Chapter 240: Chapter 240 Cook For You 2
Leo couldn’t help but roll his eyes at Xavier, clearly aware of Xavier’s deliberate attempt to disrupt the positive atmosphere between him and Hera. Despite Xavier’s outwardly sincere smile and apologetic look, Leo saw through his intentions.
Leo wanted to snort at Xavier for being so good at pretending but then he remembered that he was also pretending to be pitiful in front of Hera so he could get her attention to himself.
They both wielded their expressions with such finesse that any emotion they wished to convey seemed entirely authentic. Despite Hera noticing the competitive tension resurfacing between them, each striving to outdo the other in appearing more pitiable, she opted to quietly withdraw to the kitchen. There, she allowed the two children to engage in their unspoken rivalry, focusing instead on her own tasks.
Hera chuckled softly to herself, finding the thought running through her head surprisingly pleasant and amusing. It occurred to her that with these kinds of people around her, her days wouldn’t feel as bland and monotonous. They had a way of stirring up unpredictable emotions in her, particularly Leo, which always kept her feeling intrigued and somewhat jittery.
Her emotions were a constant swirl of guilt, resentment, and occasional dislike towards the male leads, keeping her mind in perpetual motion and making her feel constantly occupied, yet her thoughts remained sharp. Uncertain whether she enjoyed this mental state, Hera couldn’t deny its ability to surprise her with unexpected insights and outcomes from the people around her.
Maybe if she stopped thinking of them as her enemies and someone who owes her, maybe she’d find herself surprised when she interacts with the male leads again, like how her life in the Variety Show turned out to be when she was interacting with Xavier.
It was carefree and fun. Thinking about this, she decided to try this instead, have a small change in herself but that doesn’t mean that she would let her guard down, she would still be cautious but being paranoid is one thing and exhausting her mental health too.
Now that she decided to do this, she clearly felt the difference, as if a heavy load was lifted from her shoulders.
She went to the kitchen and searched the fridge for ingredients, pleasantly surprised to find everything she needed, all fresh and ready to use. Little did she know, Leo had already arranged for his subordinate to stock the fridge with ingredients, showing his preparedness and subtle plan to entice Hera into cooking for him all along.
This was the first time he had been hospitalized like this, and he was excited about the idea of playing the role of a loving couple with Hera when she mentioned visiting him. He had already imagined many scenarios in his head, only to have them disrupted by Xavier. Fortunately, Leo was determined to proceed with his plan despite the interruption.
Oh, how he wished he could send Xavier away so he could happily spend time with his future wife, free from any distractions or annoyances.
He ignored Xavier, who sat beside him staring blankly at Hera, lost perhaps in memories from their time on the Variety Show, a faint smile playing on his lips. Eventually, Xavier stood up and went directly to Hera, assisting her with the ingredients as he always did.
Oh, he was seething with frustration. He wanted nothing more than to join them in the kitchen, acting affectionate with Hera, just like they had done during the celebratory feast in the village.
However, he realized that joining them might not be helpful and could actually annoy Hera, especially since he was supposed to be resting and playing the role of the pitiful patient. Leo regretted playing that role now; all he wanted was to be in the kitchen with her, cooking together. His mind raced with these thoughts, and seeing Xavier standing so close to Hera only fueled his frustration. He grabbed the magazine beside him, trying to distract himself from the situation.
Then, as if a light bulb had lit up in his head, Leo smirked mischievously as he reached for his phone and sent a text message.
[Leo: Come up with a plan to send Xavier to ambassadorial duties promoting our international jewelry collection. Keep him engaged in that role for as long as you can manage.]
Who said he couldn’t use his power to mess with his love rivals? With that thought in mind, Leo cleared his head of distractions and patiently awaited his assistant to work their magic.
[Terry: Sir, when should I send him away?]
[Leo: ASAP!]
[Terry: On it sir.]
Leo took one last glance at the kitchen counter, a mischievous smirk playing on his lips. He then contentedly turned the page of the magazine, settling in to wait.
As expected, Xavier’s phone began to ring repeatedly, but he continued to ignore it, eventually silencing the calls altogether. Leo was confident that Hera wouldn’t tolerate Xavier ignoring what appeared to be an urgent matter just to assist her. He waited patiently on the sidelines, anticipating Hera would soon send Xavier away.
Sure enough, when Hera heard Xavier’s phone ring for the third time and saw him silence it before returning to washing the ingredients in the sink, she turned to him. “Brother Xavier, please go and attend to your work. I can manage this on my own.”
Xavier’s body stiffened as he turned to face Hera, sensing her determination to send him away to attend to his duties. He pursed his lips, trying to come up with an excuse to linger, reluctant to leave Leo and Hera alone together. He felt uneasy knowing Leo had already found a place in Hera’s heart and worried about what might transpire if he left them unsupervised.
“It’s alright, I can handle things here, you really should go.” Hera then started pushing Xavier out of the kitchen and shot him a stern glare showing that she would get angry if he kept on being stubborn.
Xavier stood beside the dining table, Hera’s firm stance leaving him no room to return to the kitchen. Glancing up, he caught Leo’s gaze fixed on the kitchen counter, feigning interest in a magazine. Their eyes met, and Xavier noticed Leo’s sly smirk directed at him, a clear indication that Leo had something planned.
Xavier stepped out to answer the call, but Leo remained unsatisfied and wanted to ensure that every possibility was covered. He proceeded to send a series of messages to his assistant to secure his plan.
[Leo: Wasn’t there a Korean dignitary visiting our country? Have him pester Dave to arrange a meeting for the land conservation discussion regarding the heritage sites. If Dave avoids the Korean dignitary, send them Dave’s location.]
[Leo: Ensure we secure the bidding for investment partnership with the rising gaming company from the Greysons. Let that girl continue to press Luke for a marriage alliance. If Luke ignores her, send her his location too.]
[Leo: Also, ensure more scandals are released for Star Ocean Entertainment’s top artist. If you can’t find any, dig deeper until you uncover something substantial, then publish it and make it as big as possible. This will also put pressure on Xavier to follow his company’s arrangements, especially since he’s currently with Rafael’s company.]
