Chapter 248: Chapter 248 First Day of School
Hera hurriedly exited Luke’s apartment as if she were being chased by a dog, with Luke following behind, laughing loudly and clearly enjoying teasing her. Her face flushed with embarrassment as she realized she could have handled the situation better. She had become flustered by the unmistakable sex appeal of the main male lead.
“I’m sure he did that on purpose!” Hera exclaimed, stomping her foot in frustration as the elevator descended to the basement. However, she quickly reminded herself not to dwell on it. “No use crying over spilled milk,” she thought, clearing her mind. ‘Out of sight, out of mind.’
This time, with her Lamborghini Veneno Roadster exposed in the picture, the paparazzi would surely be lying in wait outside Green Dragon Manor, her workplace and campus, eager to interview her about the trending topic. They would easily recognize the three cars already showcased online. With her Pagani Codalunga still in the repair shop, using the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster or Bugatti Mistral was out of the question. The Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail, as open as the Bugatti Mistral, would make her instantly recognizable to everyone.
She decided to use her Bugatti La Voiture Noire to avoid being easily recognized. Even when passing by the gate, the reporters wouldn’t realize it was her and swarm her.
Why was she even going to such lengths when she had just debuted? Hera knew it was because Minerva was determined to crush her before she could rise to stardom like Alexi. It was easier to sabotage her while her career was still in its infancy. This scandal was likely Minerva’s doing, and Hera was certain that Minerva had already dispatched paparazzi to those locations to ambush her. In the worst-case scenario, some people might even disguise themselves as Alexi’s fans to throw rotten apples or, even worse, acid at her.
She knew she was being pessimistic, but it was better to be well-prepared than caught off guard.
Driving her Bugatti La Voiture Noire out of the parking lot, she leisurely made her way through the Green Dragon Manor’s road toward the main gate. Just then, she received a call from Cindy, reminding her that she hadn’t seen her when she left that morning.
“Hello, Cindy?” Hera’s crisp, clear voice broke the silence in her car.
“Young Miss, we’ve found some suspicious individuals lurking around Green Dragon Manor. They tried to blend in with the crowd and were hiding sulfuric acid. We’ve apprehended them, and I’ve dispatched more personnel to discreetly guard you around your campus and wherever you go,” Cindy reported grimly.
Even though she had anticipated this due to Athena’s warning, Hera still felt a chill run down her spine. She couldn’t believe there were such vicious people in the world. Using sulfuric acid—just to ruin her face? But why? What could possibly drive someone to such lengths?
The mere thought of it made Hera’s limbs turn cold and her hands clammy. “Alright, I’ll leave this matter to you,” she said, her voice slightly shaky. She exhaled, releasing her frustration and mounting fear, and composed herself.
“Don’t worry, Young Miss, we’ll do our best to protect you,” Cindy reassured her before continuing. “And Gerald asked me to inform you that Tyler Lennon has committed numerous despicable acts targeting the heiresses of prominent families with only one female successor in their lineage. He’s still gathering the full scope of the matter and compiling a list of those families.” Cindy’s voice was laced with disdain and disgust; just recalling what Gerald had said made her so angry she wanted to confront Tyler Lennon herself.
She hadn’t realized there could be such a disgusting man in the world. Though she only summarized the information for Hera, what she heard from Gerald had been more detailed and vivid, leaving her skin still crawling with fear and disgust.
Hera frowned. If Tyler was targeting heiresses from families with only female successors, why Athena? She had a brother. Was it because she had the support of two powerful families, and the benefits she could offer were substantial enough for him to overlook her brother’s existence?
“Alright, keep up the good work,” Hera said calmly and composedly, though inwardly she felt a turmoil of emotions.
Thanks to her preparedness and Cindy’s timely reminder, Hera arrived at her campus without any issues and managed to evade the paparazzi’s attention. However, due to the ongoing trending topic, news about her had spread among the university students, making her more widely known. This newfound attention had made her increasingly popular in various ways, but public opinion of her remained divided among both citizens and the university students on campus.
As Hera stepped out of her car, she noticed students whispering and talking animatedly around her. Pretending not to be affected would be a lie, but she understood that entering the entertainment world meant facing such attention and the possibility of scandals.
Her rapid rise in popularity among the citizens made her a perceived threat, and jealousy brewed among those who learned about the caliber of suitors she attracted. Her priority now was safeguarding her image to ensure it wouldn’t hinder her as she prepared to step out and be introduced to the masses as the rightful heiress of the Avery Consortium.
Hera didn’t linger in the parking area and headed straight to the large event center in the heart of the university. Typically used by the theater arts department for their monthly performances, the venue was repurposed for events like the freshman welcoming ceremony or guest speakers, relegating the theater arts students to a smaller theater during such times.
Although it was the first day of school, the only events aside from the welcoming ceremony were club recruitment activities. Hera was there primarily to mark her attendance, gather any instructions from professors, and see if there was anything she needed to prepare before classes began. Additionally, she wanted to get to know her new and old classmates.
“Excuse me, miss! Could you tell me where the event center is?” someone asked, tapping Hera on the shoulder.
“Are you a freshman?” Hera inquired with an amiable smile. The freshman smiled back, but he was so tall that Hera had to look up to meet his eyes, which were hidden behind thick glasses and bangs. His black hair was unkempt like a bird’s nest, and he wore black jeans and a black hooded jacket while clutching his backpack.
He had the typical look of a nerd, but his voice was cool and clear.
“You can follow me; I’m headed that way too,” Hera said, gesturing for the tall freshman to follow her. To her surprise, other freshmen who had been watching nearby also began to follow her like ducklings trailing their mother. It was understandable—the campus was so large that it would take a whole day to walk around every department, and it was difficult for freshmen to navigate without guidance.
They had all been meaning to ask for directions, but everyone they encountered was too busy to stop and help. Fortunately, one brave soul among them gathered the courage to ask—and even approached the most beautiful girl he saw, which they found quite bold. If they didn’t know better, they might have thought the nerdy student was trying to hit on their senior. Luckily, Hera didn’t take offense. Instead, she happily guided them to the event center like a tour guide, pointing out various places and explaining which departments they belonged to along the way.
