Chapter 289: Chapter 289 The Desperate Alexi
Because she didn’t mingle with her classmates, most of the girls in her class saw her as snobbish and disliked her, believing she was just a pretty face with a powerful backer helping her rise like a phoenix. Jealousy ran in some of the women’s blood due to Hera’s likeability among the men, who appreciated a hardworking beauty with brains.
Most still belittled her and didn’t think highly of her due to the scandal that portrayed her private life as wretched. Some even assumed that she was in a hurry to leave to manage her sugar daddies’ schedules and cater to all of them.
Hera noticed their judgmental eyes but her schedule was packed, and she had better things to do than argue with them. If they didn’t like her, she wouldn’t lower herself to become likable to everyone. As Athena always said, ‘You can’t make everyone like you. Even if there are hundreds of reasons to like you, bitter people will find thousands of reasons not to.’
After reminding herself and clearing her mind of unnecessary thoughts, Hera’s class ended at 5 PM. Most students were heading back to their dorms, the library, or just passing time before their evening classes began.
But Hera was in a hurry to leave the university campus to meet her acting tutor. She was a little excited and full of anticipation about how things would go, hoping she could at least meet the minimum expectations in her acting lessons.
Although she loved acting, she didn’t want to become complacent or think too highly of herself just because she could act. She couldn’t even tell if her level of acting was comparable to B-listers, or maybe she simply didn’t want to be arrogant.
Hera strode to the parking lot to get her car when suddenly, the book in her arms fell to the floor. She had been yanked around to face the person behind her. Surprise was an understatement; Hera was shocked. She had been so focused on her thoughts that she hadn’t noticed someone stalking her.
Hera was caught by surprise when she was suddenly yanked around to face the person standing behind her. The abrupt movement made her feel a little dizzy, and she didn’t notice the crowd that had gathered, with some even recording the scene.
It took her a moment to steady herself. Her arm was gripped tightly and raised to shoulder level, causing her discomfort. She followed the hand gripping her arm up to its owner.
Sure enough, no one besides Alexi would be so arrogant as to act like she owed them the world. He glared at her with daggers, his heaving breaths causing his nostrils to flare like a bull’s. In the past, this might have intimidated Hera into fearing she had done something wrong and jeopardized her role in the storyline.
Now, however, things were different. Hera raised an eyebrow as she looked at Alexi. She didn’t need to say anything to express her displeasure or to silently demand an explanation for his treatment of her.
Moreover, when Alexi saw Hera’s beautiful face contorted in displeasure, as though his touch was something repulsive to endure, he felt a surge of anger welling up inside him. He couldn’t bear being treated like he was nothing by Hera; the sting in his heart was palpable. He wanted to shout at her, but he also knew it would accomplish nothing.
He had already acknowledged that Hera had changed. She wasn’t the “yes sir” type of girl she used to be, which had made him feel in control, stroking his masculinity.
But he still believed Hera would come around because they had spent three years together. During those years, he had been loyal and treated her fairly. It was only after meeting Minerva that he changed somewhat, but he believed it was a small price to pay to advance. Afterward, he thought Hera would still enjoy the benefits of his success without needing to work for her entire life, remaining a mere trophy wife at home, waiting for him with legs wide open.
Yes, Alexi was misogynistic, as were his parents. Compared to his father, Alexi was relatively mild; he showed affection and didn’t mentally or physically abuse Hera. In his mind, he considered himself a mild case compared to his father, and he believed he was already doing Hera a favor by treating her this way.
His twisted mind could only accommodate what he wanted, disregarding Hera’s desires, believing she should obediently follow him.
Now that Hera stood before him again, he felt an urge to forcefully kiss her, to bind her to his bed so she couldn’t escape or be linked to another man. Just reading that article had stirred Alexi’s jealousy to its core.
He wanted to end his relationship with Minerva if that would stop Hera’s anguish, but his alter ego stopped him. He had come too far to suddenly halt everything; all his hard work would crumble, leaving him with nothing.
So, as much as he wanted to fuck Hera right there and then, he couldn’t move his muscle, his gaze was wavering but his heart was beating so fast, he knew that Minerva was grounded and can’t come to him because Alice had already informed him, and he took this chance to meet Hera to talk things out between them while disguising it as him talking to Hera so she wouldn’t ask Rafael to punish his sister.
For some reason, Alexi had convinced himself that Hera was with Rafael as a way to get back at him. However, he hadn’t shared this suspicion with Minerva. Despite lacking evidence of any involvement between Hera and Rafael, Alexi, as a man, sensed a certain dynamic between them that troubled him.
Hera stared at Alexi, his eyes swirling with a tumultuous mix of emotions as he looked at her as if he were battling with himself over what to do next. Not wanting to wait around for him to speak, she felt repulsed by his touch and swiftly flung his arm off hers.
“I don’t have time for this,” Hera muttered before turning to pick up her books. But before she could crouch down, Alexi grabbed her arm again and pulled her closer, causing Hera to stumble and crash into his body. His strong masculine perfume instantly overwhelmed her senses.
She couldn’t help but compare Alexi’s scent to that of the male leads and Leo’s. The male leads didn’t use strong perfume, preferring cologne that complemented them perfectly. Alexi, on the other hand, seemed to overcompensate with heavy perfume, trying to emulate their refined fragrance.
Alexi smirked as Hera accidentally touched his chest while trying to regain her balance. Proud of his physique, he knew many girls admired his abs and strong chest. Little did he know, Hera was mentally calling herself blind at that moment.
‘I was so sure that Alexi has one of the most outstanding bodies out there, but now that I’m touching it again, I’m, suddenly feel that I was so blind before, was it because of the rose-tinted glasses reserved for me as I was supposed to be in love with him according to the storyline? Because right now, I can’t even feel anything touching his chest, if anything, my mind was wandering to the male lead’s chest and body and especially Leo’s.’ Hera’s eyes fluttered the moment Leo’s sexy image entered her brain.
