to cloud her judgment entirely. She couldn’t even begin to imagine the strength of will it must have taken for Leo to retain control of his own body.
Learning about the potency of the drug only deepened Hera’s favorable opinion of Leo, but it also stirred a sense of anger within her. Realizing its strength meant understanding its potential lasting effects on Leo. Hera’s guilt weighed heavy; this had happened in her supposed territory. “Call for a doctor immediately,” she instructed, her concern for Leo evident in her tone. “We need to get him tested right away!”
