Chapter 287: Chapter 287 Is Rafael Getting Swayed?
Gerald smirked, misinterpreting Hera’s intense interest as jealousy and a desire to protect the men she was interested in. He couldn’t resist turning into a gossipy aunt, leaning in to share the juicy details without any suspense.
“That’s actually the cream of the crop, Young Miss,” he said with a gleam in his eye.
“I believe that’s exactly what Alice was hoping for,” Gerald chuckled mockingly.
“It didn’t happen?” Hera asked, her curiosity piqued as she leaned in closer to Gerald, eager to know what had transpired.
“My men reported that after Rafael ordered his guards to prevent anyone from visiting Minerva and to monitor her constantly, he even assigned a female bodyguard to ensure Minerva wouldn’t sneak out. She’s managed to do that before, after all,” Gerald explained, enjoying Hera’s anticipation.
“Rafael Briley left their mansion in a huff after he had threatened his sister, promising to blacklist her boyfriend, Alexi, if she even tried to defy him. And let me tell you, he doesn’t make empty threats. His sister knew that, so in a moment of anger, she screamed at him, revealing just how bratty she really is.”
“But Rafael Briley is a tough shell to crack. He didn’t care and left his sister to go to work. That’s when Alice arrived at their porch, tear-stained and desperate. She knelt in front of Rafael, begging him to be lenient with Minerva, saying she was still young and immature and currently learning to be patient and kind. Alice even asked him to give Minerva more time to change, subtly trying to put all the blame on you. She claimed you provoked Minerva during the school registration and that Minerva was only teaching you a lesson for getting close and intimate with a junior after being involved with many sugar daddies.”
Gerald then cackled. “They didn’t even realize that Rafael was one of those men they were calling sugar daddies. They dug their own grave by indirectly calling you promiscuous. Rafael stared at her for a moment before storming off, leaving Alice groveling on the ground, unsure whether to stand up or not. She looked shocked, to say the least, as Rafael didn’t even try to help her up, contrary to her expectations.” Gerald looked pleased as he recounted the tale.
But Hera remained silent after hearing everything. Rafael’s reaction could be due to many reasons, and she couldn’t determine if he stormed away because he had conflicting feelings involving Alice or if he was having second thoughts about his love interest.
Or if he was so angry that he couldn’t even say a word. It could also be that he would rather take action than speak because he didn’t see Alice as significant, just his sister’s sidekick.
But Rafael was usually more confrontational. He had personally gone to Hera to warn her not to be too harsh with his sister, even when it was his sister’s fault to begin with. He had been willing to let go of $100 million just to make a deal for his sister’s sake.
So, his lack of action against Alice could imply several things, none of which boded well for her. The more she pondered the possibilities, the more overwhelmed she felt, fearing her efforts might be in vain.
Despite knowing it might be the case, she hadn’t figured out another solution yet. So, perhaps instead of putting all her eggs in one basket, she should diversify her efforts and have multiple plans ready in case things go awry.
And what better way to do that than to increase her own influence, focus on her career, and apply the theories she learned in school to practical use in business?
After calming herself and putting aside thoughts of uncertain possibilities, Hera regained her composure. She still needed to assess her influence over Rafael and confirm whether he would truly stay out of her way if she chose to confront Minerva.
And his decision to place Minerva under house arrest indicated that he was aware of Minerva’s schemes and involvement in the scandal against Hera. Therefore, he couldn’t fault Hera for being firm in teaching his sister a lesson.
And he might even have placed Minerva under house arrest as a subtle way to protect her from Hera’s potential retaliation. Rafael likely understood that if Hera took action, Minerva would become a target of ridicule in their society. So, he might have been considering a discreet method of safeguarding his sister without drawing too much attention and appearing as if he was taking back his words.
And with this realization, Hera felt a pang of disappointment towards Rafael, even though she had started to believe they were growing closer, even with Minerva between them. She quickly pushed these emotions aside and relegated her thoughts to the recesses of her mind. ‘Out of sight, out of mind,’ she silently repeated to herself, determined not to be consumed by overthinking.
Gerald noticed Hera’s change in mood, understanding her dissatisfaction with how Rafael handled the situation. He sighed inwardly, feeling for Rafael Briley. If Gerald had to choose sides, he wouldn’t hesitate to side with Hera. He even considered that Rafael might become one of his future bosses if Hera and he were to get together, but that thought quickly faded into the background.
“Young Miss, do you plan to teach Minerva a lesson?” Gerald inquired.
“What else? She seemed to not get how deadly online persecution is and kept on pushing my buttons and I’m sure that if she was given a chance, she would even try to push me to the edge of the cliff to my death.” Hera said, not even changing her expression, after all, she already knew that Minerva was really capable of such.
“then, what do we do? Please instruct me, Young Miss.” Gerald politely asked as he lowered his head in submission.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already prepared the materials I’ll need and I’m just waiting for the right moment to release them. I’ll ask UE to help me publicize it,” Hera said with an evil smirk, tapping her finger on the table.
If there’s one thing she has learned, that is, not to be too nice to your enemy. Because it was not true that if you gave them a chance, they might come around and become your friends. That action would only the death of you because you are giving free rein to your enemy to stab you from the back when you least expected it.
“Alright, let’s move on from this topic. I need to get back to Luke before my absence raises suspicion. Keep monitoring the Lennons and those families under their influence. Let me know if you uncover anything else.” With those final instructions, Hera stood up decisively and left the room.
Hera felt like she needed to up her game if she didn’t want to be consumed by the storyline.
Hera went back nervously to the room where Luke was waiting, she nervously opened the door and saw that Luke was silently sitting on his chair while playing with his phone, she didn’t know what he was doing or what he was thinking.
She then cleared her throat nervously and said. “Erm, Luke, I’m so sorry to keep you waiting, I didn’t know that I would be taking too long on the phone. You know girls could be a little more talkative even when they just talk for hours.”
