Chapter 299: Chapter 299 Logan’s Looking Troubled
“I will always protect my sister, Dad, even from herself,” Rafael solemnly added. His father exhaled heavily, understanding the gravity of Rafael’s words. If Minerva didn’t get what she wanted, she might resort to using her life as a bargaining chip.
“Dad, I could always protect her and will not let her die, but if she really tried suicide, I will still try to steal her life away from the grim reapers and bring her back no matter how much she tried. And I will let her understand what she needs to learn.” Rafael said seriously. His words carried an ominous weight, but they were spoken with truth. His father felt a lump in his throat at Rafael’s resolve, praying silently that it would never come to that.
But he would be underestimating his own daughter’s determination to defy him and get what she wanted. If Rafael stuck to his word and followed through, it meant Minerva was setting herself up for hardship and would have to learn the hard way. If she pushed things to extremes, Rafael would respond in kind, showing her the extent of his resolve to stop her destructive behavior and he would show how much of a bad guy he could be so his sister could stop her game and antics.
Now that Rafael had a solid agreement with his father, his father would take on the task of convincing his wife not to get soft and help their daughter when Minerva started facing the harsh realities of life. To ensure the best results, Rafael’s father decided to prolong their vacation and travel around the world, celebrating their hard work and the upbringing of their two wonderful children.
By doing this, Rafael’s father could keep his wife unaware of the brewing trouble for their daughter and maintain her detachment from the inside information. The only downside would be that Rafael would have to redouble his efforts, as he would now be responsible for running his father’s company as well.
“Son, don’t fret about it,” his father laughed happily, as if he’d just stolen a lollipop from a child and was watching him cry. “After all, you’ll be inheriting my company and assets in a few years. Consider this your interim.” He laughed even louder before hanging up the call, not waiting for Rafael’s reply. He knew his son would only throw a tantrum after being blindsided by his own father.
Rafael felt like his father had planned this all along to unload his responsibilities and travel around with his wife like a newlywed couple. Little did he know, he was spot on. At that very moment, his father was laughing happily, skipping on his feet as he walked to join his wife, who wasn’t actually that oblivious to what was happening.
Except, she had helped her husband set up their son, Rafael, to take a stand. They had been planning for Rafael to discipline Minerva, knowing she didn’t fear her parents and treated them like harmless puppies. But her brother? He was like a big Doberman who could bite her anytime he lost his temper.
The husband and wife had been playing their cards well from the beginning, pretending to go along with their children’s wishes while secretly orchestrating events. They played the good cop, leaving Rafael to be the bad cop. And what better solution could there be than this?
Now, the couple discussed where to go next. They had been so busy with the company and home that they hadn’t had a chance to relax before, which is why they were so excited to travel. Rafael had already started suspecting something due to how quickly his father agreed, but he had more pressing problems to solve, so he set aside his concerns about his parents.
He then returned to the company to start arranging things and managing his schedule. While Rafael was working tirelessly all night long, Hera was busy taking all her classes seriously, diligently taking notes on how to improve her skills, and treating each criticism as an opportunity to grow. She completely left Minerva’s matter in Rafael’s hands.
Hera was also pleased that no one stayed up with her to observe how she took her classes or came back to pick her up. All the male leads, including Leo, were busy playing their petty games against each other, sending metaphorical nukes into each other’s workplaces to keep themselves grounded in their companies, ensuring no one could bother Hera.
It seemed these petty games would drag on for a while before they realized that no one was truly benefiting from them and they were merely doubling their workloads while making each other’s lives harder. They say that only through suffering does one grow closer, and perhaps, in time, this shared self-made struggle might help them see eye to eye and mature a little when they finally face each other.
“Senior? You’re still here at this hour?” Logan’s hesitant voice came from behind Hera, making her jump slightly.
“Yeah, I’m working on some skill improvement classes. And you?” Hera glanced at her wristwatch, noting it was already 10:45 PM. She saw that they were both heading out from opposite sides of the building. “Are you just leaving now?” She asked, noticing that Logan’s complexion seemed off.
“Yeah,” Logan croaked, his voice trembling slightly. At that moment, Hera could tell something was definitely wrong with him.
“Is something wrong?” Hera asked, her gaze fixed on Logan’s troubled expression. As his senior and the one who brought him into the company, she felt a responsibility to look after him. If he was facing any issues, she wanted to help or at least listen to his concerns. After all, everything was new to him, and with his somewhat timid nature, he seemed particularly vulnerable.
Additionally, with Logan’s new assistant—who should have been accompanying him—nowhere in sight, Hera’s concern deepened. “I’m all ears,” she said softly but with a reassuring confidence. “If you’re facing any troubles, feel free to share them with me.”
