Chapter 254: Chapter 254 Manager Meet My Friend 2
“Seems like I can’t hide anything from you, huh?” Betty said playfully, tapping her teacup thoughtfully. “I’ve prepared a detailed career plan for you, and rest assured, our company values transparency and integrity. We steer clear of anything that could tarnish our artists’ reputations. As for the roles you’re eyeing, consider it done. I will assist you every step of the way.” She smiled confidently, reassuring Hera that fulfilling her requests was straightforward and within their capabilities.
“It seems like we’re aligned on your career development. However, what are your thoughts on the scandal circulating about you early this morning?” Betty asked, her expression neutral yet attentive as she observed Hera closely.
Hera sensed that Betty was testing her, though she wasn’t certain of its purpose. Despite this, she chose honesty in her response. “Most artists encounter a scandal or two. For someone like me, with a clear conscience, a scandal signifies one thing—I’m ascending rapidly, and some wish to impede my progress,” Hera stated boldly. She calmly sipped her tea and graciously offered Logan a piece of egg tart, though he seemed hesitant to even meet her gaze, unsure if he should continue listening to their conversation.
Hera’s composed explanation spoke volumes, prompting Betty to chuckle softly as she inquired, “So, how do you propose we address this? Our PR department is standing by.”
Hera understood Betty’s intent—to empower her to handle the scandal as she saw fit, while subtly assuring her support. It was a lesson in autonomy and responsibility: if Hera couldn’t resolve the issue herself, Betty would step in to ensure it was resolved.
This responsibility typically falls on her manager’s shoulders, but Betty also aimed to make Hera aware of the challenges of handling scandals. Her goal was to encourage Hera to be more vigilant in keeping matters discreet and to equip her with the knowledge to address similar situations independently in the future. Betty emphasized that relying solely on their manager to clean up any messes isn’t always feasible. Therefore, she wanted Hera to approach such situations thoughtfully, considering alternatives before making irreversible online responses.
This approach that Betty wanted was indeed a double edge sword and may not work, but that is only for others, she has a deep belief that Hera would be able to manage it and was outstanding enough to do so, and all her other A-list artists gone through this before too but that was in the middle of their career, unlike Hera who needs to go through this process when she just started and when she should be most protected as a newbie.
However, Betty held such a high opinion of Hera that she couldn’t fathom her failing this time.
With serene composure, Hera met Betty’s gaze and responded, “I reviewed the trending topics this morning, and everything appears to be under control. Nevertheless, I’ve also dispatched someone to gather more information on the matter.”
Hera paused to take a sip of tea before continuing, “I believe allowing this topic to fester for a day or two won’t cause much harm. Instead, it could increase my visibility, and my fans are doing an excellent job redirecting the masses to watch the video of me on the Variety Show. This is also boosting the post-production royalties of the show. Interestingly, Xavier’s fans have joined in, amplifying the efforts of my supporters to clear my name. However, I understand this alone won’t be enough, as it could still cause permanent damage to my reputation.”
She placed her cup on the saucer, crossed her legs, and rested her hands on her lap. “But what I have prepared in retaliation won’t just catch one fish—it will net the big ones who keep bothering me,” Hera said with a mysterious smile.
Betty felt a surge of excitement. Initially, she had only wanted Hera to outline her plan, not expecting her to have already devised a counterattack in just one morning.
“So, you already have a suspect in mind who’s trying to undermine you?” Betty asked, seeking confirmation.
“Yes, and I want to use this opportunity to retaliate against another enemy who wronged me and my people,” Hera said matter-of-factly, as if unbothered. She knew her reputation, closely tied to the Avery family as their sole heiress, couldn’t afford to be tarnished. Her enemies, eager to drag her through the mud, wouldn’t hesitate to use any means necessary. If she only worried about her reputation and didn’t retaliate, the attacks would escalate. Moreover, she couldn’t avoid being involved with more than just one person; there were five male leads to contend with, potentially including Leo in the future.
This kind of scandal was inevitable. What she needed to do was gradually introduce her involvement with the six gentlemen to the public, just as Alice had done.
She believed that the male leads were far from ideal as lifelong partners. If she had a choice, she would pick Leo without hesitation. However, many lives depended on her, and she valued too many people to think solely of her own happiness.
“Alright, it seems like you have a clear plan. Just inform our PR department of your course of action, and we’ll work with you,” Betty said with full confidence. She felt reassured that her faith in Hera was well-placed; Hera wasn’t someone who could be easily bullied, and putting all her eggs in one basket with Hera had been the perfect decision.
“And now, what about this young man?” Betty asked, shifting her attention to Logan, who had been sitting silently throughout their discussion.
Logan, who had been quietly eating his egg tart, was caught off guard when Betty directed her attention to him. He inhaled sharply, with the egg tart still in his mouth, causing him to cough hard. Struggling to clear the itch in his throat without spitting out the egg tart, he found himself in a rather awkward predicament.
He ended up tearing up from the effort, prompting Hera to gently rub his back and hand him his teacup. Hera sighed in defeat. Logan was a big man with the courage of a mouse, and she wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry at the sight. It felt like she was looking after a timid younger brother, despite his intimidating height.
“Alright, don’t be too nervous,” Hera said with a sigh. She turned her attention back to Betty after Logan had finally cleared his windpipe with a gulp of tea.
“I brought a friend to see if his songs meet your standards,” Hera said casually.
“Oh? Is he a singer?” Betty asked, her interest piqued, amusement evident in her eyes.
“He’s a singer and composer,” Hera corrected.
Betty’s face lit up with a wide grin, her eyes sparkling. She had been concerned because while their company boasted many great actors, they lacked aspiring singer-artists or composers. The demand was high, and they needed fresh talent to invigorate their ranks.
Glancing at her wristwatch and noting it was still a little early, she stood up from her seat. “Do you have a CD sample with you? If not, we can just put him in front of a microphone,” Betty suggested.
Hera chuckled softly at Betty’s excitement, feeling her own anticipation rise. This was the moment of truth—if she had been mistaken or merely dreaming with her eyes wide open, she risked embarrassing herself in front of Betty and dampening Betty’s enthusiasm. Moreover, she worried about potentially hurting Logan more than helping him. Now, her excitement was tinged with apprehension and nervousness.
