Chapter 298: Chapter 298 You’ve Grown So Much
In the end, Rafael resolved to stand firmly by his convictions. He understood that reasoning with his sister would be futile at this point, as she was closed off and unwilling to entertain anything that contradicted her beliefs.
And Rafael was aware that despite successfully sending his parents overseas, his father still held a firm grip on the company and its people, who would undoubtedly support him in overseeing his daughter and reining in Rafael if he crossed a line. Rafael understood that his father’s apparent compliance was temporary, waiting to see how things unfolded and how Rafael handled his sister before potentially intervening.
Rafael vaguely grasped Hera’s intentions regarding Alexi, understanding that it could implicate his sister. However, he wasn’t inclined to shield Minerva from the consequences of her actions. Instead, he saw it as an opportunity for her to fully experience those consequences, potentially using it as a reason to send her abroad for a broader perspective. Rafael suspected that Minerva’s worldview was narrow, confined to a small well, where she perceived everything she knew as all there was to know.
Rafael believed that sending Minerva overseas would expose her to genuine hardships, independent of her family’s influence and privilege. He hoped this experience would show her the limits of relying solely on her background and power to achieve her desires. In doing so, she might realize her vulnerability without familial support and understand that Alexi wasn’t the only person capable of defining her world.
Once he successfully sent Minerva overseas, Alexi would lose his primary supporter, and he wouldn’t be as audacious as he currently was with Minerva backing him. Rafael understood the influence Alexi had over Minerva and the lengths to which she went to support him.
Now that Rafael had a clearer view of his plan and the desired outcome when he arrived home, he headed straight to his office and called his father, who was enjoying the view of the clear waters in the Maldives with his wife.
“Son, what’s the reason for your call at this hour?” Rafael’s father’s voice carried a hint of sarcasm and amusement.
Rafael remained undeterred and said, “Dad, I anticipate Minerva will face backlash from the public for her actions against Alexi’s ex-girlfriend, and our stocks, including mine, may take a hit. It’s highly likely this will also lead to her boyfriend’s downfall.”
“And?” There was a pause on both ends before Rafael’s father continued, “I know there’s more to this. Are you planning to exacerbate the situation so Minerva’s boyfriend meets his downfall? Wouldn’t that just make him cling to Minerva even more for her status?”
Rafael’s father had a valid point, one that Rafael himself acknowledged. They were aware that Alexi was merely using Minerva as a means to advance his career. If he lost his supposed beloved career now, he would likely cling even tighter to Minerva, seeing her as his only lifeline.
But Rafael was resolute in ensuring that Alexi faced the consequences for using his sister while coveting his woman. He firmly believed in holding people accountable for their actions; there were no free lunches in this world, and Alexi needed to understand his place. Rafael was determined to make sure Alexi paid for his audacity and learned a valuable lesson.
“Dad, this is a golden opportunity to detach Minerva from that scoundrel and send her abroad to broaden her horizons. We’ve sheltered her too much, and it’s led to her being hurt because of her naivety and arrogance. I plan to send her overseas to study and experience the realities of life, where she’ll learn the meaning of responsibility and hard work.” Rafael explained, inspired by Hera’s own determination and work ethic when he learned of her efforts to support herself and her undeserving ex-boyfriend while she was studying and working part-time jobs all at the same time.
He respected Hera, though he wished her reasons for working so hard weren’t misguided. Yet, inspired by her example, he saw sending Minerva abroad as the ideal punishment and a valuable lesson for his sister, who seemed to understand only spending money and behaving like a child.
Hera was right, Minerva is immature and not everyone would be able to tolerate her actions and immaturity which would sooner or later be a problem and be the reason for her demise. Because now, he believed that not at all times would he be able to protect his sister and she needed to learn how to be decerning and how to protect herself to avoid this matter.
He wasn’t tired of pampering his only sister and protecting her, but Rafael realized that if Minerva never left her comfortable nest, she wouldn’t mature or experience the fulfillment of pursuing dreams and achieving goals through her own efforts.
If that happens, what would Minerva impart to her future children? What bargaining chip would she have with her husband and his family? How would her husband treat her when love faded and resentment grew over her actions? Rafael also realized that outer beauty can only go so far; knowledge, wisdom, and inner beauty hold far greater value. Perhaps through these experiences, Minerva might discover her true desires and find genuine love that transcends superficialities.
“If you do that, your sister will hate you for sending her overseas and may feel abandoned when she needs you the most. Can you handle that?” Rafael’s father interrupted his thoughts with this crucial question.
“Dad, I’m prepared to take on that role. I can handle being seen as the bad guy if it means guiding my sister onto the right path, something we should have done a long time ago. It’s my responsibility as her older brother, and I realize I’ve neglected these details to avoid getting caught up in this messy drama for my own peace of mind. I’m partly to blame for this,” Rafael said solemnly, with sincerity and conviction.
Rafael’s father was beyond shocked to hear his son speak this way. Rafael, known for his arrogance and pride, had never been one to easily admit mistakes or doubt himself.
After a moment of shock, Rafael’s father erupted into laughter, his heart swelling with pride and genuine happiness to hear his son’s admission. It was a concern he had long held for his children; he and his wife knew they had pampered and sheltered them, inadvertently shaping their temperaments and attitudes to the way it turned out now. Yet, they never regretted it, as it was their way of expressing love and protection.
But now, they realized how mistaken they had been, and witnessing the change in his son stirred deep emotions. Rafael’s father felt a sense of relief and satisfaction, knowing that even after he passed away, he wouldn’t need to worry about his children’s well-being. Beyond their wealth, they would grow tremendously in many aspects, which assured him that they will be well-equipped to face life’s challenges.
“You’ve grown so much, son,” Rafael’s father said weakly, trying to contain his tears of joy. “This is the best gift I could ever receive.” He nodded repeatedly, adding quietly to himself once he realized Rafael couldn’t see. “Alright, since my young boy has grown into a mature and responsible young man, I will leave your sister’s education to you. This time, I won’t interfere with your plans, but please ensure her safety.”
