Chapter 237: Chapter 237 Bry’s Uncle’s Check Up
She is cunning and calculating, yes, but which successful businessman isn’t? She anticipated that others would assume she was worried about them and reluctant to involve them due to uncertainty about their capabilities. This perception actually enhanced Hera’s standing with all the male leads’ hearts, who felt she was genuinely considering their welfare. They were impressed by her continued thoughtfulness and now feel even more motivated to take action. While Hera may remain silent for now, they can always approach Zhane and Dave for details.”
Hera desired this as well. Once Dave and Zhane knew, it was inevitable that the others would find out too. The five of them were like fraternal twins—each independent yet closely connected. They often preferred to act as a unit, much like how they shared a common bond with the same woman.
‘Hell, yeah, I know what you can do. But that’s the more reason why I’m doing this.’
This was all a mind game. She had meticulously planned every detail, contemplating whether to manipulate others into wielding the blade on her behalf, while avoiding getting her hands dirty. However, her conscience would not allow it, so she simply hoped they would be willing to assist, provided they were different people.
She was confident that these five would fulfill her expectations. With others, she would feel remorse for manipulating them, but there was no emotional attachment to these individuals. Despite any mutual interest, she couldn’t shake off the memory of what they might have done to Avery after failing and unite with Alice instead. This outcome remained a possibility, so she felt no hesitation in using them now.
However, Leo, silently seated beside her, found it amusing that the weaker side would extend a helping hand, especially when he himself was willing to sacrifice his life for Hera. The alliance of their families alone was formidable enough to overpower anyone, both domestically and internationally.
He chose to remain silent, allowing Hera to decide for herself. He refused to exert control over her, fully aware of her capabilities. Instead, he committed to following her lead and supporting her in every decision she made.
Now that everyone understood Hera’s reluctance to involve them in the mess, they silently resolved to assist her without pressuring her for details. However, they were convinced that whatever unfolded was closely tied to Leo, and he likely stood to gain from it—this was the root of Dave’s current hostility.
They didn’t pay much attention to what Dave might have done in Hera’s penthouse last night, as they could address that privately and establish ground rules. They valued their friendship and were reluctant to let a woman come between them. If no one was willing to yield, they might consider sharing her to maintain harmony. However, they acknowledged Leo’s uniqueness; unlike them, he might not settle for shared arrangements, and unlike themselves, he might refuse to share at all, leaving them with nothing.
This, alongside the persistent feeling nagging at their minds, is one of the reasons they are hostile towards him.
They enjoyed a pleasant chat, oblivious to the harmonious atmosphere pervading the room. While the others conversed and laughed, Leo attentively tended to Hera. They didn’t notice how effortlessly Leo integrated into their friend group, blending in as if he had always belonged. It wasn’t until they returned home and reminisced about their time with Hera that they realized Leo had subtly maneuvered into the role of the gracious host and Hera’s main husband, acting gracious and tolerant of the side pieces or mistresses.
Shortly after, Hera finished her IV drip and was ready for discharge. Coincidentally, Bry, his father, and his uncle had just arrived at the hospital for Zhane’s consultation. Despite everyone’s reluctance to let her wander and insistence that she go straight home to rest, she chose to accompany Zhane after her discharge.
“Are you sure you want to go?” Leo asked gently as he supported her, with Dave already handling her discharge procedure.
“Yes, I promised Bry that I would be there. They might be nervous,” Hera said, smiling sweetly at Leo, feeling more connected to him than before.
“But you should stay here until the examination is over. I’ll visit you later, okay?” Hera didn’t realize she sounded like a concerned girlfriend, though it came off a bit nagging. Leo smiled broadly, happy with the feeling. Meanwhile, Zhane and the others watched with somber expressions, jealousy swirling in their chests.
They all felt as though Hera was slipping away right before their eyes, helpless to intervene. The reason for their frustration was that Zhane hadn’t informed them about his request for Hera to give each of them an equal opportunity to court her. With no opportunity to disclose this information, they remained unaware. If they had known, their reactions might have been quite different.
“Alright, I’ll listen to you. I’ll wait in my room,” Leo said with a smile that remained constant. He continued to escort Hera, whose smaller stature made it difficult for passersby to catch a glimpse of her amidst the towering men acting as her protective barrier.
Despite this, passersby couldn’t help but glance in their direction. The men surrounding Hera looked dashingly handsome, and even catching just a glimpse of her silhouette, she appeared ethereally beautiful, complementing the group. Onlookers speculated that they were witnessing a film shoot in the hospital, with Hera and her entourage resembling actors performing a scene.
“I’ll come with you to support Bry and his family,” Xavier spoke up from behind Hera, gently twirling her long hair. He, too, wanted to support Hera like Leo did, but Zhane stood so close to the other side of her that no one could replace him. Perhaps if he weren’t at work, he might have held Hera’s hand and supported her just like Leo did.
Xavier sighed in resignation, feeling he couldn’t keep up with the others.
“Alright, let’s go together,” Hera replied with a slight glance back, offering Xavier a smile.
Seeing her smile and agree with him, Xavier’s gloomy mood was replaced by a smile. Soon after, they arrived in front of Zhane’s office where Bry and his family stood, accompanied by a nurse waiting for Zhane to arrive.
Seeing Hera and other familiar faces, Bry’s face lit up, and he hurried closer to greet her. “Sister, you’re here!!!” he exclaimed excitedly, reaching out as if to hold Hera’s hand, but finding himself surrounded by tall men who blocked his access. Looking up at their impassive faces, he realized none would yield to a child and could only nod in understanding.
Hera was also a little stumped because no one really wanted to yield their position, so she awkwardly asked. “How was your stay here in the city?”
Hearing her question, Bry’s face lit up, forgetting everything else as his lips stretched into a wide grin, his eyes crinkling with joy. “Your friend’s place was amazing, sister! It was so big and cozy, and I slept like a log,” he exclaimed animatedly. “Early this morning, Father gave us a tour around the city, and we ate delicious food and played some great games before coming here!” His hands waved in the air as he recounted the story, his excitement evident in his voice and actions, his eyes sparkling with mirth.
