Hera’s phone was buzzing with notifications nonstop, jolting her awake. As she groggily opened her eyes, her phone rang. Normally, she wasn’t a grumpy morning person, but today she felt like making an exception.
The sun had yet to rise, and it was far too early for her to be awake. Her joints ached, and she felt on the verge of a fever. Reluctantly, she answered the call.
“Hello?” Her voice was still raspy, and her throat was dry. Groggily, she stepped out of bed to get some water, thankful for the pitcher always kept on her coffee table.
“Babe, it’s me!!!” Athena’s exasperated voice came from the other side.
“What’s wrong?” Hera asked as she poured herself a glass of water.
“The audacity!!! Alexi posted a statement on his official account claiming you two broke up before he started dating Minerva. He says you can’t leave him alone and even barged into your old shared apartment to try to get back together with him. And now, because Minerva’s brother is causing trouble in their relationship, he’s accusing you of taking the chance to seduce him back, saying he caved in a moment of weakness.” Athena summarized the entire post, which spanned several pages.
Hera couldn’t help but be amused by Athena’s angry voice and flaring nostrils. Despite the situation, Hera found it hard to be angry anymore. She had already given everything she could for Alexi, trying to build a life with him, but he was the one who had disappointed her. Besides, Athena was already furious on her behalf. Hera suspected that Athena hadn’t slept, as the evidence had been slowly released the previous night by various trusted gossip bloggers.
Alexi’s reply was exactly what Hera expected. Whether it was Alexi himself or his team who wrote that post didn’t matter; it was their last desperate struggle. Hera was ready to take a step forward into her new beginning, free from the shadow of her past with Alexi.
She also trusted her company to release the evidence: Alexi’s call recordings after the breakup, his persistent text messages even after she made it clear she didn’t want to get back together, and the accusatory and derogatory names he called her when she didn’t comply with his wishes. This included messages from his mother and sister, full of demeaning words. Most importantly, there were videos documenting Minerva’s misdeeds targeting Hera.
Just like how Minerva worked with the previous horse race champion to plot against Hera, there was a video showing Minerva going to the stable to poison Diamond. Initially, when the previous champion saw her and stopped her, the poison was still in her hands, If she really was reported and the poison was sent into the lab, she’d have no way out, so Minerva was scared she’d be reported and was already thinking of various excuses to get away with it. However, the previous champion recruited her to work together, as it seemed they had the same enemy.
Minerva provided the spiked horsewhip to the previous champion. When he dropped it on the race track, Hera’s team filmed the entire process. The previous champion attempted to whip Diamond in the rear, but Hera intercepted just in time, causing the whip to slip from his hands and fall. Hera’s team then approached the whip to capture video evidence of the spikes, which was later used to bring the previous champion to justice.
Hera had kept this evidence locked up in a safe, planning to use it against Minerva at the most crucial time. This wasn’t all; she also sent her people to gather proof that Minerva had pulled strings to blacklist Hera from working in various industries, including restaurant chains, odd jobs, clubs, and more. Hera was effectively banned from all industries. Additionally, Hera had evidence of Minerva slandering her online and fanning the flames to make the situation worse, constantly undermining her.
Minerva even tried to get Hera expelled from college by falsely accusing her of cheating and bribing professors for better grades. Her tactics didn’t stop there; they became increasingly outrageous. Minerva also incited her anti-fans to attack Hera, using sulfuric acid to disfigure her. ‘Yes, it was Minerva behind the scenes orchestrating these attacks and the death threats I’ve been receiving from Alexi’s fanatical supporters.’
In retaliation, Hera had her team investigate every action of both Minerva and Alexi. What they uncovered about Minerva was far darker than she had anticipated. Describing Minerva as merely devious would be an understatement; she proved to be nothing short of a devil in disguise.
Minerva had targeted several lesser-known female celebrities who had managed to get close to Alexi, even though he paid them little attention. Minerva saw this as a challenge to claim her man and dispatched a team to deal with them. Contrary to what one might expect, Minerva’s team didn’t merely intimidate these women; their actions were far more sinister.
The women were kidnapped, subjected to severe abuse, and raped before enduring prolonged torture. Once they were dead, their bodies were fed to sharks or crocodiles to erase all evidence of their suffering. Some were sold to human traffickers, while others ended up in a hidden underground red-light district known only to a select few.
These heinous crimes have reached the division police office as a major case. All evidence gathered by the police was securely stored in a secret vault and meticulously erased from external records to prevent the criminals from realizing that law enforcement was closing in on them. What began as reports of a few missing women has now escalated to high-profile celebrities disappearing, leading investigators to suspect a close connection between the cases.
Some secret agents have already infiltrated the underground red-light district, while others have penetrated the criminal network itself. Hera was baffled by how Minerva managed to co-opt such powerful connections and manipulate them to her advantage. What troubled Hera the most was the realization that Minerva had become something far worse than she ever expected. Instead of the redeemable second female lead who might recognize her flaws and change for the better, Minerva had morphed into a true villainess, embodying malevolence and ruthlessness.
Was it because of Alexi? Did Minerva’s inability to fully capture Alexi’s heart and love drive her to become sinister or paranoid? In the end, it didn’t matter. What mattered now was Hera’s determination to deal with Minerva decisively.
When she asked Rafael not to interfere earlier, it was because she wanted him to stay out of this matter. Her intent in asking him to handle Minerva was to give Rafael the opportunity to turn his sister over to the police, ensuring justice for her victims. This would be Rafael’s final test—she would see if she could truly challenge his core beliefs and his protectiveness over his sister.
Initially, Hera had planned to leave Minerva to Rafael, letting him handle the situation. However, after receiving a crucial investigation report last night detailing Minerva’s wrongdoings, she was left baffled. Despite her dislike for Minerva, she knew that these actions didn’t align with Minerva’s character as she understood it, though the evidence was undeniably conclusive.
